Seeing as the developers practically stole money from consumers via lying about the features...

Don't worry - if not pirated this game; wouldn't waste a second playing it.

piracy is not theft in the first place. it's copyright infringement. There is a very real difference.

There are some games in this world that are not even worth the effort to pirate. This is one of them.

Even if it becomes a 9/10 game after all the updates it's still wrong to play it. Because the asshole who made this is a liar and a crook.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You expect people to say that thje game so sucks that not even it doesn't count as theft but as a favor?

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Short answer: Yes.

Long answer: Colonial Marines was buggy on release, is it theft if you pirated that? Duke Nukem Forever wasn't as good as it was supposed to be, is that theft? They were just giving away Stealth Bastard in the Humble Bundle, so what's a few cents to them?

You can still do it if you want, just don't justify it to yourself by saying "well, they lied so it's okay." If you want to pirate it, just admit it's because you don't want to pay.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It's immoral to even pirate this game because you'd be giving time and attention to a game produced by a liar and a crook.

cracks work for singleplayer games, RARELY for multiplayer ones, because you have to sign in to a server.

so if someone steals 20 bucks from you, and then you steal it back, this is somehow wrong?

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No. Your choice of words is purposely trying to push us to the conclusion you want. In reality, if they are stealing your 20 dollars, you're not stealing it back. You're retrieving it or reclaiming it or simply taking it back. You're not stealing it since it's yours to begin with.

Now, there are hundreds of reasons why this might still be wrong. If you break into their house to take back your money, you're in the wrong, for example.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

What? Breaking into someone's house to take back your money is definitely wrong.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Whoops, sorry. I meant to say 'in the wrong,' not 'not in the wrong' :P Fixed.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

how much did they take and did you leave enough of your money behind to pay for the window?

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

well this really rests on what one considers to be 'right' and 'wrong', which can certainly be subjective. one could argue that taking anything is theft and 'retrieving' something should be done legally, rather than claiming the right to do so oneself.

either way, i dont go in for these kinds of silly supposedly 'profound' sayings. two wrongs can definately make a right. they dont always, but in some cases it definately can.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well, if the second wrong makes a right, then doesn't that wrong BECOME a right? But that's getting into philosophy :P Long story short, I'd have to agree with you there.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Don't forget that the OP's argument is basically "they stole 20$ from tons of people... so I'm going to steal 20$ from them even though they didn't ever do anything to me!" essentially. If they somehow stole from OP then downloading it wouldn't really change anything as they'd have already paid for it? lol

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah, but the devs didn't steal The War Z from OP, did they? They just stole it from everyone else.

No, theft is theft, piracy is piracy. They are two distinct entities. You would still be pirating WarZ, but you would not be stealing it.

1 decade ago

Maybe, but nobody would give a f**k

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

yes it would be, because when companies do it, its called 'business', and when governments do it, its 'taxation'. consumers are the only ones who dont get to call it anything other than theft to get away with it.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

taxes are more like mugging than thievery anyway. they don't take the money, they use the threat of force(jail or whatever) to make you give it to them

1 decade ago

Oh nvm, what I said, thought you were asking if you should do it to play it my bad, derped.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Piracy of software is a confusing subject, as in every sense of the word it is an unfair thing to do to the persons involved in whatever you are downloading, but it doesn't really fit the definition for "theft" as for something to be a theft you must prevent anyone from legitimately owning the thing in question, which piracy doesn't do.

As for pirating War Z, what's the point? You're just going to end up playing a really shitty game.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It's one of those things where you want to play it to know firsthand. Like watching an Uwe Boll movie. I've entered a couple giveaways for it on here just so I can know firsthand how awful it is or be pleasantly surprised and actually enjoy it.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Seeing as piracy doesn't count as theft regardless of the circumstances, no.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

If you were never going to pay for the game to begin with, go for it. They don't exactly lose money for it. Who knows, maybe you will feel it deserves the money and you might buy it... OR at least I would do that. :p I done it I mean.
