Ok so I purchased a GTX 770 yesterday, it will be arriving tomorrow, however I do not have the required cables to power this. it needs a 6 pin and a 6+2 pin. My motherboard also needs a 4 pin. I have ordered a 2x Molex to 6+2 adaptor but people are saying its best to not use, Obviously having spent so much on a GPU I would rather not go blowing it up first day. I have been looking everywhere for a PSU that has all this but after so many hours of looking I am still coming up empty handed. If anyone could share some light on what to buy I would be forever grateful. Thanks :)

I feel I should add I am in the UK :( Thanks for the links though I appreciate your time and effort

It needs 14 pins? What universe are you from?

A whole bunch of those 700 series card need 14 pins.

a lot of cards use 12 pins, some use 14, and even a few use 16. I've built rigs with two cards that used 16 (two 8 pins) and my own has 12, and quite a few nvidia higher ups run 14. I've also used one that ran off 24 pins.. I really wish I actually owned that one. 525 watts of pure gaming performance.

Im not completely sure, that's a little confusing. I have a little computer knowledge but that make no sense to me :P Also I ideally need a 650w+

PSU I think a 600 watt PSU is recommended for that card. Edit: I just saw you are in the U.K. I'm not sure who sells computer parts there. Where did you buy your 770 gtx

In the details section on Newegg it is listed as main connector 20+4. That is what you need. On your link it lists: ATX Power connector (24-pin)

I suppose if you lot are as stumped as me, my second question would be is this safe to use instead? I have read around that its a bad idea, but no reason was ever given. I figured you computer savvy people might be able to elaborate :)

I've never used one, I'm not sure if it's safe or not. What PSU are you currently using?

The link I purchased it from doesn't work. Its just a generic, relatively cheap power supply, 650w

Do you have four free molex connectors to use two of those adapters?

I have the spare 6 pci-e, I just need the 6+2, so I only need the 2 molex, but Yeah I have them available :)

A splitter cable like that has nothing wrong with it in terms of ruining hardware, at least not a decent one. However it does decrease power efficiency by adding another length of cable which is why some people say to avoid it. Others because a power supply could balance improperly when running such wattage off of molex.

You should be fine running that connector if you already have a PSU you're set on using. Otherwise buy another PSU and save time and energy (literally saving power).

That is a great answer thanks! I shall use it for now then, and let my wallet recover before I attack it again. But I shall look into buying that GPU js93583 recommended. Thanks for your help all! :D

You are kinda lucky 'cause my father fried his PSU 2 weeks ago and we did some research.
Here some cheapish-but-good models:

They're all solid and they all have the connectors you required.

Oh wow thanks for the links! That fsp one looks like it would do the job! Shame its not a little stronger but I think that should suffice :D

Well, all of these have a bigger version. It's up to you to pick it, if you think you need it.

In any case, glad I could help.

It should be more than enough for you GPU though.

I see you are particularly worried about the 4-pin connector for the MB. Most recent PSUs have a 4+4 pin connector, meaning it's 2 cables running along, so you can use either 4 or 8, depending on your MB.
Similarly for the GPU you'll often see "6/8 pin" (or "6+2 pin") connector.

Do not buy adapters. Any decently branded (Corsair, Silverstone, XFX, etc.) 650W+ PSU should suit you fine, depending on what else you've got in your case.
If in doubt, get 750W.
