As to provide some good criticism for an aspiring game developer learning how to make games as yourself, I want to start off by saying that the game looks a bit unpolished. From the trailer and the gameplay video on the itch.io page alone I have some things to say. The mutant portals that spawn and the noise they make when doing so is awfully mixed, not that you made it sound bad but the sound itself is very low quality and it really breaks the immersion. The mutants themselves are a bit weird, because when you attack them blood appears on the ground as well as the gibs of the mutant when it is killed, which is oddly satisfying, but for some odd reason they just vanish into thin air after a short period of time, with no disappearing animation or something to indicate that they are going to go away, they just vanish. I suppose it is to make the game run better which I understand completely, the gameplay video even stutters a few times. The UI doesn't really fit the game style at all, the heart for health fits pretty well but the font used and the waypoint marker is just a blue arrow, which I don't think is fit for a game of this nature. A blue waypoint marker like that I would expect to see in a goofy racing game or something of the sort. One of my main complaints is that why on earth does the AK47 make a laser noise? When I read AK47 on the itch.io store page I was a bit intrigued however let down that the AK47 (allegedly) promised on the store page wasn't actually what is in the game. The second thing about the weapon in question is that, to reload the weapon the character just hold the gun a little to the right and magically it fills up the magazine? I suppose it shoots lasers or something of the sort but that is a tad bit unusual. Learning to balance the sound in games is hard and takes practice, but you are almost there. There seems to be some sort of dialogue and/or story to this game that I saw from the in-game screenshots provided, however I can't see it in the videos provided so I can't give feedback on if it is soulless or not.

How long have you been making games? I can see that you put time into this and that you are trying to learn game development, good for you man! Although I don't intend to play this game myself since it doesn't particularly interest me, I hope I could provide some valuable feedback. The game also doesn't quite feel like an asset flip or a shovelware game, just a little rough around the edges. I think if you keep making video games like this and mastering your craft you might be able to make something half decent you could call your own, I am all for it.

I'd also put this in game showcase instead of Deals.

Happy Easter and I hope you don't take this negatively and that you improve from this criticism, I intended to do no harm!

I worked on this game for 22 straight days, 18 hours a day.
And here are the points I'll take a look at based on your feedback:

  • The portal sound is bad quality, needs a better quality one.
  • The mutants need fade out animation when they're disappearing after they die
  • Health Bar text to change
  • The object marker needs to be changed, the blue marker looks like a racing game style
  • AK47 reload sound (bullets)
  • AK47 shooting sounds like a laser

Your words are encouraging to me, Thank you!

You mostly got all my points, but you could also innovate on the "The mutants need fade out animation when they're disappearing after they die" idea and come up with something better that could replace the vanishing of the mutant gibs, instead of just fading out maybe they disintegrate, not sure if you would be able to pull it off. I also meant the AK47 reload ANIMATION rather than sound, there wasn't any sound if I recall correctly so it could also be good to add that. I see that a lot of hard work has gone into your project, and I wish you well on the future and more complicated projects, you definitely have potential.

Yes, but maybe only when you set a price to your game, but you can set it (temporary) to 0,00 then it's still free and people can have it permanently in their account but will also show in their app, it's a bit like claiming something on steam for free versus f2p.

Thanks.

I've added it to itch app, so if people use the app it'll be claimable by their account via the itch io app itself

Yes, while i did mention the app, but the app itself is really horrible which i think barely anyone uses, i tried mailing them, i had contact with someone that knew the person making the app but after years nothing has changed. If you could also just make it possible through a browser please.

The app is clunky, you can hardly see what games you have in a neat order, not to mention you can keep redeeming the same game over and over if you already have it, itch.io could have been such a great alternative after desura for indie developers but they failed, and they don't care, devs dump their games on it anyway.

As a side note: at least the app enables you to get a list of all titles you have on there with relative ease. Simply find the butler.db file on your system and open it with any sqlite tool or frontend. The games table contains all owned games.

I usually prefer to claim games on itch when possible, so they are synced to my Playnite data. A workaround I found for games who aren't claimable is to add them to a generic collection, and enable syncing of collections on Playnite as well. Not sure what's your use case for claiming, but could be worth considering if adding the game to a collection would do the trick instead.

Thanks well to have it regardless if you ever get a chance to try it, look into it, i got so many platforms, consoles, games and 99% i still spend on steam, but the whole app just doesn't make it very inviting either (same goes for the Epic app), even the Desura app was decent.

You've originally had posted this in the "Deals" section of the discussions - which is considered advertising and since you are the dev of the game is infringing on our Advertising rules.
Since you're also a new member on the site I'd like to suggest to read all of the FAQ and Guidelines to familiarize yourself with the rules and proceedings of the site.
Take this as a fair warning not to infringe on the site's rules again.

Thanks.

(I've moved this topic to Game Showcase where posts like this are acceptable since your game is free.)
