While rejection sucks, what sucks more is trying to cling to a relationship you built with forced conversation. If you want to be together in any way, she needs to take you for who you are.

No it's not. We guys often approach girls with a binary mindset: either she will be my girlfriend or theres' no point in approaching her.

Like Uroboros says, start a conversation with no expectations. Then, the worst case scenario is nothing happens. Maybe you get a new acquaintance or even a friend.
