Did they even play? shows played stats on Winners pages and links to their achievements. It's useful to check if winners already own the game you're gifting them, to make sure they activate their wins, and to see how far they got in the game.

Nice idea! kelnage's script makes me slightly depressed around 80% of the times I use it, I'm not sure I'm ready for this (āēĨïđāēĨ)

Yeah, it'd be best to not check it. If you give games hoping for winner to play it, instead of just stuffing their library.

If it has cards it's gonna be idled. But number of people that play in their wins is really small.

I want to play 90% of the games that I have in my library, but not enough time. And when I got time I return to something that I played before.

When you visit a Winners page, it will show an input box in the breadcrumb area for you to add the API key. I pushed an update that should fix things. You will need to update to 0.12 for it to work.

I have mixed feelings about these kinds of things. I like kelnages script because it's a convenient way of keeping track of my own stats but I feel we shouldn't encourage peoples judgemental tendencies. I guess it's convenient for those who are into these kinds of things though :)

Love the strategically chosen game for your example picture. I really should stop waiting for it to leave early access. So many games, so little time.

i don't find it judgemental, it just tells me who's nice enough to play their wins instead of collecting +1s.

I don't know really. Even for the most diligent users, with regards to playing their wins, there will be a lot of "misses" and naturally, people feel that their gifts are more important than others. I guess it depends on the user though.

For my own use, I wanted the script because I wanted to see if a person had played one of their wins, but they had over 1,000 games in their library so it took forever to load. And they had over 500 wins on SG so using Do You Even Play, Bro? would have taken just as long. I just wanted to see if they'd played a specific win.

does script include stats about games, that i've played offline?

Permalink

Depends on the game. Some will update Steam when you go online again and some won't. Then again some won't even work correctly when you're online :P

Permalink

It will show number of achievements if you got some. But if you haven't played in online mode at all,, playtime will show 0.

Steam mostly syncs the offline data and stats, as per my experience.

I pushed an update that caches all the results and works on large giveaways with more than 25 winners.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

New update shows if they didn't activate the game or if their profile is private. Should be useful for checking to make sure winners activate their games, especially those 25+ copy giveaways.

Hi lext! Can you test with Firefox 56? I don't know if it's because they change how extensions are supported (so it could be a greasmonkey problem) but I can confirm there is an issue - https://www.steamgifts.com/go/comment/uRhJhG9

Works fine for me on Firefox 56 x64, using Tampermonkey.

Thanks for checking, it seems like it's a greasemonkey problem then. The add-on shows "legacy" and I know Mozilla changed how add-ons work recently, that probably broke greasemonkey, which hasn't been updated.

Found another use for the script: it checks winners to see if they already own the game on their Steam account. When you visit the winners page to send keys, if it doesn't say "Game appears unactivated" then that means they already own the game.

Is it possible to bring these sorts of things to SGTools?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Maybe I'm just missing something but would it be possible to modify the script so it can run from my Sent page ? I really like the idea but if I have to check every GA seperately it's not worth the trouble for me just to find out that 90% of the games I gave away ended up as +1s.

What if one of your sents is a 1,000 key giveaway? Ignore GAs with over 3 winners?

How should it display the info to you?

Should it use the sent page or the Giveaways Created page? I guess with the sent page you can easily check other people's stats.

Permalink

The multi copy question doesn't really come up for me because I don't do multi-copy GAs due to reroll / deletion problems and the crowd they attract.

Since I'm not very familiar with multi-copy GAs I'm not entierely sure about the "Ignore GAs with over 3 winners?" thing.

Edit: Oh, now I get it :D Not enough space to display more than 3 winners on the Gifts Sent page... Yeah, Ignore gibs with more than 3 winners would work fine for me.

How should it display the info to you?

I personally would prefer it to be directly on my Sent page pretty much the same way Do You Even Play, Bro? does on my Won page.

If there are multiple winners, how should it display the info?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Since I don't do multi-copies I had not thought about that yet but how about:

  • In a pop-up
  • Only display the information for single copy GAs on the Sent page and leave multi copy GAs on the Winner page as is

If there are multiple winners, how should it display the info?

Don't display it in these cases. For such giveaways the user will need to open the Winners page and use the current method. I think that's a reasonable compromise.

Thanks for the script!

Greasemonkey

OK, I just tried with greasemonkey & Firefox 52. Before adding the API it showed normally (only asking to add API key), after adding it worked fine.

I did recently have an issue with NoScript when firefox updated last, so I'm going to update 52 on my test machine to the latest and try again.

One thing to try is go to Help > Restart with addons disabled ...

  • then choose "restart in safe mode"
  • close firefox
  • start it normally, test again

Permalink

well, I can confirm it is a bug with the script, because I have the exact same issue with Firefox 56 64-bit

Only way I know to "roll-back" which isn't officially supported is to uninstall and install an old version. If you don't have a recent old version, you can browse through http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/55.0/

Looks like it's a greasemonkey problem as that add-on shows "legacy" ... I know Mozilla changed how addons work recently and that probably broke greasemonkey, which hasn't been updated. Tampermonkey works fine, and the add-on shows as compatible for Firefox 57+

I actually find it useful to show that because then you know they don't have the game already on their account.

The problem is that it looks like something is wrong every time I want to send someone the gift. I think it would make more sense to not display anything in this case, and display an opposite warning when they have the game "Note: The winner already owns the game!"

If I display nothing, how will you know the script worked? Good idea about showing a warning when they already own it. I pushed an update to change it.
