Bruteforced the 8 options too (just because I was too lazy to check if it was an I or an L since there was a limited number of possibilities) - I was worried that the column headers could mean something (look like a Braille character) and would have needed to be taken into account...

How did you bruteforce it? By looking at the number of positions you had to move around?

By counting offset to the starting point at each step and assuming that you can't move outside of the grid.
