First off, I am in no way condoning fake giveaways at all. I agree that no one should make them and that anyone who does should be banned or suspended.

BUT- I don't see why people are so worried about "too good to be true" giveaways being fake before they enter them. I mean, why do people care if they lose 40 or 60 FREE points given to them by a FREE site in order to enter FREE giveaways where people give away FREE games? There is absolutely no catch or personal risk involved. People act like they had to pay for their points and that they are in short supply when, in truth, neither of those are the case. Am I the only one that thinks this is crazy? Does anyone know why people think this way?

Almost all the time, probable fakes are easily spotted by anyone for whom a brain cell count would necessitate the removal of their socks. Beyond that, based on the evidence, you choose to enter or you don't. It ain't hard.

Not sure about your opening post: I don't recall reading ANYONE [other than the odd dismayed "winner"] complaining that a particular giveaway WAS fake. It's always people letting the world know that a currently open giveaway IS [in their opinion] fake, which is strictly prohibited by the site rules, for reasons that should be obvious, and [if you are in doubt] have been discussed to death in countless other threads.

You ask if people are crazy for getting upset about losing points? At the risk of repetition, I don't remember anyone getting upset about this. The argument always surfaces in the form of users voicing a misguided concern about other, less intellectually proficient folks who [unlike they themselves] lack the necessary cranial faculties required to recognise a fake giveaway, causing the "Good Samaritan" user to take all measures possible in order to prevent these unfortunates from being parted from their hard earned and much treasured points...

I seriously can't say I've noticed any negatives with respect to calling out fakes, my girlfriend hasn't either. Callouts are either complimenting to the giveaway creator, or (in case it's a fake giveaway) make him doubt if he knows what he's doing, or will make other suspicious people more confident in not dropping points.

You mean, besides pissing off someone who potentially PAID for often very expensive game? :|

If your generosity is greeted with 'meh, fake' chances are you won't do it again.

We interpreted it as "Oh, awesome, my giveaway is so generous they can't believe it!". If I actually did give away three Skyrims, I'd feel rewarded for people thinking threy're fake. I could then go on and reply to them directly that they aren't fake, if I felt mischievous :P

I think that is because people don't like to waste time. Points are free that true, but they take time to renew so waste point for nothing is a little bit frustrating. Moreover, yo sometime have to make choices that are not easy. Enter a giveway for 60 points in order to try to win a game like Watch dogs or Dark souls 2 or enter 6 giveaways for 10 points each, with real prizes and more chances to win... If you aren't sure you'll get a game in the first case, it's more easy to choose to try "smaller" games.

Can't remember the last time I ran out of points. Is it really that big a deal?

Besides, if you value your points AND time that much, employ an assistant to vet your giveaways for you, and enter them on your behalf, freeing up YOUR precious time, while ensuring not a single one of your valuable points goes to waste...

What gets to me isn't the point "loss" or anything like that. It's how god-damn retarted one has to be to think that giveaways winners are actually supposed to give games to the creator. 'Cause obviously we all have way too much money and are willing to almost kill each other for a chance to gift a game to any fella that walks in off the street.

You don't have infinite free points. If i waste 60 of my points at the moment and get refunded after 2 weeks then i can't enter in many legit giveaway.
I won a fake giveaway in the past and i was so pissed off..

Same here, I won Sniper Elite V2 on GameMiner, turned out to be fake and I got MAD. Reason why I got mad was because I got happy when I saw I won, but was sad when it turned out to be fake.

So yeah, creating a fake GA is like giving a fuck you for Xmas: Both free, both aren't fun when its happening to you.

well lets say that you are an unlucky guy that made some legit GA but never won one, then one day finally you won an awesome game that you wanted but then the GA its fake, that can desmoralice him to keep aporting GA to the community

another one can be that you are in a lot of group giveaways so you need your points, then some one create a fake GA on one game that you want and spend your points on that GA instead of some group GA then you win and its fake and you lose your opportunity on legits GA

so there is people that dont read the rules (like me) and call a GA as fake to sae some troubles to another users because waiting 7 days for a winned game and then just found that it was fake really sucks

srry for my awful english u.u

Say it with me now....

It has nothing to do with points. Why do people keep harping on about points?

People like to point out trolls who do the fake giveaways for lulz, they like to point out system abusers (people who make fake giveaways to promote their facebook page, etc - happens quite a bit here), and NO ONE likes to see the happiness of their win turn into a "LOL I'm not giving you the game" comeback from the fake gifter. This is why people point out the fake gifters that the mods don't do anything about.

No one gives a shit about their free regenerating points. Stop babbling about points as if it was an issue.

Three basic reasons:

·First. I don't want to waste my points in a fake giveaway. Even if the points get refunded later, i could use them to enter in another giveaway, as i'm not all day here entering giveaways.

·Second. If i win a fake giveaway, who knows when will be the next time i will win one. I think, the more you win, the more time it has to pass before you get another win between each other. I mean, that there is a low probablility to win twice in the same day or in the same week, i guess.

·Third. To win a fake giveaway has to be dissapointing, to be honest, specially if you want that game so badly.

Thankfully, this didn't happen to me yet, as i always check profiles, time of membership, inventories, etc...
In any case, i never called out noone, as i usually pass about possible fake giveaways.
The only thing i don't like is when people make giveaways from free key games.

Have a nice day :)

My reason to hate fakes - watching that green bar for whole week knowing you won't get it.

I once joined obviously-fake giveaway just for lulz. And I won it. And it was making me sad, seeing that green bar.

Stupid people annoy me.
And every time I see a game I want (because it's inevitably a popular or high cost game) and I click on it, and see it's just some dumbass thinking free games come out of nowhere, I die a little inside. After a hundred of these tiny disappointments, it gets fucking annoying.

the crackpot who based his entire field on a very narrow set of clients, mainly victorian era inbred noble women(who went out of their way to see a psychologist and all had issues like sexual repression/hysterics or cerise lanister level "if i can't have one nobody gets to" penis envy) padded it with extrapolations based on a series of plays from greek tragedies he liked to read and applied it to everybody?

yeah, didn't think anybody saw it yet so figured i had carried the joke too far(poes law and such)...i can put it back... :P

And as we all know ancient greeks were masters of the bad touch. molested til just before puberty when your butt buddy drops you like a flaming potato because "too old", then once you're grown a bit its no women til you're married off and ready for children, til then its little boy ass or nothing(unless you're in the military when you take turns being a bed warmer, or if really lucky you might catch an enemy woman like achilles). why did you think he had "the anal stage of psychosexual development" for todlers?

so. Take a scholarly system that was majorly gay for aristotle specifically with a raging boner for greece in general, mashed up with victorian era "a man does his duty in the marriage bed once to consummate, then (if the first time didn't do the job) again to produce an heir while the woman lies back close their eyes and hums "god save the queen" while thinking about flowers until its over. After which they sleep in separate beds the rest of their life provided the socially expected number of children have been had and survive" a world where women get a madeup victorian disease where the overies attack your brain unless they get off every so often resulting in fainting spells and having to visit a doctor with a vibrator for treatments(said doctor wearing a creepy bird mask smelling of blood from the leaches and probably killing half his patients because some greek asshole who liked to vivisect dogs vomited his baseless ramblings on a page a few thousand years ago but was "so damned awesome" and overhyped nobody ever questioned it(so overhyped even knowing what a misinformation spewing douche he is they still waste our time with his shit in "higher learning"))....
...well is it any wonder you get some backwater venetian therapist making everything about sex and publishing papers about weird shit like toddlers acting out because they wish to kill the father and/or bone mommy?
speaking of, wonder what he'd say about that word. therapist...the-rapist. hmm...interesting. do you fear me? ah, I see. strip lie on the couch and tell me about your nightmares bwahahaha ;X

the greek enlightenment, bah. I'll take the dark ages any day. worst they had was plague and mountains of dung

Totally understand what you getting at!
But look at it like this!
I know random is random! Hell, my most played game is Borderlands 2!
But in the number off GA I entered, I only won one!
And guess what??? It was a fake GA!
Yeah, Dead Space is free on Origin (Got it there BTW), but I would like it in steam....
So, when you see a phrase saying you won a game and turns out to be a fake, you can tend to be a little "rager" and call out all fake GA's!

why? because mathematically you will only win a certain amount of giveaways, therefore if you win a fake giveaway, you just wasted a win.

that isn't how odds of winning work. they aren't cumulative, you can't "blow it" on a dud and need to start fresh building up the requisite number of losses...

I think there is a perception that a lot these fake giveaways are made by people who think they are getting the game, as opposed to giving it away. I can understand the frustration of someone breaking the site rules in anticipation of thousands of people lining up to give them something... or if not frustration, then at least giving them a hard time for it.

1 decade ago

The answer is simple because if no one did care this site would be cramped with gazzilions of fake giveaways, accounts and cheaters.

I don't follow. its not like you guys are out playing batman cleaning up the site....all you can do is bark at random people while you wait for the mods to be batman for you(which they do exactly the same with or without barking they can't hear until they've already arrived to deal with it because somebody more sensible quietly clicked on the batlight and walked away.
the reason its frowned on is sometimes you'd bark at some random innocent(possibly spooking them from the site) which pisses off the batman)

It's very disappointing to see the green win bar and then later not actually getting anything.

Anyway i don't usually enter giveaways made by people who didn't make a giveaway before. The only exception is some currently popular title to give away, because it's more probable that it won't be fake even if the person who made the giveaway didn't make any giveaway before.

because when someone goes on a site, and they put up they are giving away a game, then someone wins and they say, oh, it was fake. 1. they already agreed to steams terms of service 2. they didn't provide what they promised 3. it just ruins everything for people who win and can't afford to buy the games they want, in hopes someone giving it away would be the answer to that. 4. it's fucked up and people who do that to be assholes are shut out of social interaction for ruining a conveniently hosted site for giving away games to those who can't afford them.
