It's unsafe to install Norton. Try a real, non-overzealous antivirus program.

Norton is a virus itself...
When people say they get a "virus" detected, i ask them what anti virus is, and if they say Norton, i facepalm xD

I've been using Norton for over 5 years and never had any problems. People who complain about Norton usually can't even configure it properly or are using some poor versions of the software (not Internet Security). I'm not saying you can't. Just saying attacking Norton is overrated.

We can say the same about Nascar.

Yeah but again there is nothing bad about Nascar either, if you don't like it doesn't mean it's bad.

What do you trust more Symantec or Valve? Either way, uninstall that garbage and get a decent alternative (I'm talking about the antivirus of course).

Which do you suggest.?

Kaspersky + comodo firewall.

Dota2 works on linux as well if you want to get rid forever of infected .exe

I personally don't see a need in buying utility applications, so I use a free antivirus, called Avast!
I have had it for around 4 years on all of the PCs that I have used and also recommended & installed it on friends' and family members' PCs.

No one has had any problems with it so far, its virus database is constantly updated and the online security warns you about suspicious websites using a crowd-source system. If it blocks something you know wasn't infected it easily let's you unblock it and go on with your day.

Avast is ok ( just mute the sound to avoid a heart attack when it updates ), it's one of the 3 good free antiviruses.

Kaspersky is the best nevertheless. Better database, quicker updates, mostly.

Anyhow, i use windows only for games, so i don't care about antiviruses. My main rig is a linux, worries free. Unless steam gets a virus i can hardly catch one.

True, it might be a good idea to mute the notification sounds and make the notifications display for a shorter amount of time.

Another tip is not to install the software updater module, unless you specifically want to keep all of your software up to date. I personally found it annoying, as I prefer to update my software when I see the need for it, not being forced to do it.

F-Secure. You need nothing else, it's a perfect and it has everything included. Doesn't spam, no errors like this.

My local ISP sells F-Secure subscriptions along with Internet plans. It's the most overbloated piece of crap I've ever seen.

Bitdefender is the way to go. They constantly win every AV/firewall test I'm looking at.

essentially, install ANY antivirus besides norton... norton fails to pick up 9 out of 10 trojans as it is the easiest antivirus software to override. the dota2 executable file is fine but if you're not 100% certain just perform a "verify integrity if game cache" as it will re-download any files which don't match the server's master file (save files will not be touched as they are not created with a master file on the server)

Dota 2.exe is not a computer virus. It is a life virus, it'll spread through your life and exploit it until you got nothing left but 750+ hours of Dota 2.

It's the first time Norton actually found a real virus.Congratulations Symantec, you finally did it !

Well, that's the best program. It detects the virus like it should. It doesn't give you heart attacks on updates. It is just there, doing it's work and it only pops up if there is a virus. You don't even need to know if there is an update because of COURSE there are tons of updates coming each day and week.

No ads, no heart attacks, no shit. Just Anti Virus if there is something.

I used to, and tbh I felt it was better than Kaspersky for me, but I was using a pirated copy and didn't feel safe about updates etc. so moved to Avast

Why would you install Norton? I only use Windows 8's built in firewall and that's it... just avoid being an idiot and you won't get any virus...

Norton...considered going back (had it for one year many many years ago), but nah, Kaspersky is doing wonders. And if I don't have that, I'll go back to MSE or Avast.

It's a false positive, this has been reported on Reddit already.
