The part that I found funny originally is when KOCMOTPAX said he was sorry because at first he thought you said to find a "bit.ch" job on the internet and you asked why he was sorry. So as you see, when you asked why tsukeyomi was LOLing because you hadn't said anything funny, that was also funny. ^_^

I live in Angola, IT skills are rare among the general population. I usually charge the equivalent of $50 to $100 + the price of any hardware replaced.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

you charge way too much! is people mad there to pay you that much?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No, it's normal here, shops charge $200 and above and their work isn't always good.

EDIT: The price of anything technological is greatly inflated here, to give you an idea with the $ equivalent of local currency.

  • PS4 games: $140-$180 depending on age, lowest ever was $120

  • PS3 games: $120-$160

  • Laptop (HP, 1TB HDD, i5, Nvidia GTX 660m, no extras): $2500

  • 1mb/s internet (download speed of 128 Kb/s): $100 a month

maybe go buy the components in a neighbour country where they are cheaper ?

components are imported mostly from USA, there is no way they can be cheaper. So all countries around have same prices for most things.

yes, prices in $ is everywhere

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

they should be in the currency of your country, but for example same model of GTX 760 costs almost the same in Spain, Romania, Russia, France, Ukraine, etc. Same with other parts, to buy cheaper, go to USA.

Do you have a friend in America? Ask them to buy the products, and then just internationally ship it to wherever you are.

I guess the topic starter is from Russia, and there you need not pay any import taxes if the price of the package is less than 1000 euros. The problem is that salaries in many Russian regions are very often less than 200 euro per month.

That's the kind of behaviour, that actually made PCs so expensive in his country.

  1. Second-hand market.
  2. As you already have a laptop, bying an eGPU and a decent graphics card might be a temporary solution.

Well, that's probably the cheapest you can get.
Might be worthwhile hunting eBay for items "for parts or not working" with minor defects, that can be easily fixed.

Get an internet job, you can find offers at reddit (slavelabour, beermoney, etc) for example, and do tasks for some extra income on your free time whenever you feel like it, it'll take some time but you'll find a stable income, people on those subreddits are quite nice, ask for help and they'll help :)

Great PC (without monitor) cost around 800-1000 dollars. If you spend more, there is really small performance increase in cost of a lot of money.
I think everybody with average salary can buy it in 1 or 2 months...

that heavily depends on the country you live in.
Not everybody in the world has an 800 dollar month salary

Wut? 800$/month is pretty low for a "developed country", but google "average salary in Venezuela" and you have 0.8$/month. That's correct 0.8$ per month!

Sorry, got a wrong website - they must have had a currency conversion issue, but if you take a look here. There is a number of countries with annual wages below 800$ (e,g, Kyrgyzstan or Bangladesh).

wow, but still Venezuela has 495 per year = only 41 per month. With these money, it is impossible to buy new good PC :-(

It's even less. something like 32$/month (look at the description of the issues with the conversion rate).
I'm pretty sure, PCs aren't the main issue with this kind of income.

Well, I don't have a concrete concept but more of an idea for your situation. At my place the police and customs authorities are auctioning off stuff which they have confiscated from time to time. Maybe your local authorities do something like this as well and you can grab at least a decent 2nd hand machine for a reduced price.
