Ukrainian Troops May Be Massing For Their Fourth Counteroffensive. Russian Artillery Is Already Trying To Stop Them.

Russian and Ukrainian forces recently swapped artillery around Hulyaipole and Polohy in southern Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia Oblast, 65 miles northeast of Russian-occupied Melitopol.
Artillery-on-artillery “counterbattery” battles aren’t uncommon as Russia’s wider war on Ukraine grinds into its 10th month.
What’s special about the Dec. 9 artillery duel is what reportedly instigated it. According to Russian sources, the Ukrainian army is massing mechanized forces around Hulyaipole.
If that’s true, it could be a sign that Ukraine’s fourth counteroffensive might be imminent, despite the onset of winter. This widely-anticipated attack—the Zaporizhzhia left hook—would aim to liberate much of southern Ukraine and push Ukrainian troops all the way to the narrow neck of land connecting mainland Ukraine to the Crimean Peninsula, which Russian forces seized in 2014.

Riots to break out in Mariupol, says local official
Mariupol is on the verge of riots amid anger among residents over a lack of heating in homes and leaking roofs, according to a local official.
Russia claimed full control of the city in May after defeating the last bastion of resistance at the Azovstal steel plant.

Russian strikes on critical infrastructure in Ukraine have put the physical and mental health of "almost every child" in the country "at desperate risk," UNICEF warned Wednesday.

Russian morgues overflowing after Himars strikes in Melitopol
Morgues have become so overrun in the occupied city of Melitopol after Ukrainian missile strikes that Russians are being forced to send corpses 200 miles away to Crimea.
As many as 200 Russian troops were killed or wounded when a salvo of Ukrainian Himars missiles struck a makeshift Russian barracks in the city on Saturday evening, Ukrainian officials claimed. 
Ivan Fedorov, the city's exiled mayor, said the strike had overwhelmed the city's hospitals, with casualties being ferried to Crimea.
A spokesman for the Ukrainian armed forces said: "Due to the overflow of medical institutions and morgues in the city of Melitopol, the Russian invaders are transporting corpses and evacuating wounded servicemen to the temporarily occupied Crimea.
