Just an off-topic thread about a subject I am pretty curious about.

I will start first. Living in Singapore, widely known as the country that bans chewing gums, canes SOBs for vandalism and hangs people for drug-related offences, censorship and banning of games are surprisingly rare.

Banned/censored games

Mass Effect - homosexuality [Ban lifted]

The Darkness - excessive violence [Ban lifted for Playstation only]

And that's it?

Some games like all GTA games cannot be bought online. All games including the ones only for 18+ can be bought in a game store, provided you show your ID.

So what are the games censored or banned in your country? Leave your comments below.

GTA series and even LA noire cannot be access on steam in thailand
also hosting SA:MP server are banned.
I cant wait for those generation to die off
(not just because a game was banned but there are many more reason for me to hope they will all be gone soon.)

Es gibt verbotene Spiele. Verboten, nicht zensiert (ja, denn Juristen lieben Semantik-Spiele). Zwar alles was "gewaltverherrlichend" ist. Nur, was das ist, das ist unklar.

Oh, und "rassistisches Nazi-Material". So wie z.B. Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Sehr rassistisch. Und nazi-istisch. Oder anders gesagt: Blödsinn.

I used to believe that games wasn't banned in Brazil, until I found several games missing in Steam without reason. There isn't a real pattern around here (i.e. violence, homosexuality bans) but each one cut out have stupid reasons (like anything else with the current government).

No censorship is permitted here, at least.

Gosh, it seems like Germany is hell. You have this stupid GEMA, lots of games banned or censored. That's horrible, I feel sorry for all German people.

By the way, that's just ridiculous that governments ban games like they're hard drugs or something really dangerous. Here in Poland we have lots of stupid laws and totally stupid politicians but at least we have freedom in matter of games, I'm pretty sure there are no banned games.

maseffect 1 had no homosexuality. the blue alien had both parts, femshep just went for the tentacle d

I guess that was the part. Female "interaction" with a vaguely female alien was stated as the reason for the brief ban. :/

She does not have both parts, the sole reason why Bioware insisted that they are not really lesbians is because they are a mono-gendered race and "we say so".

Technically: "most of them" here in China.

In reality: We have every game uncensored for all consoles and PC platforms.

In Poland there's no restrictions.
Even PEGI isn't respected. A small kid can go to shop and buy game with PEGI 18 like GTA V.

None. We don't ban games here. You can buy any game you want in most of the stores, because no one gives a damn about PEGI and that kind of stuff.

Injustice Gods Among us Ultimate Edition in Hungary. Reason: There is a DLC costume for Superman, which shows the sickle and the hammer ( Soviet Russian autocracy symbol ). For this f*ckin 1 DLC costume WB refused to sell the game in Hungary. And Steam doesn't list it either.

Actually Superman: Red Son (this) was one of the very few DC comics I enjoyed... is that one banned/censored too?

1 decade ago
Permalink

Yes it's that costume. Instead of cutting that one out for us, WB refuses selling in Hungary

I think the closest we got was Manhunt being rated R instead of M, it wasn't an outright ban or anything but it severely limited how it could be sold iirc.

Manhunt: Banned because of high impact scary violence and cruelty.
Manhunt 2: Banned for "gross, unrelenting, and gratuitous violence."
Postal 2: Banned because of gory violence.
Reservoir Dogs: Banned because of high impact violence and cruelty.
^ Taken from Wikipedia. I thought it was only the Manhunt series for us kiwis!
