Just bought Max Payne 3 for $15 and Mark of the Ninja for $3.50. If games are this cheap off places like Amazon and compatible with Steam, why do people not take advantage of the opportunity?

Not sure where you get the idea that most people don't look outside steam.

I don't feel like installing multiple client for running games, so I always stick with Steam. But of course I look out everywhere for better deals....which is Steamworks games.

Some people just don't care about deals from other sites because Steam offers more convenience.

I guess most of us think/buy outside the (steam) box already, as long as it's steamworks (personal choice), exception made of Very Few for a while now.

All the cases I know (real life mates) is pure lazyness! They don't want to use more than one site. Even if the games are for steam and can buy any new game 20-25% cheaper as on gmg.
I can't understand it, but happens.

Yuo think those are deals? If you had the Editor's Choice coupons (that came with things like $7.50 Scribblenauts and $13 Lego Batman 2 + both Lego Harry Potters), Max Payne 3 would have been $10 and the Microsoft bundle including Mark of the Ninja and four other games for $10 and $5! Amazon is just killing it right now. Tony in their Digital Games department is amazing. :D

Because I can only pay using PSCs, they're not supported by many sites.

I like to put all my game in one place :)

Steam is really helping me in that ,

And steam is one of the only store that got a place for the community in it (Desura, etc.)

Th steam community is really one of the reasons I'm buying games from it

Another reason is that I can redownload games

And steam cloud really helping in this

Plus all the achivement that you can do and everyone can see them , it's really motivate you to continue play & buy

And steam is really easy to use , I want to play one game , I click play

I want another ? , I just select it and click play , I don't have to look out for the disk and replace it with the precious one ;)

OP is talking of purchasing steam keys on other stores much cheaper than steam, not about games that doesn't use steam.

I only buy games that have Steam keys because I love to keep all my games together in one place (and many other things).

You're right that you can find really great deals in many stores that can be activated through Steam, but I try to only use Amazon and Steam because there are so many good deals that I would probably run out money quite fast.

Gmg won't let me spend my money. I abandonned the idea to get any games from them, i'm fucking bored of their shitty support. I can buy anywhere on internet with paypal and my credit card. Only GMG doesn't want my money, and on top of that, they want me to pay in £ whereas i use €. So double fuck them. Anyway, amazon.com has now pretty much the best deals overall.

It's funny how OP thinks everybody is living in the US. The mind ends at the US border as usual... facepalm

Indeed true.

On the other hand, you just have to use a valid US address and you are ready to purchase.

I've always bought games from Steam until a month or so ago when I discovered this site..

I simply didn't know about all the other vendors that sold you steam keys. As simple as that, I'm sure there are plenty of others who just don't know about the other places to get games.

I was pretty much the same, before I joined SG I had never bought a steam game anywhere but through steam, didn't even know the option was there. Also only learned about game bundles from here too. I love this site for so many reasons! :D

Because they dont know about it or are afraid to buy from other sources?
Nowadays i look for third-party steam sellers, but when i started using steam, the first games i bought were on the shop ofc.

Regional restrictions, payment method restrictions, personal preference, trust issues, and a few more reasons probably.

Amazon has Mark of the Ninja for 3.75 not 3.50 as far as I can tell, still a good deal!

I've picked up a lot of games from retail shops and activated them on Steam, Cities In Motion Collection for £1 (£45 on Steam), Chivalry is £7 in Game, £10 on steam etc.

I don't have a credit card, and steam has payment methods that don't require one, at least here on Brazil

I try to shop around when I want to buy things (steam sales not included) however I have to weigh up if it really is worth it sometimes when buying from Amazon.com because I live in the UK and I get charged about £1.50 for the transaction :V

i know it seems a bit much, but you could get a FairFX card - it's a prepaid mastercard that you can use abroad (or in england) and youll only ever be charged the base mastercard exchange rate for your items. Or if its only for the US, you can get a US card that only charges you the exact amount in dollars (though your topup will be converted to the nearest mastercard base rate.

There used to be a link to get the card for free if you put £50 on it from the MoneySavingExpert site, but you can spend the £50 in the UK too.

Oooh right that is something I'll look into thanks! I'd heard about prepaid cards before but never really read up on them :)

One reason: They don't know any better.

I like to think sites like this help people figure it out though.

My credit card doesn't work over the internets, so only way for me to get games is either:
Getting them free,
Asking a friend/family member,
Getting the game from a store,
or the easy alternative: Buying a PaySafeCard.
