Nope, there are better places for that then a site devoted to giving away games.
Seems to me it goes against the entire purpose of the site.
If you want to sell or trade a game that's fine but you should probably do it somewhere intended for that purpose.

No! I mean there are special sites for trading (reddit,...) and this is a site for giving. Its Steamgifts not Steamtrade!

Trading, HOWEVER. To trade games there has to be a RIGEROUS verification process in place to prevent scamming. For instance, "Verified" People(Them being people that have successfully traded game(s) and have that verified). Never go first, as they are already trusted.
Something like that. Buying/Selling seems too risque for me.

That's silly. Why not a "Trade at your own risk warning."
"The Moderators will not get involved. You need to work out the problems/issues with the other party on your own. Remember, you are trading at your own risk! We are unable to enforce any sanctions or force a user to act since we do not monitor nor endorse this activity. Further, we cannot guarantee that administrative sanctions will occur as a result of abuse without positive proof."
Or something similar.

I think there is nothing wrong with it. Sure, "steamgifts is not steamtrade" as metalmanijak said, but no one said this is going to be the main point of the site. There could be a separate post/forum section on this.... However, there is the possibility that people may turn selfish and attempt to use the site just for trading (unlikely from a community that is invite only, but there were some random invites given in the past, so can't be sure) or there might be scamming as Moose said. Maybe we can have a sticky in the forum directing all people looking to trade their gifts to the parent site steamgamesales' trade section? That would both help those that wish to trade and also prevent the site's forums from having a trade section (though I find nothing wrong with that personally, but others might/do)... However, bear in mind that since this site is invite only and sgs is open to all, the risk of scamming is much higher on sgs that sg; anyone can just open an alt account for scamming on steam and get a username on sgs. Not so for sg.... Just food for thought...

I personally wouldn't mind, but the arguments against it seem strong.

Trades will decrease the gifts as gifters might want to get a bot more than a "Thank you" for their extra copies...

I've recently tried to add a bit a "flavo(u)r" to my giveaways and it has been a big success for me... personally, anyhow.
I do, however, agree that trades may decrease the amount of gifts available as some people will find it more beneficial to trade their "gifts" for games they don't already own. Afterall, that does seem like a better deal than just giving away a game randomly with no "reward."
That said, I'd be happy to have a trading forum on the site. The caveat is that it comes wholly on the idea that the more benevolent members will still provide giveaways, while some folk simply don't want to flood the site with spam keys, Humble Bundles, or ill-gotten DLC keys. All in high hopes, though.
Edit: I giveaway games because I find it thrilling, recipe-rewarding, and it just feels damn good.

if am correct trading steam gifts is against steam's rules.

true, TRADING is illegal. However, gifting a game while getting a gift back seems to be O.K. as it is not trading when there is no transfer of money involved... Seems like "trading" refers to circumventing steams payment system by buying games cheap and then selling them for profit. I asked a forums mod about it, and this was what he said. Guess steam support maybe a better addressee to this question but then again you do get varying answers from those guys too...

It's not illegal, but grey line in terms steam policies. Trading will very likely not affect your account, but don't expect Valve to help you if you get scammed. Honestly Valve has bigger problems than people trading extra copies. If someone starts buying in bulk and reselling for cash, then I could see them stepping in.
After all the point of buying packs on steam is to give them to your friends, and it would be naive to think money isn't being pooled - or games traded - for those purchases.

Surely, "not doing shady things" is not a problem??

I wouldn't mind all that, as long as it's in a sub-forum and doesn't clutter the part of the forums, which is devoted to Steamgifts.
Since I'm already at it, a "subscribe to thread" and a "show threads with unread posts" feature would be great as well.

No. and I don't want a new level of scams that the mods have to look out for and police. There are better sites for it.
People will just fill up the forums looking for trades instead of gifting (although I know a median amount will still gift willingly)

Title says most of it. Want people posing what they have to trade, etc?
