Oh well, I was going to buy the bundle but since it is $25 I think i'll skip it. I think they would have gotten a lot more donations if they treated it like a normal Humble Bundle (meaning you need to beat the average, not a set amount). Roll on Tuesday I guess.

Wow 25 dollars? 5 for a hat? Seriously? Well...I usually pay around 5-8 for a bundle full of games so I think I will pass, this is truly a low for this site....I was pretty much alright with everything up to this point, even with the other complaints Humble has been receiving lately here by people, none of it bothered me but really I can get these games for cheaper when sales hit...

Why is this a low? This seems to be a perception-thing. In fact the Dairy Drive is even more noble than most of their bundles (except maybe the Mojams). Neither the developers, Yogscast nor the Humble crew seem to earn any money with it (there is no developer/humble tip), so there isn't anything to complain about. It is called "Yogscast's Dwarven Dairy Drive" - it has not even "Humble" or "Bundle" in its name.
It is just a charity-event with a bonus from generous people for generous people.

First off its on a site named HumbleBundle, lets get that straight of the bat, so in fact it should go by its standards that it has set the last couple years, maybe it should be on a different site altogether.

Second of sure its a perception thing but you might have seen by the many relies in this thread that many of us feel like this is sorta a joke, I am all for donation sites, but usually there is a lower bracket to well.....get more money, truth is many of us would love to donate and get a couple games but many of us don't have 25 dollars to throw on a bundle in which we may want/like 1 or 2 games that have been cheaper on sale.

Main point, they would make more lowering the price, and I still stand by the 5 dollar TF2 item almost feeling like a slap in the face...seriously just could have put the first sonic racer there instead....

the charity event would have happened no matter if humble bundle ever existed.the yogscast thought it would be nice to give something back to the most generous donators.why do you feel they owe you anything.where does this come from?it's not even a humble bundle, they are simply offering a platform.

well, saying things like "and I still stand by the 5 dollar TF2 item almost feeling like a slap in the face" and "I was pretty much alright with everything up to this point" sounds kinda like you felt a tiny bit insulted while stating that your main concern was their business model not being efficient enough.perspective,i assume

the intention of creating this bundle was a service to the fans/donators of the yogscast livestream,so there is no need to make it more attractive as people are donating tons of money anyway.
but you are halfway right with your main point further below.it WOULD be a shitty humble bundle if it was a normal humble bundle that offers keys as their main method to raise money.
most of the cashflow is generated by the livestream in this case, not the keys

I wasn't so much offended as annoyed by the 5 dollar bracket basically being what I would sum up as a joke, thats just an opinion though, maybe some love this item stuff? Seems like it.

Pretty much, just don't know why it wasn't done through other means, to most it would look like a really crappy HumbleBundle.

First off: It is hosted by a site named HumbleBundle as is the HumbleStore, which at this very moment sells Chivalry for 24,99$ (without even a TF2 hat). So yeah, it totally goes against the standards, the site has set -.-
In contrast to the store this Dairy Drive at the moment isn't even linked with the www.humblebundle.com main page and you can only access it from other sites/direct input. It is even questionable, if it is the next Weekly Sale or Bundle, since it has already started and lasts 30 days.

Just calling this event a low sounds very cheap to me. I can understand that some people are disappointed, since they have seen the incomplete site and wrongly thought, they could soon get these games for some few dollars. I can also understand that you won't contribute to this event (I won't either), but that is still far away from calling it a low. Seriously, if they give you the games for contributing $300 only it is still generous, as they don't get anything in return. They don't even get the prototyping feedback like in the Amnesia Fortnight event and they also don't promote their upcoming sequels or their gaming platform like the EA bundle.

"truth is many of us would love to donate and get ..."
Truth is, many of us don't know the meaning of the word donate. You are basically saying that the "truth is many of us would love to buy games cheap and get a strangely good conscience, since the developers will turn even this money down in advantage of some charity". Don't get me wrong: it is okay to think so for whatever reasons, but it has nothing to do with you loving to donate.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I donate money to many organizations a year without anything in return, I just think like you stated actually that "it totally goes against the standards, the site has set -.-". I also think its a bad idea because well lets face it, the lower bundles get more donations, you can make a gold plated record and sell it for tons or make 10,000,000 normal ones and make a LOT MORE.

I find it funny how I am being bombarded for sharing a view or a opinion even with the guy up there that starts his argument with "perception".

Also about "truth is many of us would love to buy games cheap and get a strangely good conscience(Really? Geez), since the developers will turn even this money down in advantage of some charity"."

Don't generalize, Unless you know me personally(Or anyone else here for that matter) and know what I do in my daily life or how I see things, I am the guy handing out extra money to homeless people on the street usually more often then not because I can see how shitty the world can be for people(Vets, down on luck, illness etc..).

Can no one read here btw? My first sentence "I usually pay around 5-8 for a bundle full of games"....

Main Point: This is shitty for a HumbleBundle. It should not be on this site at all...that is all, sorry if I came off harsh btw, not my intension.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I highly respect you for your choice to donate money to many other charity organizations.

I was only commenting your words: To "love to donate and get..." is not donating. Paying the usual 5-8 dollars on a BTA Humble Bundle just means the buyer gets the games cheap and the developers have donated some of their effort. It doesn't make anyone buying bundles at that price a bad person, as the development studios intentionally forced themselves to the deal. But unless you never play/trade/gift any of these games or pay over value the "donation" comes from the developers in the end.
And yes, I mean this in general - NOT personal! It might have come off wrong.

As I commented your main point before: The HumbleStore sells Chivalry for 25$ and only donates 10% of it. This one donates 100% and you get an additional TF2 hat next to other things if you pay 25$. That's why I just don't get why it is supposed to be a "shitty" low or even why it isn't humble.

  • Sonic was part of Sonic Franchise before @ 7.50 before on a pricing mistake. OR, I can get it for 2.25$ in RU Store when it was on 75% sale before.
  • Chivalry can be bought for 3.33$ in RU store
  • 1$
  • 1$
  • Fucking F2P
  • Can be bought for 1.9$ in RU store when it was on 75% sale.

5 dollar for a freakin non tradable tf2 item? Seems legit..
anyway jokes aside, 25 buck IS a bit too much. Not because of greediness but because simply one cant always afford to pay over the averafe for a bundle of games. We can go around rambling about how one could afford it if they wanted to, that simply doesnt change this fact. Not everybody earn as much.
Also maybe if the promo wasnt instantly up and running, maybe they shouldnt even let people buy it before the actual event, hm? I think this might have been waay easier for everyone.
I only bought the 1 dollar bundle, i wont ask my money back but im still quite not satisfied with this offer. Oh well, unless the upcoming bundles will be better , this money will stay in my wallet

I see in comments that some people are saying that this is a bad deal for the games (that you could get them for the same/less cost on other places) and that this is not very humble and so on..

Here's my 2 cents on this.

This is NOT a Humble Bundle (or weekly for that matter) This is a Yogscast charity drive PRESENTED by Humble Bundle. Humble Bundle does not get any money from this at all.

The way I interprets "presented by" in this case is that Humble Bundle offers Yogscast a webpage and a platform to host this charity drive on. HB have a good platform for handling keys and the webpage is rather well known!

Humble Bundle most likely also helped the Yogscast team to reach out to devs/pubs about participating in this charity drive. The devs/pubs don't get a penny out of this (unless you end up buying dlcs and whatnot) . Sure it's probably a pr-thing, but it's a pr thing for a good cause!

As for the fixed tier at $25.. I'm not going to bring up if that is a "reasonable" amount or not for this bundle of games as I don't really see this as a "normal" game bundle, and therefore in my opinion it doesn't matter if you can grab all these games for, let's say $5 dollars elsewhere or that some of the games might have been in some other bundle.
I see this as a charity drive - and like with most charities I'm not expecting to get anything in return for my donation. Sometimes I do get a "thank you for your donation" sms/mail/letter when I have donated money to some charities or shelters but I'm not really excepting that. In many ways I don't wish to get anything back myself for my donation since that actually takes money away from the cause of the charity!

In this particular charity drive the Yogscast team and the developers/publishers have added a sweet bonus for the ones who have the financial resources to donate over $25, as a "thank you for your donation" and I can understand why they choose to only give the bonuses out for donations over a certain amount.

If you're looking for some crazy cheap games while supporting developers, charity (and HB) just wait for the next bundle or weekly sale.

IMO Yogscast made a mistake here, by asking 25$ for the games they made $376k in a week, and look at the Jumbo bundle they made in 4 days $1,9 million.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

you're missing the point. yogscast doesnt target the humblebundlers who are mostly cheap people. they are actually doing the other way around, humblebundle reaching out to the people who frequent yogscast.

consider this:
yogscast bundle is NOT advertised on humblebundle main site, it is pretty obvious to them that yogscast $25 asking price doesnt fit the humblebundlers.
we know about yogscast bundle NOT from advertised sites, but from tracker like epicbundle.
yogscast seems to be adding a new game every week, with 3 more weeks, i am keeping tab about what games they'll add, maybe in the end, it'll justify the $25 for me personally.

why do people keep thinking yogscast is targeting the cheap bundlers? newsflash, they're NOT -_-

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yes, i see, but still they made way less money that they could have made if the bundle was cheap. In the end it would have made more money for Yogscast to donate to charities.

maybe so, if you think that they are AFTER max income. maybe they just dont wanna devalue their games much and still make donations. i highly doubt SG will make those yogscast games to be in cv bundle list, let me know if im wrong.
