UPDATE (April 29) - You should have been autocharged one week in advance for this bundle if you are a subscriber.

I was charged $10.80 ($12 x 10% HB Monthly coupon = $10.80)

Proof

Have problems with your payment?

try to ...

  • contact customer support here
  • update your payment information

Because I get the same questions in my inbox probably 10+ a day ... Q + A ❤

Q: How does this 10% off coupon work? Does it work for 1st time subscribers only? What about current subscribers?

  • A: To both first time subscribers AND current subscribers: You CAN use the 10% off coupon. They autocharge you $10.80 (if you have the coupon) one week before the bundle goes live, or you can pay early to get the the featured unlock game and still get the bundle for $10.80.

If you pay $12 for next month's bundle, you will get a key for the featured game immediately. If you are already a member and choose to wait it out for the pay-date (1 week before the May bundle launches), you will get a key for the game then.
Note: Some people may have 10% off coupons for the monthly bundle. These coupons will apply to your purchase, and you will pay $10.80 instead of $12.

Q: "When is the latest I can unsubscribe (if I am a [re]current subscriber) to avoid being autocharged for the next month's bundle if I subscribe for this one now?"

  • "[re]current" meaning you let the system autocharge you based on your payment details on your account profile"*
  • A: ONE WEEK before the next bundle goes live, you will be autocharged if you are currently subscribed. This means you will be charged APRIL 29 if you want the MAY MONTHLY BUNDLE.

  • I recommend unsubscribing right away if you know you don't want next month's bundle.

Q: BUT WAIT!! I decided that I want the MAY bundle and it's passed April 29th...! Can I still get it??

  • A: YES. April 29th is the day they AUTOcharge you if you are a recurrent/current subscriber

    • [re]current meaning you let the system AUTOcharge you because your payment details are in the system and you don't unsubscribe
  • HOWEVER, if you want JUST the MAY bundle, subscribe for it NOW, PAY, and IMMEDIATELY UNSUBSCRIBE so that you DO NOT get charged for the JUNE bundle.

Your LAST day to get the MAY bundle is MAY 6th BEFORE 10AM PST

Q: Can i unsubscribe right away if I just want the MAY Bundle?

  • A: YES, you can unsubscribe away if you just want the MAY bundle. You will get Mad Max + Everything else that will be in the bundle once it goes live.

Q: What is the latest I can be "subscribed" to to avoid being charged for the next month's bundle? (JUNE Bundle)

  • A: You MUST unsubscribe before they charge you a week before the bundle goes live. The latest to unsubscribe for the MAY Bundle is APRIL 29th.

Q: Will I get everything inside the bundle if I subscribe just for this month's bundle, and then unsubscribe right away?

  • A: Yes, you get the entire bundle and won't be charged for the next bundle.

Q: Do they reveal games early?

  • A: NO. They do not provide hints. Sometimes they may, but this is very RARE. One or two days before, they will reveal a Humble "Original," which is an exclusive DRM-Free game provided only by Humble Bundle. However, they DO NOT REVEAL GAMES BEFORE THE BUNDLE GOES LIVE.

Q: Will I still get the Early Unlock game(s) if I don't want to pay early for the bundle? Will I be able to get the game if i buy it NOW before the bundle goes live?

  • A: ANYONE who buys the bundle, whether you pay early, have a current subscription and let HB autocharge you 1 week before the bundle goes live, or don't have a subscription but decide you want to purchase the bundle, AS LONG AS YOU PAY FOR THE BUNDLE ANYIME BEFORE THE BUNDLE GOES LIVE, YOU WILL GET THE EARLY UNLOCK GAME.

  • The only benefit to paying early is getting a Steam key for the early unlock game earlier than people who choose to pay later on.

Now you get it when you pay for the next month, yes. The first few had deals where you could get a game from the monthly pack in the next one if you subscribed, now they just reveal one of the regular games every subscriber will get.

Edit: bought May bundle and the Mad Max key is on my Humble account page.

Mad Max…
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh… I think I'll stay for this month. Undecided though. Not really a fan of "open world but only in name" game design. Still, I hear people saying good things about it.

Edit: Oh, wait, had like three coupons for the monthly anyway. That whoppin' 120 cents was totally a tipping point though. :D

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I don't understand your "Open world but only in name" comment, the game features a real themed open world, with many side activities and events.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yes, but it's mostly fucking around without any real meaning. Frankly, I don't recall many games recently where open world meant anything besides you could wonder and do random stuff that was just a time waster. GTA V and… more or less that's it. Maybe Arkham Knight. Even FO4 just caved in and did procedurally generated repeat stuff (go there and gather stuff or go there and kill everyone… original…).
Still, eventually it stops being a buzzword and maybe designers can concentrate on just doing content. Unless they go the stark opposite way like the also popular interactive cinema type games.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Even FO4

Bethesda open-world games aren't exactly known for their depth of content.
I would have assumed FO4 to be the most obvious one in your list, not an "even this" example :P

I've yet to see an open world game (other than some MMO games) that actually makes any meaningful use of the label. It's almost always just an excuse to increase the size of the world at the expense of making it far more empty of predeveloped content.

So, insofar as it relates to current expectations on the label, Mad Max fits in rather well- and from what I've heard, its filler content is a lot more fun than most.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Bethesda's games since Oblivion were more like one giant excellent map filled with side content but no actual main driving plot. Heck, even Morrowind was like that; most hardcore players would find it difficult to tell you what the hell even the central storyline is. But they always had something to make you explore the maps, some stuff to keep interest. FO4…? What's there? Random building materials, random missions of two kinds, and a few quest hubs. Probably worse in this regard than what fanatic Bethboys accuse New Vegas' map with (which, granted, was rather dull).

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I haven't heard that complaint about New Vegas, but I think I see the distinction you're making with FO4 now: Rather than continuing to emphasize what Bethesda does best [rewarding exploration], it's lacking on that front as well?

Either way, everyone I personally know that has played Max has gushed about how much fun the side-elements are, so I imagine if you're at all into the gameplay, it ought be a better example of the genre.

Max does looks like they took the crazy most-fun parts of previous open world games and combined and emphasized them, so it could be a lot of fun. :)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I hope so, because I bought the May pack with the intent of playing this game eventually. I'm more of an adventure/cRPG/RTS guy, but I can enjoy a good action game if it really delivers in gameplay and meaningful content.

I've been subscribed since the first month and so far haven't been disappointed. Looks like next month will be no different. If they had to get rid of the weekly bundle to increase the quality of monthly and the regular humble bundles than I say it was worth it :)

I am the opposite. March was fantastic and April was very good as well. And Mad Max at this price is a steal. So i am happy.

Comment has been collapsed.

I got the first 2 months, then I sat out for a while because they started giving duplicate games (ended up doing a trade for wasteland 2 because I really wanted that game), subbed this month for South Park and War is Mine because they've been wishlisted forever and I am really excited with this months selection, only 1 game that I probably wont play that much. So I'll hang onto another month (Mad Max what??)

Holy hell, Mad max. Totally worth for it alone.

Tempting, also since I have another coupon for 10% of on humble monthly, so once more I could manage to sneak away with 10.80$! ;]
Still, gotta think about this one abit!

If you trade or farm CV, it may be a gamble with relatively low risks and may return its price. Gamble though nonetheless. I think it's more of a question if you really want Mad Max in a month or not.

It's more for my own cause, to try out Mad Max & have a decent chance on some other titles that might make good GA's or likely :)

This is the answer I got:

Hi there,

Thanks for getting in touch with us! I'm sorry to hear you weren't satisfied!

According to our Terms of Service, all payments on Monthly Bundles are final. We are occasionally able to make exceptions to this, if a game is not functioning correctly for some reason; but in that case, refunding also automatically cancels the subscription.

We totally understand that some folks might get duplicate games or titles they don't love, though, so in the case that you get a game that you already own, each game included in the Humble Monthly subscription can be gifted away individually.

I didn't get it yet, so Mad Max as the early unlock keeps me getting the monthly for yet another month :) I'm also no mad at them for putting 6 indie games that I don't have on top of Stick of Truth and This War of Mine in the April one. Keep it up HB!

Mad Max ... was never worth much to begin with (15$ tops), but in the HB May it will likely outweigh any other game - would buy.

Mad Max is one of the best games I played last year. One of the few games I have ever played that I wish they bought out DLC for or just made the game longer or whatever I just wanted more! That was after playing it for 45 hours too...

My opinion is that, generally, the monthly bundles are only worth it if you want the early unlock game; so far, I don't think I've ever looked at the rest of the games and thought "damn, I really wanted that bundle"

+1 have only ever pre-order 1 game and that was because I am a one piece nut and didnt have any game for it yet, and Pirate warriors 3 was from beginning till where the manga was at the time of release (in contrast to games that have only 20-30% of the story as content) so was a must buy for me ^^
