Dwarf Fortress! There is no other game where you can melt goblins with magma or freeze your enemies in solid blocks of ice. Capture dragons and breed an army of them. And declare war on the elves and watch as your Giant War Cougars tear them apart before cutting all the trees down just to make the elves cry some more. Smells like mayhem... Smells like Dwarf Fortress!

In the comments tell me about some of the notable or 'Fun' things that have happened to you in Dwarf Fortress.
Or if you haven't heard of the game before you can find it Here or Desura link Here

Because I'm curious to see how many Steamgifters like this game. Also want to see how many look for a hidden giveaway :D

It was a really long time ago so I cant remember why this happened, but one of my dwarves was going nuts and started drawing pictures depicting murder, or death and lots of blood and some other horrible things in the dining room walls, and then the others would react to them while eating and feel sick or something like that.

Yep, that happened to me too. Such variety in the game.

It's also on Desura, along with a Lazy Newb Pack.

I never follow up on Desura, so I had never known that DF was on there.

There's no other game with a worse UI and bad controls.

This +1000. As much as i want to like this game dat UI just kills it for me. I'd rather play Gnomoria, it may not have elves or dragons (yet) but atleast i don't feel my eyes starting to bleed after 10 minutes of playing it.

I was excited for and tried Gnomoria, but it doesn't have any of the stuff that makes Dwarf Fortress good. Too bad. Maybe they'll eventually add the good parts.

Agreed. It's very fun once you get used to it though.

TF2 with Dwarves.

After a goblin siege, my base got attacked by an undead dragon (VERY hard to kill). To make a long, epic story short, one of my dwarves with two broken legs crawled out of his bed and wrestled the dragon to death with his bare hands. All the while crawling on his stomach. It was probably the best thing that has ever happened to me in a game ever.

Even with the broken legs I would have made that dwarf my champion, that is one dwarf too tough to sit idle.

Haha, that sounds freaking awesome!

You should head over to the Dwarf Fortress forums and draw a little story about it to post. I love seeing what other people draw up about their adventures. =P

Ever tried to sell unicorn meat to elves? Or if you go by the games motto losing is fun: having a huuuuge cave city with sophisticated pillar support, elegant bridges spanning the abbyss, steamy waterfalls and everything overrun by lava beasts literally minutes after digging through that welcome warm stone to fuel your epic forge?

God, I'm always far to careful around lava for exactly that type of reason. Once I even set up three layers of defense between the fort and the lava pools, though now I just station guards there because I enjoy the chance for 'Fun'

Dwarf Fortress is exactly a game for me. And I love dwarves. Too bad the UI. I can't live with it :( Well, maybe one day, something will change.

Then check out Gnomoria. It's basically DF Lite with good UI. You can get it on Steam.

As much as I enjoy Gnomoria, just light doesn't do it justice. It is XXL. XXLight. It's got the looks, but it lacks the depth. But considering Gnomorias time of development compared to Dwarf Fortress... it's alright I guess.

This rememinds me of when I would play my games so much I would dream that I was playing them in my sleep.

week watching tutorials, reading and having fun with game motto and it becomes easy (if u don't settle near place when your cow skins become alive;) and u can't stop playing it.
Well i tried to learn my dwarves how to swim a few times when i forgot about switching floodgate somwhere while making extra comfortable baths and epic well.
One thing which maked me stopped playing a few times is fps drop, while making my fort superior and glamour, even with every tip at wiki

I never really had any problems with fps except for one time that I found an embark zone that seems to have been lifted from the rest of the earth so much that the massive waterfalls from the rivers killed my framerate.

Tried Dwarf Fortress but I just couldn't get into it. Beat Nethack a few times back in the old days, but this one was on a whole different level... Or maybe my brain just got too old... :)

I really love Dwarf Fortress. It has to be one of the best games that I have ever played. Seriously.

If there is one thing that I dislike about it, though, it's that in the normal mode you cannot travel anywhere (unless I've just never figured it out). You're stuck to one small area. I really wish you could take your dwarves all over the place like you can with your one dwarf in adventure mode. I'd love to be able to equip my dwarves and go exploring the map, build multiple cities, and pillage other cities. It would make the game much more fun and exciting.

Well the game is still in development, so something like that could come along at some point. And to be honest I want to do that too. :D
