Le Puy-en-Velay

Rest Day 2 - Monday, July 17th

< Stage 15 - Stage 16 >

No Stage

The second rest day, it's time to look at the riders' positions in the general qualification and for the team leaders to come up with a masterplan to get their rider to Paris in the yellow. We'll also know today who predicted the correct Red Lantern rider on the first rest day.

Rest Day Prediction Special

Obviously no rider is going to win today so we are doing something else. Predict which rider will have the Lanterne Rouge (Red Lantern) at the end of the Tour, after the last stage (Sunday, July 23rd).

Please note that only predictions sent in before the official start of tomorrow's stage (Tuesday, July 18th) will be counted. Any edited replies will be disqualified. If you want to change your prediction then delete your old reply and create a new one.

Tour Touristique

Le Puy-en-Velay's most striking attraction is the Cathédrale Notre-Dame du Puy, dating chiefly from the first half of the 12th century. The façade, striped in courses of white sandstone and black volcanic breccia, is reached by a flight of sixty steps.

The iron statue of Notre-Dame de France (The Virgin Mary) overlooking the town was designed by the French sculptor Jean-Marie Bonnassieux, and is made from 213 Russian cannons taken in the Siege of Sevastopol (1854–1855).

Three miles from Le Puy are the ruins of the Château de Polignac, one of the most important feudal strongholds.

Each morning, pilgrims gather to be blessed before starting their (foot) journey to Santiago de Compostela (1600 km). The cathedral has been a Unesco World Heritage Site since 1998, as part of the "Routes of Santiago de Compostela in France".
