The one I have the most fond memories of is Ultima Online. Not a very good game in itself, but it was very flexible, which meant that it was quite easy for the community to do interesting things in the game. Far more so than any other MMO that I've ever played.

I have memories of other MMOs as well, EverQuest, Anarchy online, WOW, Guild Wars to name a few. For UO, it was the community that was the cause of my good memories, it was very tight knit, unlike any other MMO that I've played that tended to be fractured into friends groups (guilds, or small guild alliances).

I used to love playing a miner/blacksmith in that. Still haven't found a game to give me that level of freedom or the crafting system to match.

I remember when i was like 10 years old (20 years ago) reading on a kind of new technologie newspaper a guy that play ultima online, it were some kind of diary and when i read about he taming a dragon i was like: i NEED to play that. When i finally play it, was awesome, my very first mmorpg (then i played Ragnarok Online, and much later Wow and L2) But i cant tell my favourite, they are kind of unique T.T

I was one of the people who mentioned it xD But yeah.. the publisher who had rights for the english release didnt really care much about it since it never got the same updates as Chinese release. But I personally liked it a lot even if it was a grindfest but was a fun one with nice community(even though was small).

I played it back around 2007/8-ish, unless I'm mistaken. Yeah, played it for about a year or so and got to level 99(I shit you not) and didn't tier up. I only just got to that Sky-theme pvp area, too. The grindfest I didn't care about because I had a small group of people to hang out with and it was actually looked pretty unique. Also, the bandit hunts. Those were fun. Then there were the pets, haha.

Pets were fun ... Pets,Bonus Stats + a mount xD I was hunting more low lvl yellows with alts than bandits but my main income was from treasure hunting(do the gathering and then all the maps .. I kid you not, I knew all the locations by heart xD )

I played since closed beta (i bought the silver pack, have it on steam) and i thought it would be some kind of Ultima Online, but with new mechanics thanks to the new technologies, but besides the p2w, there was a fail thanks to all the exploits that the game had (when they released the game in eu/na , the game was alive on korea for like 2years, i think that its a lot of time to fix things) and the pooooor PvE endgame

As I said in the other thread Path of Exile. It's the only MMO that I've started playing since beta and haven't stopped (the ~800 hours played through steam are nothing since I play it mainly through the stand alone client and only used steam to get supporter packs with steam wallet).

I loved Guild Wars 2, but the friends I started playing with stopped, and I'm not really a solo MMO player or someone that makes friends in MMOs easily so I stopped as well :(. Also I don't like that the expansion is full price (also don't have the money to buy it XD). I've always wanted to play The Secret World since the quests there seem really interesting, but the combat is really meh and the b2p nature of it, made me not want it as much. XD

WoW... I think most people have played it at this point. I've wasted many years (mostly in private servers, but I'm not very proud of that time in my gaming life (pirating most stuff like the stupid kid I was)).

I'm surprised that Vindictus is not in the poll. Amazing MMO that I've had tons of fun with.

SWTOR has amazing story, probably the one MMO that I actually cared for and played for the story, but the pay2win nature of the early f2p model made me sick and deleted the game not long after lvl 25. I've heard it's better now, but I don't have the time to grind whatever they want so that I have more than 2 hotkey bars... or some other really basic stuff. Terrible F2P model!

Best F2P model I've seen to date was in Vindictus and now that GW2 is kind of F2P I can say that it too has a really good F2P model. ( Not really into Pay2Play MMOs, I dont have the money or the desire to waste them on a single game.)

Waiting to see what NA/EU Black Desert will do and if they make it into a casual MMO like KR and Russia are doing (it was amazing in the early stages in KR beta). I'm waiting for Lineage Eternal and Lost Ark. And hoping for some more Hardcore MMOs.

damn... I don't expect anyone to read this wall of text XD.

how is vindictus? I was interested in it for the physics of the source engine

I still love it, the combat system is amazing, I love the combos and how different the characters are. The only thing I hate is the IP bans around the different servers. I'm in the EU so i'm forced to play in a server that is months behind in patches ( because we have the Vindictus version where you can jump so it takes a lot longer to bring patches ).

The physics is hilarious sometimes. I still remember the first time I kicked a boss so hard with Fiona that he flew off the level XD. You should try it. It's probably still my all time favorite MMO.

I'm pretty sure every region has it's own Vindictus server at this point. EU is the worst because we have jumping and it's months behind in patches.

Ouch, yeah just saw they excluded you guys. That's just stupid... That's why I hate the Region Lock bullshit system Nexon has with Vindictus! And with Region Locks in general! I have friends in both NA and in Japan and I can't play a lot of MMOs because of their stupid region locks.

That said I think you could play Vindictus NA with VPN since it's Peer 2 Peer game. If you make your boat (quests are made by one player and joined by others) you will have no Ping at all. I played like that back in NA beta. And if you have friends using the same VPN not far from you, they shouldn't have unplayable ping. But it's still annoying and stupid that you have to do all of that to even try it >.> . But hey it's Nexon, I don't expect anything else from them at this point XD.

Lord of the Rings Online before Moria expansion... all those legedary items in Moria; those were meant to be old and powerful items but in the game almost 90% of the mobs drop something legendary and when identified: rubbish stats :D Tolkien rolled over his grave with that, I'm sure of it. Also becoming free to play later on... no no no. But I still have my memories

I don't think LoTRO made as graceful a transition to F2P as DDO. LoTRO seems to be basically unplayable for free with the huge freemium gap, while DDO is mostly just limited by content restrictions (I've seen free to players "finish" the game, though that was a long time ago), so I think Turbine must have misjudged how to transition LoTRO. That said, I have a soft spot for DDO so maybe it got hit just as hard and I have my head in the sand.

Can't say about DDO since I didn't play it (one of my friends did though) but LoTRO's F2P model is just plain awful. Yes, they tell you that you can get much for free but it isn't the case if you don't want to grind boring deeds and other stuff for multiple chars, delete them and do everything again just to get some Turbine points for the Premium shop. The expansions are just horrid... especially the lore just seems to get more and more non-Tolkien. Yes, I see you Beorning. Atleast the main game (Shadows of Angmar) was quite lore friendly and didn't invent or change things greatly.

Also the horrible lottery system for random goodies on daily logins... pffft. Advertising the ingame shop on every window, restricting players even if they used to pay monthly payments with new characters if they don't pay anymore (bag spaces, bank etc). This game used to be very nice, especially on RP servers. I enjoyed crafting, animations, scenery (first time in the Moria was nice too, even if the expansion itself turned out to be rubbish), epic Book quests, soundscape and characters. The engine looks beautiful even on today, wouldn't mind to play the main game if there were some private server but alas, no such hope.

Sorry for ranting but the game was just so close to my heart. I fell in love with LotR when I was seven or eight, read the whole book (had the collection edition) and Hobbit (haven't still read Silmarillion, maybe someday) with smile on my face. I still read LotR almost every year :)

WoW - 2005-2006, then 2008-2013. And I'm done with it. Played a lot of Star Trek Online, Star Wars The Old Republic. Cabal Online at some point. Neverwinter too.

I'm... tired of MMORPGs now. They demand too much attention I don't care to give them anymore. Now I play War Thunder(by now I mean since 2013), used to play World of Tanks too, a lot...

I'd love to play Elder Scrolls Online though. But being too poor for that, well... Maybe one day. Same for Elite Dangerous, although friend bought it and after few days of thorough play he spoke about the game in words that I dare not repeat, for fear of permban :D

So have i. Fixed using:
You need to change the resolution to windowed mode.
start the game and click "Enter" to log into the game. Click the red X on the top right corner but do not exit the game, wait 5 seconds and click "Cancel". It should spit you right into the character select screen.
