(Resolved) Question about private giveaway rules.

My apologies for using an off-topic thread to get a quick response, but I didn't want to add another ticket to the official pile and the matter isn't urgent.
(I'll delete this if in breach of rules)

I have a text document with a small number of keys inside it, of duplicate keys for games I already owned, or bundled items I wasn't interested in. But over time, with all the bundles coming and going, I can't remember with absolute 100% certainty if I gave some of them away. This may seem weird given I would naturally delete each entry as I gave it away, but it has been so long that I have this creeping, nagging doubt.

Would it be within reason to create a giveaway thread, clearly noting this doubt, allowing people to enter at their own risk? I would normally be willing to drum up a fresh key in the event I was mistaken, but at this time of year my personal finances are uh... not very forgiving. I just wanted to check here (and open the poll up) just to give the idea some room to breathe, as foolish as it may end up being.

Would you be willing to enter for a pool of private forum giveaways if they were clearly marked as "not 100% sure this key has been given away"?

Yes, as I have nowhere else to spend the points, no hard feelings.
Yes, but would still blacklist the creator if the worst happens with the key.
No, I would rather keep my points for normal giveaways.
No, because I don't want to accidentally support what may become a trend.

Special rules are not more allowed. even if they agree they dont need to hold on their agreement.

I had a glance over the FAQ again but couldn't find anything on this, hence the thread. Was it in one of the update announcements?

What happens if I create a giveaway and the winner is unable to activate the gift in their region?

If you setup the giveaway with the appropriate region restrictions, and the winner was outside of those regions due to inaccurate information they provided, then you can request a new winner for the giveaway. If the giveaway did not have the correct region restrictions assigned to it, then one of three options are available.
    You can acquire a replacement gift or key for the same game, which the winner is able to activate in their region.
    You can accept the giveaway as being "Not Received" by the winner.
    You can submit a ticket to have the giveaway deleted. In order for us to delete the giveaway, the winner will need to post a comment on the giveaway saying they agree to have it removed.

This is not exactly what you asking for, but kinda the same thing at the end --> a key that can't be redeemed

You need to either make them group giveaways with group rules, drop them in some thread for bots to steal or bet on the good will of the winners to agree to deletion.

It's pretty tricky. I wouldn't mind just giving the keys but due to ninjas, if I take any anti-bot measures you can bet at least half of them will be ninja'd and a lot of people would jump through the hoops only to get disappointed.

The best would be to make a steamgroup and have people join it and then tell there is a chance of the key not working if you join the group you accept these terms and are willing to delete the giveaway.

Though the extra step of joining a group may burn a little more if the key was already used...
I think I'll just make an anti-bot giveaway and mark any ninja'd keys as people report them.

I can't answer for an official support member, but as far as I can remember, you can do so but it will be a request to the giveaway winners, and you can't enforce it as a "rule" so to speak. In other words, you can ask users who enter your giveaways to agree on deletion of the giveaway etc if the key is bad, but it will be as a courtesy, not as an enforced requirements for entering.

Yeah, my memory is fuzzy on the matter but I do recall something about private/group giveaways, which is why I was hoping for official word. I'd be happy to throw up some token puzzle to get to the keys but I'd still expect ninjas, which nobody likes.

Rules are rules if the winner doesn't agree to delete, you HAVE to give him a working key.

However, there is a private group, ninja retreat https://steamcommunity.com/groups/NinjaRetreat that you have to agree to deletion.

I don't think that is the correct group, there is only 1 member...
And remember, even there people can just not agree for a deletion, sure they get kicked from the group but they can still do it.

Uh? I am reading 219 members (I only wrote ninja at the beginning) . You are right, the winner doesn't have to agree if he doesn't mind being kicked out . Still, better than nothing.

Yes, you changed the link after my reply, the one I saw before was just called Ninja indeed and had 1 member.
But just stating that it's still not a 100% chance someone accept it, because in the end nobody has to, but that group is the savest place for it like you said because outside you have a 50% chance and in the group it's a much much higher chance.
