Hey, guys today i got my first scam on Steam, the dude was giving me $15US for my Payday and DeadSpace 2, so we make the deal that I will trade 1 game first and then the other one after the paypal transaction, as soon I trade my Dead Space to him, he block me, :( . Why people do this? I mean steam games are really cheap, you can easily buy them, and this guy has like 230 games on his account, why are you going to ruin your reputation for a game.

I just reported him to steam rep. Hopefully he cannot scam anymore. What you guys think?

EDIT: Thanks for your comments guys, I feel better now most of you guys are right :)
And the main reason of doing this was that i want to buy a new Iphone Headphones cause I lost the original ones like 2 days ago, and I find a cheaper ones on ebay, I was lack of money, cause use all my money in some medicines, and I dont get payed till 15 may :(. I know, it was against the ToE's and I learn my lesson now. Payments are first! LOL!! Nah JK.

Thanks a lot guys.

I was thinking about him because there was a sticky about him being a middleman but I couldn't see it anymore so I wasn't sure whether I could bother him :) anyway I tried my luck and got my game so it should be fine :)

that happened because you didn't use a middleman. with transaction like that one you should ALWAYS use a middleman.

I never used a middleman in such transactions and I never got scammed (this way... I got scammed in another way) so far.

The truth is, you have to make sure the other party knows that you are prepared for a scam. And have taken all necessary actions against that. Screenshot proof, steamrep link to profile, etc.

Accounts with many games usually dont scam (usually). Maybe the guy had a new account, few months old? Such accounts are sometimes fake, e.g. a guy who bought all of his games with a stolen credit card who just waits for them to be removed and his account blocked.

That's why I won't bother trading anything for money. It just isn't worth the risk. Better off trading it for a new game and sitting on it until a new one comes out.

Paypal , even if they go first . My advice ? Dont belevie people with no games in libary (Like 20 games) or with no comments on profile, aslo check this

1 decade ago

Yes people are dicks, and because of a scam you also don't trust people anymore. Anyway there will always be retarted fucked up bastards that are still doing this, so watch out with your trades. You all should know that. I hope that you get your money back in a way, good luck.

Trusting complete strangers with valuable items anywhere is stupid. You should know better and not be so trusting. If you give anyone anything and leave them in a position where they can choose to run off with it, always assume that they will.

Personally, I'd rather trust people (and be disappointed now and then) than going through life thinking everyone I don't know is a thief just waiting for an opportunity to rip me off.

Enjoy getting ripped off then. The optimism of wanting to have faith in humanity does not negate you from being a fool.

It's still a better alternative though.

Well, I've done a couple of hundreds trades, at least a few dozens of which involved me going first with keys or gifts. I have not been ripped off by anyone, so my trust has apparently always been justified. Can't say I feel much like a fool, really.

I got scammed about 3 days ago, made a ticket to Steam support and he's banned by now. (he had over 100 games on he's account)
Jackass got what he deserved.
Also you should do the same, if you're lucky he might get banned.

My post is in Official scam report thread aswell.

Well this guy is just retarted. I mean c'mon , what a faggot are you if you scam someone else for a game. I think that you should get ALL of his games, then he knows how it feels to get fucked up. Good luck with this.

From the FAQ: Please do not call out users in the forum or chat.

calling out, and showing a scammer is different? no? when theres proof, its not calling someone out? since calling out someone would require there to be a hint of uncertainty? idk?

No it isnt different, this isnt the 1st time someone has called out a scammer on the forums. Its against the rules

but it doesnt. The rule is in place to prevent people from calling others out, and ruining the reputation of good users due to misunderstandings. The reason for this has been explained many MANY times, and there are NO exceptions.

I love how it says "You will not receive any items or gifts lost in the trade." That's like a huge "fuck you, middle finger" to the victim and shows how very serious they take Scamming into matter.
