Is the Dungeon Defenders brand still Trendy in 2022?

View Results
[Tier 1] I can't afford more than a dollar for the protection of my dungeon.
[BTA] It's pointless without all that DLC, no?
[Tier 3] Can't mobilize the extra tenner at the moment.
[Tier 4] I want it all, I want it now.
[Expensive] A ten years old game last bundled six years ago? Really? And paying $10 more for a $15 full price game? It even has a 40% Steam Store bundle discount!
[Meh games] I didn't like Dungeon Defenders in 2011, I won't like it in 2022. Go away.
[Complaint] They could at least have found some keys for Dungeon Defenders Eternity to add to this.
[Philosoraptor] Is this really a bundle? I've seen Humble Store sales that are more like one.

Lowest I saw 10,33 Euro:

In my opinion not tempting bundle at all. Very few buyers so far and price was set very high (and i think it was 32 not 16 bundles on start)..
Also it surprises me that BTA price did not lowered so far, but it still can :)

One of the worst bundles in terms of pricing. Tier 1 is okay. But the complete collection in tier 2 is already more expensive than the steam price during a sale. Tier 3 might be worth it for hardcore fans, but pretty sure these fans already have the old game and don't even care about the mediocre Awakened. Then they want 9€ extra for Going Rogue a game that shouldn't even exist in the first place. Would pay like 8€ max for all the games+dlc but even with that price most people wouldn't buy it.

haven't thought about dungeon defenders in a long time, might be fun for my kids to have it too! i don't seem to have an extra key lying around, so i'll keep an eye on the bta price to see if it goes low enough to get the dlc too

Get them to play DD2, it is free to play, you will end up saving money here. If you decide to buy any of the tiers, you should aim for tier 1 or tier 3, tier 1 for being obvious and cheap and will net them at least a hundred hours of gametime if they enjoy these kind of games, tier 3 because it offers the best value for money spent and will offer enough content for the first game to clock 1k hours, if not more. Tier 2 is very bad, tier 4 is almost as bad as tier 2 but not worth investing into.

Tier 3 is the one people should aim for, if they want dd1 with dlcs, tier 2 is a rip off. Tier 4 is also a rip off.

DD1 is essentially the best dungeon defenders they ever made. DD2 is free to play with some pay to win elements but i think you can get most things for free if i am not mistaking, requires grind. DD2 is more... lightweight. Seems more noob friendly too. First game, with the dlcs included, can be extremelly challenging to play, but ends up being fun along the way, specially if you get someone to play with, as later missions can get too hard for solo builders to make everything on their own.

EDIT: Dungeon defenders eternity was removed from steam store, the company behind these games is shady. If anyone wants to play any of these games, i highly recommend the first one and the dlcs, which was their prime. Beyond that, DD2 might be worth checking since its free but i personally consider it a downgrade, but not as bad as the other games. DDE is a downgraded DD1 with some new things added to it, game was removed though, it was a cash grab attempt. DDA is supposedly what DDE should have been but still does not match the first game. DD2 was originally pay to play, not free to play, they converted people that bought the game with gem packs and few other benefits like titles/badges/skins.
Rogue is a different game and it looks bad...
DD1 received community updates for free until 2019, new maps, items, etc... Game was last updated in july 2021, which received a quality of life update. It almost feels like DD1 is still the most active out of all the DD games they have released, so uh... yeah. A game from 2011 is still considered the best and most likely the most popular out of the bunch. As seen here: https://steamcharts.com/search/?q=dungeon+defenders+

Only reason DD2 beats in player numbers is the fact it is free to play, otherwise, it would be dead like Eternity/Awakened/Rogue.

Found a nice, negative review, which convinced me not to touch this game at all. I don't mind some grind here and there, but it's generally a chore in my opinion. Buying a game that requires hundreds of hours of it is just insanity - Vaas style, since you keep doing the same thing over and over again expecting to get different result :p. Not to mention you need dlcs for the 1st game to be able to finish it at all, due to dlc based main game difficulty spike.
Thanks, but no thanks.

This review means nothing. Game suffers from people using cheat engines to get hacked gear, this gear is transfered to other players. Both occasions can get you banned, or used to. Don't think hacked gear can get you banned that easily anymore probably because game lacks moderation, so the ban this user got, was most likely derived from using a cheat engine to modify gear.

Well, it is a tower defence game with a loot aspect to it... Of course it will require grinding and time investment, tower defence and looting usually implies time investment in games unless you play the game like a casual player and move on. Doing the grind on your own can be boring as hell, if you find a group to play with, you can enjoy the game just fine. Don't really need to aim for best gear stats.

Game offers multiple difficulty settings, the higher difficulties are for the hardcore players wishing to put time into the game. You can play the game just fine in base game, though the dlc will expand the experience big time. Going for 1k hours in this game, means you are willing to go for harder difficulty settings. Higher difficulty settings, simply means enemies will haver higher multipliers for everything, sometimes reach the point where they can 1 hit kill anything, so your build has to be near perfect to last as long as possible.

Well, I haven't played a game quite like it, so naturally I decided to seek knowledge in reviews. What you see as matter of course, to me is yet an uncharted gaming experience. And what better reviews than negative ones, to see if game fails in some aspect I happen to dislike myself?

However, maybe my previous comment doesn't say enough about my perspective here: I have had the misfortune of playing an Idle Monster TD - idle tower defence game, and I lost a lot of time to it due to one simple reason - I like to 100% things. And I hated that game.
So my tendency to 100% things, getting burned on (maybe) similar game, not being a pointless grind enjoyer, and getting to find out about game becoming a totally different thing than advertised with addition of dlcs (which would cost me more than just base game at tier 1) - all are taken into my considerations of this type of game.

And as you said above - game suffers from people using cheat engines. That says quite a lot about gamepley being unenjoyable - an aspect of game I've come to value a lot.

I don't deny that people can have fun with the original part of the game, or even with the whole package. But with my personal preferences listed above, I just think that it would frustrate me much more than it would be fun, and not due to skill reason.

Instead of deciding the fate of a game based on other peoples reviews, you should try it for yourself as the base game is only 1 buck. DD2 is also free to play, give that one a try if you think 1 buck is too much for you. DD1 looks different but plays better imo and is also more complex to learn the longer you play (requires fine tuning stats, knowing spawns and using DPS heroes). DD2 is more simplified in terms of gameplay and looks even more cartoonish than the first game. Of course DD2 has some improvements over the first game, like auto collect loot (i don't think they added this to the first game but i could be wrong). DD2 endgame meta is putting monk auras (monk is one of the 4 free to play characters, you can unlock others with some grind) and anti air and then go afk for the most part. DD1, every single hero has benefits in the game and can be used in specific situations in some maps. In general DD1 feels better built to use more combinations of towers while in DD2 you can do everything with just auras, a wall blocking the path and anti air...

Cheating will always be a problem in online games, people use cheat engines to modify gear stats in this game and become almost legit in terms of stats, a pro player. Or simply go full god mode and insta kill everything with auras the size of the map. I've seen cheaters farm legit gear in this game years ago, it's a stupid way of playing the game. Insta killing everything but then they are concerned with loot when their gear is modded to be broken. As for the 100% aspect you mentioned, i feel like that stuff is a waste of time and stops you from actually enjoying games. Unless the 100% comes across as "doable" while you simply explore the game and do quests/side quests. I ignore these things most of the time. If i ever aim for 100% in a game, it means the 100% can be done while doing what the game expects you to do. Like some Sony exclusives, they simply want you to get all collectables, beat the story, get all upgrades and gear and reveal all map locations. This is stuff that most people that enjoy the game, will end up doing, and will get rewarded with 100%. Then extra stuff gets added on top, like newgame+ or harder difficulties, if people want to give it another run.

The review you mentioned, it's not really 100% fair. Person starts out instantly with "No, I would not recommend this game to anyone, for any reason. ". Having clocked nearly 1k hours, it is as if the game is really that bad that there is no good stuff to it. When someone makes a review and starts like that, i wouldn't take the review for granted. It sounds like someone that got butthurt at some point due to lack of progression or simply got kicked too many times by open lobbies (yes this was an issue at times, people hosting open lobbies on hard maps to troll players into joining and getting kicked). Game is expected to get too hard, yes. The more DLCs added to the game, the harder it got and obviously the harder it became for late joiners to keep up with the trend. Back then some people carried others so they could get some upgrades, but yeah, not everyone would be willing to carry 1 or 2 players. The base game on its own is very enjoyable for what it offers, the DLC is the extras if you want to continue your journey, but it will ramp up difficulty more and more. You can still do new content on lower difficulties to get used to it. Playing insane or nightmare means, you will be having a harder time handling things in the game.

The perspective of "too much dlc makes it costly", don't think that applies here, considering the amount of things it offers in return for the current price tag. I had to pay full price of every single dlc for this game, along with the game at full price. I remember thinking to myself back then "this is too many DLC releases for this game", but i kept buying, they weren't really expensive as they came in low values and from time to time, not all at once.

Thank you for answering my questions with your post:
• Does the Ultimate Collection from HB contain the base game? (Yes)
• Are there any region locks on the items in the bundle? (No)
