I noticed my CV had dropped a little, which I thought was really weird because I keep a tight log of all the games I've given away, what I paid for each one, and their CV. When the CV on my profile didn't match my log, I was super confused. I eventually figured out that a game that I had given away (forma.8) was $15 on the steam store when I gave it away, and it has never been in a bundle so it had full CV. However, recently its store price dropped to $10, therefore reducing my CV by $5. Normally, this wouldn't be a HUGE issue, except that it bumped me down to a contributor level of 1.99!! It means I'm missing out on all these level 2 giveaways until I can host another one of my own... :(
Personal issues aside, I do not think it is fair that someone's CV should decrease if the store price of a game decreases AFTER the giveaway was completed. (My forma.8 giveaway completed 3 weeks ago, and my CV only dropped less than a week ago).

I could care less about CV because even after I reach level 10 I will still continue to give away games however does that mean I shame people who do care about CV? No because they are giving away stuff they don't have to give away so if CV matters to them that is their right as a giveaway creator and as a person really to have that opinion :D <3

Its just numbers. I would say about 60-70% of my giveaways I didn't pay full price and most were a hefty discount with bundles.

A big example of mine is the newest Batman. I gave it away pretty close to the second release and it was worth 100P because I gave away the deluxe edition. Now its worth about 40-50P. That loss of $50 CV does not equal the happiness it brought to the winners. Hell a lot of my unbundled giveaways get no CV... Quantum Break, Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition, INSIDE, Seasons after Fall, Hollow Knight and Grand Theft Auto V got no CV. So count your lucky stars you only lost $5.

I give away games for joy, not 0.01 CV. My advice is if you don't want to miss out on level 2 giveaways then make a buffer for the level. So try to get to at least 2.20.

It is fair because it happens to all users. Some more than others. A lot of AAA games go down in value so I'll be dropping level at some point. I don't care because thats not the reason I give. When you get to this level, you have pretty much gathered you are not leeching and you don't have anything better to spend your money on.

Its fair because it affect everyone, not only you.

Cmon guys, i totally agree with the OP. People that gives non bundled games other than buying one for himself are kind enough and should be rewarded instead of stripping them from their current level by dropping cv according to updated lower prices etc. They are the reason someone can actually win a unbundled / wishlisted AAA game without paying anything.

Yea, I'm with you. Personally I'm okay with the "reduced value" retroactively to the date a game was bundled. If you gave away a game before it was bundled the CV wouldn't be reduced (at least that's what I am assuming).
The retroactive change on the steam market price though hurts the chances for unbundled games to be given away I guess. If you'd buy an triple A title for the full price, give it away and you'll find out 5 months later that you dropped a level because the retail price decreased, well that's hard to handle for the giver. I mean sure, people a giving away games because they like giving away games, but why would you buy something that may decrease your cv later - you could instead just spam those 5P giveaways.

Precisely, although some people wouldn't care about this but others do. But generally i don't think those who give AAA at full price don't want to see their cv drops when the game gets discounted later on.
