Well, yeah, I'm a Civ fan. A massive Civ fan- I own every Civ game to date before V. Just wondering, since it's at 75% off, should I get it or should I wait even more for it. I've tried it, and I was somewhat unhappy with it being so slow loading (the movie plays while the game loads and you can't skip it), but I'm wondering if that's been fixed.

You can skip the movie. You just need to find the Civ folder, and rename or delete the movie file. I think it's a great game and it's unlikely that it'll drop much more in price. But I've never played anything resembling a strategy game (aside from the Heroes of Might and Magic series) before this, so take my opinion for what it's worth.

You can also go to \Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\UserSettings.ini and set SkipIntroVideo to 1.

That's probably the better and more failsafe idea.

But yes, you should get it OP. It is a really good game and the addon is coming next month.

Just do it.... it's cheap and the only DLC's missing in the GOTY edition are avialable in a combo pack for 2,50 I think. And the Movie is just an alternativ loading screen... and you can't skip a loading screen... of course!

No, that combo pack IS in the GotY version.

False.
GOTY does not Include Korea or Wonders of the Ancient world DLCs, which is available in a 2-pack as shown in my link for 2.50

I thought he was talking about the other combo pack that has 4 DLCs that are being sold for $2.50 post-sale.

Civilization III is the best game in this series, IMHO.

No buy it now while it's cheap then grab the expansion if you want it when it's released. Great game, I bought it the other day and I'm pretty much hooked.

I guess I'll wait until they stop making expansions and release a complete (if possible) and it goes on sale. Sort of like Civ Chronicles, but with Civ 5- hopefully retail.

As AliSama says, have fun waiting around for another couple of years. ;) Whenever you do get it, enjoy. :)

personally:
IV>V>III>II (i never played CIV I)
i loved CIV IV however i cant deny that CIV V is also very good.it has excelent graphics, great UI and almost perfect soundtrack.
its totally worth the price at 75% discount. again my view is that CIV V is a good simplification of CIV IV making the game easier to play while perfecting some of the great things of CIV. the only thing that bothers me is the lack of religion.
Since you are a massive CIV fan you will certanly like this game.
The movie for me last only about 10 secs and i have a prety crappy laptop. in my descktop the movie almost skips instantly. for me it's not something that bothers me since i prefer to see the movie then the normal "nividia, ati, intel core" or whatever intros.

If you liked every other Civ, you're sure to like this one.

To get rid of the movie, there's a trick - I think you just have to go into a settings.ini file, and set a value to 0. I googled "remove intro Civilization 5" and got a nice tutorial. You'll just have a black screen, but it should make things faster.

IV was the best one, but V is a somewhat more streamlined Civ; which certainly isn't a bad thing because it is great. Definitely pick up now cause it's so cheap.
