EDIT: I've changed my mind. The Binding of Isaac. It's just the saddest game ever created. If we'll take out all of that laugh and bloodiness, we've got just a story of a boy desperately fighting for his life while escaping his own mum. Anything else?

I never understood why people thought Bioshock had a good story. Gameplay was nice and powers / guns ok, rapture had a great atmosphere but the story was (in my opinion) mediocre and predictable.

I disagree. I finally got around to playing the copy I'd had in my inventory for forever. Maybe I'm just a little naive, but I never saw the twists coming. Every time I thought the story was over, it wasn't. Still haven't finished it, been too busy.
But yeah, Bioshock has one of the best storylines in any game I've played so far.

The amount of railroading kept me disconnected from story. Story was nice, even good compared to common game stories, but I would not consider it exceptional.

Completed the game and checked the other possible ending scenarios from Youtube. I think I got the whole picture. In case with not getting it you meant that I did not attach myself to story, you are correct, for reason mentioned earlier.

the pacing was terrible. you get intense combat... then you get some more intense combat... and more and more... and it never goes slower or faster from that and then the game ends.
the gameplay itself was a shooting gallery. story is pretty much the only good thing about it.

Though Witcher 2 was a bit short, it certainly had a good story line.. Hopefully it'll be awesome in Witcher 3, with the whole Wild Hunt storyline...

Planescape: Torment, no brainer.. Bioshock (the original).. Armed & Dangerous (it's ridiculous, rather simple with no nuance, but crudely funny).. The Witcher games (even got me into the books)

Prince of Persia trilogy, American McGee's Alice.

There's not an official name for the trilogy, so I prefer to refer it as "Prince of Persia Trilogy". Anyway despite the fact that there's more than 3 PoP games these particular ones (Sands of Time - Warrior Within - Two Thrones) follow the same story line unlike others. However the last PoP game was intended as a prequel to Warrior Within and and a sequel to Sands of Time, yet it did not reach to the epicness of the trilogy in my opinion.

My favorite game with the best storyline would have to be Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.
