Why do some people complain about drm when they are using steam !?

Because Steam is a very unrestrictive form of DRM compared to some? The same way people don't complain about games once using CD keys.

It's not "unrestrictive". It's pretty appealing with all the "features" that come with it, yes, but it is pretty restrictive. Don't forget about the two layers of DRM you get when you purchase some games on Steam.

I'm perfectly fine with Steam's DRM. Yeah, the offline mode could use work, but that's pretty much the only thing that bothers me. Other than that, I don't see what problems I should be having with it. As for the other DRM, well, that's other DRM, isn't it?

Some people have problems with Steam, but you don't. Some people have problems with other DRM software, but some others don't. People with an unstable internet connection suffer the most with Steam and so do people who travel a lot.

The thing is, complaining about DRM in a general way when you use Steam religiously sort of makes you a hypocrite, and that's what the OP meant. Most DRM software doesn't disrupt gameplay and lets you play the game you bought normally without any issues whatsoever, some archaic ones let you play offline, even.

I'm not defending DRM in any way, shape, or form; and yes there are some absolutely terrible DRM schemes such as GFWL and Ubisoft's UPLAY, both which downright bang their dicks all over your game files and have the potential to great an ungodly mess. Though, saying that "Steam is perfect and flawless and there are no issues to be having with it and it lets me do whatever the hell I want" is most definitely a sign of delusion more than anything.

I'm not saying Steam is perfect, though. I'm talking relatively. Out of every DRM on the market currently, Steam is probably the one that best does its job while still providing as much freedom to its users as it can.

Of all the existing DRMs, Steam is the less bitching one

simply because some work as virus/rootkits and others as normal programs

EDIT: by closing Steam do your system still run any program or service about it ? no!

by closing, say, i.e.: any game with SecuRom or Tages it still run anything behind ? yes!

Origin g0t the germanic banhammer for getting information about hardware and software and sending to their marketing partners

(this was on EULA, you know, the stuff people do not read when installing a game :P)

DRM cause a lot of problems, especially DRM's like UPlay. The thing is people usually complain not about the DRM itself but bout the problems it might cause or about the concept of DRM. And since DRMs are associated with stupid marketing campaigns like "Piracy destroys gaming industry" that's understandable.
Personally, I'm one of those that don't like the concept of DRM since it assumes that any gamer is a possible pirate and that any pirate is a buyer if the DRM works.
I didn't have problems with DRMs so far except Ubisoft's DRMs. What really bothers me is that in some cases, even games bought on steam contain other DRMs. Batman AA & AC is a good example. Never had problems with GFWL (in fact I have quite some games on GFWL) but the fact that I have to type 2 passwords & usernames, 2 keys and so on it's frustrating.
The problem with DRMs is that some of them tend to be quite intrusive and do things behind your back. Origin is a good example for this and so is Tages (this crashed my system so many times that I can remember) & the well known StarForce.

Steam =/= Steamworks.

There are plenty of games on Steam that can be run directly from the game's exe and don't require steam to even be installed on your computer (once downloaded of course).
