Today, I decided that I wanted to update my iPhone 4s to IOS 8.1 to get some apps. The update downloaded to my device, and then continued to install. I clicked install now, and my phone turned off...and then would not turn on again. It finally turned on, however the service would not work and I could not make any phone calls. I decided to try and install the update again, and now my phone is stuck in the "connect to iTunes" screen. My data is not backed up, and I am extremely afraid that I will lose EVERYTHING. I have countless images and recordings that I need to save. I've tried downloading various programs on my mac, but none of them are working to exit recovery mode.

Please somebody help me. I can't afford another phone right now, and more importantly, I need to get this data back.

Oh god why didnt you backup before updating the system? Especially updating "old" phone to a "recent" (and thus buggy) system!
The phone can be saved, recovery mode and that stuff. I don't know about photos / videos / recordings however :<

It's "Siri, Help...Please!", not "iPhone Help...Please!".

Data is lost. Maybe you can make the phone work with some factory reset.

Well you got two options:
Try to turn it off for a couple hours (will not work and you'll be crying while waiting to work)
Reset & check if iTunes got anything saved (mine does automatic backups!)
Good luck and you can always start over and get new stuff? :D
Think positive!

No, I'm pretty sure that it comes from a meme generator.

I hope you can recover your stuff but next time do a backup, don't update an old model to the most recent and bugged OS version and consider buying yourself a better phone with more liberty to solve this kinda of stuff

it should backup everything on icloud, check the website, and see if your stuff is there, don't panic there are ways to restore your phone, you need to look for a solution online, try on a mac releated forum, they might know more then we do :)

If you plugged into iTunes to update, I think it would have backed up everything right before it attempted the update. Then just plug it in again and follow the instructions and select the back up file.
If you just did OTA... not sure what to do. Go to the nearest Apple store?

I don't know much about iPhones but can't you just connect your phone to your pc and copy the data to your pc, at least your photos and videos?

No you can't just connect an iPhone to PC, cuz it's Apple.

Well there are some apps, since it's doesn't work like on Windows, just by plugging in, I don't know if he needs to have the apps from both sides or just from iMac.

You actually need to go through iTunes for everything, unlike a phone from any other brand where you can just plug it in and copy your data manually.

And if iTunes decides it doesn't recognize your phone, then you're screwed. One of the many reasons I hate Apple and their products. The one time I've had a phone die on me (due to water damage) I just took the SD card and put it in my new phone and voilà, data transferred.
