Yup, in that case if the discussion seems really weird and the trade becomes problematic, it is better to skip it. Better not trade than have a bad trade due to miscommunication.

Nope. I figure their English is better than any attempt I'd make at their native language, so who am I to judge? As long as I can communicate clearly enough to complete the deal with them, I'm not too worried about grammar.

Just one thing to mention - I'm not English native speaker either, but I'm not comparing speaking some language that is used by one or two small countries to speaking English, which is... well kinda obligatory to be at least a little bit communicative in modern world.

I agree.
And it's also how you use that translator, 1 way is never enough. To get best results, translate the result back into your native language and see if the meaning is kept; if not, rephrase.. that's the hard part. Anything less is just laziness.

you can't really blame them though as in reality we all assume people should speak english when that opens up a separate can of worms in itself... i suppose it comes down to whether you would like them to talk to you at all or just cut the smalltalk. if i can roughly understand them then it doesn't bother me who i talk to, IRL or online but i can also see how it bothers others.

Not really, if they want to gift me something, I'm glad they do and if it's during a trade, I try my best to put the words that I get together and make a meaning out of them. Everything can find its place, unless you're an elitist jerk.

No I don't, not everyone is lucky enough to being able to defend themselves on more than one language (Or, in English) So I appreciatte any intention of communicating with me, as I also do when a foreigner is in my country and at least tries to speak the local language (Whith that I mean a hello, thanks and do you speak English is more than enough) I don't like people assuming, or expecting me to know any other language than my mother one. Nor I expect anyone else.

Having said that I totally disagree with the concept of English being a global language and forcing people to learn it. Having said that, seems that the only option is stay by the flock
