Until recently I had a coin from one of the older bundles I wanted to get rid of which reached some 6 bucks and something, so kept checking the site from time to time to see if there was anything to spend the damn thing on.

It's an f in romanization, which associates it better with free. It also has no other intuitive meanings that I'm aware of, so no confusion to be had.

Personally, I'd never make the association you just mentioned, while the Christian Cross (both Greek and Latin variants) are the representative symbols of Christianity, same as the Star of David is for Judaism. Understandably, the cross is only used on Christian tombstones..

Either way, 'Dead and buried' doesn't give any more useful an association, so the distinction is moot.

There's also ⓪ if you're aiming to emphasize 0 CV. The null symbol ∅ is always intuitive for that effect, as well.
Also suitable are ⦸, ⚠, and ❌/ ☒, though ☢, ☹, ☠,and 💔 are more amusing approaches. :P

It really doesn't resemble a tombstone, even just compared to usual Christian Cross tombstone designs (which are thicker in form and generally flare at the bottom). But regardless of such interpretations, its still a pretty awkward utilization of the iconography, given its primary usage and meaning [in being the primary symbol of Christianity for just shy of the past two millenia].

Given how many more universally recognizable and appropriate unicode symbols are available, there's just no reason to force an unusual interpretation on a different symbol for it- especially not one relying on a niche utilization of the symbol that nevertheless is still based on its primary meaning [in that Christian tombstones utilize the cross to represent the devoutness of the Christian buried beneath it]. Moreover, even by that interpretation, it's still based within a religiocentric viewpoint, and thus needlessly snubs those following other belief systems by its inclusion. :X

I have no preference for what symbol is used, I'm just emphatic that it should be located next to the name in parentheses, where you can immediately see that the game was free without scanning further (rather than in the bundle column where some others place it, which is distracting, at least to me).

And you're right, it's really only necessary when you have bundles with lots of games, and more than a few have been free.
