Although it's graphical in nature, this is probably the only real text-based adventure I'll be giving away in the nostalgia bumps. Douglas Adams and his development team definitely tried something new here with their text parser, but me in my mid teens still couldn't quite fathom what to do for most of this game. I haven't tried to re-play it yet, but hopefully I'll have better luck a second time around. If you can get past the awkwardness of the text based interface, there's definitely some genuine Douglas Adams humor in here, something I was very happy about when I first played this game, having only recently been introduced to the Hitchhiker's Guide trilogy and quickly reading through its entirety.
I've never actually read Terry Jones's novel adaptation (released at the same time as the game), partially for fear of game spoilers, and partially because my young brain even then assumed it wouldn't be as good if Adams didn't write it. (Sorry Terry!)
[edit]
Whilst distracting myself from writing The Cake Factory adventure for small bits at a time, I've read that Terry Jones was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia a few years ago and now has great difficulty in forming words. Incredibly unfortunate for a man of his talents. It's interesting to read about the disease though, and how he's soldiering on with it, in his own way.

My first text adventure game was Pirate Cove for the Commodore Vic-20. I still haven't beaten it, but got farther than ever before a few years ago.

I had no idea that Terry Jones was ill. That's so sad. :(
When I subscribed to a computer magazine back in the day there were four welcome presents you could select from and this was the one that I picked (it was Douglas Adams; it had to be great). I so wanted to love it but I just couldn't get into it....

Yes, I'm glad that in all other respects he seems to be doing okay, but for a man of words like him to get hit with FTD... yeah, definitely sad.
And now you've got me curious what the other welcome gifts might have been. Hopefully they don't make you regret the decision too much.

lol, congrats on the win -- great to have you definitely win something after being the first person to get through the factory! :)

haha, this is rather unexpected! ...thanks for the game, this should definitely be fun... (and it's themed as well, since there are the H2G2 books which were highly suspicious to me while I was searching for the thief)
