When the 10th Doctor regenerated, I almost cried my lungs out. I wanted so much to hate Matt Smith and see him as the worst actor to ever play The Doctor. But I just couldn't. I gradually started warming up to him more and more, even though there was no way I could ever see him as a worthy successor to the absolutely magnificent David Tennant. I looked forward to his eventual regeneration since season 5 and now that it's happened, I'm in shock. I never would have thought back then, I'd ever miss him. BUT I DO!!!!

Because Peter Capaldi SUCKS. Really...he's not witty, he's not funny, he's not charismatic, he's just an annoying douche-bag.
I don't mind The Doctor being a lot more dark and not a flirty, charming pretty boy. It was actually about time for a darker tone. But I do fucking mind him being boring and uninteresting. And I sure as hell mind an episode of Dr. Who which couldn't even make me smile...

For the record, I have nothing against Peter Capaldi himself. His character is just badly written, I blame Steven Moffat. So who else thinks The New Doctor Who sucks 20 levels of ass? Hope I'm not the only one. That would make me even sadder..

i enjoyed the episode, ill wait till 2015 to venture an opinion on whether i like capaldi compared to other doctors, i doubt he'll displace colin baker as my least favourite doctor though(nothing against the guy and i probably blame his short tenure and crappy material to work with for my not caring for his run more than the man himself), dont watch if you dont like it and im sure he'll regenerate in a couple of years perhaps to somone more to your liking

Imagine the late great Jeremy Brett as the Doctor...that would have been monumental.

Capaldi is far closer to the Doctors of old than any of the New Who (even Matt Smith, who did an excellent job of incorporating various mannerisms and quirks of the Classic Who).

If you were a fan of Doctor Who before the 2005 reboot (regeneration?), you'll probably like Capaldi.

If you're a recent convert, you'll probably dislike Capaldi, as he doesn't fit the mold of the New Who.

(Anyone else reminded of the third Doctor? No? Am I the only old person on the Interwebs?)

When he looked under the bed I thought he was going to ask where his shoes were....then he got chaulk....

But yeah I'm a recent convert but holy shut I've sucked up as much of classic who and the Novels and audio plays as I can absorb. I definitely love Capaldi buuuut I also can say I love all the Doctors a lot for different reasons

I honestly have only watched one of the new (reboot) episodes. Watched the classics on PBS when I was much younger. My only thoughts to how the Doctor fans nowadays behave is that it's childish, and I would probably not like the show at all because "Oooooooo, he's soooooo pretty, and funny, and he's a Doctor, lolamirite? C'mon guys, you so totes have to watch it! The bad guys are adorable!" This is science fiction, bitches. Do you even Asimov?

But I digress. I really haven't given the show a chance (as no netflix) and have no idea what they've done with (for example) the Daleks. Guess I'll see about watching it a bit more, but my current expectations are essentially "it's a sort of Twilight for (tom)boys."

Actually shit it dawned on me the eyebrows today too. Maybe Capaldi is in for a trip to Delphon?

I actually think he most closely resembles the third Doctor... It's too bad The Brigadier isn't around anymore, I'd love to see Capaldi interact with him to get a real sense of how close 3 and 13 (yes, 13... Hurt counts, dammit!) are.

it's true, DW might seem like an giant dick, he left clara!, he left clara!, even he returned, that was really a dick move, but I also remember some scenes from the adventure in space and time and the first doctor was very depicable, then the 9th doctor even said something like: I brought another stinky monkey aboard, i don't remember the quote. And it has been only 1 episode. I felt a lot of flaws since S5 with smith, but then regained ALL my love when the big bang 2 happened, and since I loved Smith. So give S8 a chance if you don't like it at all, there are plenty of other tv series to watch, I haven't seen supernatural and its fandom is compared as potter, who and sherlock. Then also try animation I love the southpark and looney tunes. You can also check like the previous 50 years of DW.

Nope. No way. I myself loved both Chris Eccleston and David Tenant from minute 1. As for Matt Smith, I wanted him to suck balls, sure, but he did not. He was quite god from the very start, despite my(and almost everyone's else who watched the show) predictions that this series would crash and burn with him starring in it. In Capaldi's case it was quite the opposite. I wanted to like him and I was quite glad he was older(as I'm not an idiotic tween). But then he started speaking and acting and it all fell apart.

My favorite so far's been Eccleston and the War Doctor. Matt Smith's probably my least favorite from New Who. Guess it just depends on what sort of Doctor you like. That said, I am reserving judgement on the new Doctor. I'm having some trouble figuring out how much of what we saw is post-regeneration sickness weirdness and how much is the new Doctor.

I think part of it's the focus on Clara's reaction--which I find a bit off putting. It's one thing for Rose to freak-after all the Doctor never even mentioned regeneration to her-but Clara's been in a room with THREE of them it still takes her the whole episode to get over if-if she even has.

1st half of the episode -- felt like neither the actors or director knew where they were going with the character
2nd half of the episode (roughly -- there was a definite turning point for me) -- felt like the actor I'm used to seeing had finally figured out what he was doing with the character

I like Peter Capaldi (as an actor) already. He isn't new to me. And to me, the first half just seemed... awkward. Maybe some of that was intentional, but it didn't feel like it.

Funnily enough, of all the doctors (I've watched them all), he reminds me most of David Tennant's so far (although the costuming is more reminiscent of the 3rd).

Haven't followed Doctor Who after the first season of Matt Smith. Just missed the season start and didn't really want to jump into the middle, in particular since I didn't like Matt Smith's Doctor that much anyway. So if this one seems worse and not funny, I guess I'll keep away. I still have the comics from Humble to read and the adventure games from Groupees, so it's not like I'm completely Doctor-free.

Uhm, I have seen only one episode of the new one. No offense but I don't like stories like this about something sci-fi or what with a visual effects like this. I mean, when I was a child, I watched a neverending story. Not the original one but some kind of soap opera and it was on the same level of quality like doctor who (even with story and actors behaviour)..
Sorry for my bad english and I don't want to insult anyone.

It's worth it. Start with Eccleston and work your way in from there.
Cheesy comedic sci-fi with bits of dark stuff rolled in.

He had a better start than Matt in my opinion. i realy had to get used to Matt when he started, probably because of David being so awsome in the role. but heck this new Doctor is awsome in my world and could be #2

I'm very glad that you started this thread masteryoda120988. I wanted to wait till the season unfolded to see where the writers were going with the story line. Like many others who have posted already, I figured that I would warm up to the new Doctor and that the writers would develop the relationships and intricate storyline... nope! This Doctor is written as a grumpy old man with no sense of humor or levity (word of the day 'levity'), and the only character worth watching the show for is Clara. Other than that I have lost all interest in the show. I think that Capaldi is a great actor and I believe that one of the postings stated it correctly that it is the writing that is poor and not the acting. He has nothing to truly work with. They are writing the new Doctor as a miserable mess of a being who is having a mid-eternity crisis or something of the sort. I watched behind the scenes footage prior to the season starting and Capaldi stated he would only do the show if they wrote the relation between Clara and the Doctor as a father/daughter relationship. I think that is what is causing the writers to crap out in their attempt to make this season interesting. Plus the storyline is boring. (Spoiler Alert) The season finale with The Master as a woman was a little predictable, well, it was predictable for me at the beginning of the episode at least when she did the heart thing. They made The Doctor seem stupid. He feels 2 hearts and doesn't have a clue that this robot isn't a robot for starters and secondly that this person may be a Timelord... really? It seems the writers are stretching for the dramatic at the cost of common sense and staying true to the characters. When they did this it made The Doctor seem like an idiot which all previous versions were not. I'm really disappointed and not sure if I will bother watching next season, which makes me really sad. I loved this show and each version of The Doctor since the restart in 2005. To this day my wife and I still joke around saying "Are you my mommy?" That show was so simplistic but it creeped me out. lol

I don't believe it's Peter Capaldis fault, he is a great actor but he's only able to do whats in the script. If the script says he's grumpy...he is grumpy.

So blame the writers for this season, not Peter Capaldi.

So very much true.

Capaldi is great, and his Doctor is great, even though absolutely different from 10 and 11.

But the stories in this season are mostly just bland and boring.

Best Doctor in the renewed series - John Hurt.

The Doctor is fine, I hate Clara because her stories are boring and her character is whiny..
I wish they'd have switched Donna Noble and Clara as companions.

Catherine Tate + Peter Capaldi would be hilarious.. (and less awkward/forced)

Major Balls is a great character, honorable man and happy husband, I don't see how he would allow Doctor to suck him.
