You have never, made a great statement - intent on telling people, those who do not understand, the errors of their ways? Perhaps, I should make my subtle jokes, less subtle.

I had known coming into this that my statement would be sanctimonious and therefore opted to make it as Kirk as I could, I really expected people to still remember who Shatner was and pick up on it.
I figured, "hell, if I am going to be Kirk to the stupid aliens, I may as well do my best at it."

While I agree that what those people did is sad and pathetic, I must say, I hate how vague and pretentious these topics are. Just say it like it is: Assholes (probably Russian assholes, let's be honest(I'm Russian, I can say that)) started begging GLAPOS (I assume we're talking about him) for games (probably Modern Warfare 3), he got fed up and left.
Why can't he use his steam account though?

A constant barrage of friend requests spamming him.

The first sentence is good, nobody should harass admins or people that are giving away games, or anyone for that matter. The rest of your post just looks like filler to me though and looks like you are jumping on the bandwagon of posting anti-hate and similar topics.

Or a friend got bothered so much by a bunch of jackasses that I felt like telling you morons to back the fuck off because you're not entitled to sweet dick all.
I just didn't want to word it that way.

Vague statements followed by attacking and swearing to anyone that doesn't agree... very mature.

I think you're kind of preaching to the choir. While there are jerks on the forum and chat, the majority of douchebag behavior is from the other 9000 members of the site that aren't active in the community.
But yes, it's lame.
And while I imagine a lot of the friend requests are tools begging for games, some of it might just be people sending a friend request just to friend request. He's a well known and well liked poster, much like the how the more active mods likely get friend requests from various members of the site, even if they don't interact much.

Maybe there should be an option to keep your giveaway anonymous to all but mods and the winner? Nobody else needs to know who's giving it. It shouldn't be necessary, but if there are people like this then maybe it would offer a measure of protection to especially generous members.

I've implemented a simple system that let's me avoid most of these "harassers" - Add a note to your Steam Profile saying "I won't accept your Friend request unless you add a comment below" (make sure your permissions are set so non-friends can comment). This one little line has caused me to ignore 90% of the friend requests that come to me, but if somebody isn't going to take the effort to read my Steam profile then I don't want to talk to them.
Anyway, yes; this is a problem and it's not acceptable, however it's a problem that we cannot easily get rid of. A site such as this, which thrives off of generosity, always attracts those that what to try their luck at blagging a free game.
My suggestion for anybody having these "problems" is implement my little "No-comment no-friend" rule, and if you're being harassed on Steam Community then report that person via their profile - people can and do get banned from Steam Community (not their Steam account) for harass other users.

Hey now! Sorry for the confusion. I am taking a break because I need to focus on a few other things. Sorry for the trouble. Personally I don’t mind the friend requests. We all need friends :(. Sometimes it is just people wanting to say thanks. Mostly people wanting games :P. Steam is the new omegle for me. Except people don't disconnect when I say I am a robot :(.
I don’t mind getting random friend requests but I know there are a lot of other people who do and don’t like it. So please be courteous!! If you don't know if someone will be okay if you ask for games (which it is never okay to beg for games) just beat Diablo 3 for the answer.
Be nice! GAME ON! It is the weekend hope you all have a good weekend! ( OMG OMG TROPICO 4 IS ALMOST HERE OMG OMG!) NEVER GIVE UP, NEVER SURRENDER !!

Good to hear you're taking break a GLaPO, but I am still quite riled by these peoples actions. The fact is, people need to take more responsibility for who they're inviting. I cannot solve the problem, but I should at least draw attention to any eyes I can to the fact that they should only invite people they'd want to have come over to their house.
Cause this kind of stuff is beyond ridiculous.

When will people learn that robots make the best of friends~

I just realised with a some modification and a little knowledge of biology it could be turned into a bit of a sexist joke.
(Though it might take a stretch to make it work)

I was contributing early on... and yes the constant barrage of friend requests with a small percentage (I'm sure it would be higher now with > 300 members) was insanely annoying.
Half of the giveaways now turn out to be "fake" in some way, the other half are won but then have an attempt to be intercepted by assholes, a large number of this forum are quite nice, the other portion are still wondering "WHY HAVEN'T I WON YET?"
This site was great, could be great, but it really is just getting more and more frustrating with each visit. I'm seeing more and more people "selling" invites in TF2 for special items. I'm quite certain those that are "buying" their invites won't be the good type of Steamgifts member just as those that are selling it.
Not much you can do about it really... people are dicks and people on the internet are the ultimate dicks. It's a shame.
/doom and gloom.

I am contemplating pressing cg regarding a reboot in the future...
After moderation tools have been hammered out and site functionality is smoother. I'd say that anyone who has contributed would be easily deserving of a new invite - that way the best from this community seed the rebooted community, a great flood, if you will, to wash away the more unpleasant elements. And I don't mean just people who have made giveaways - I mean contributed. The people who always thank people for the giveaways they enter, the people who regular the chat and forum... They've contributed as well.
The rebooted site would need one thing above all, "you invite a person who is confirmed to be a scammer, spammer, or absolute bastard and you will be booted right along with them." As it is, people do not really care who they bring in, and I have always believed otherwise.
cg may be open to it if this kind of self-destruction continues on, who knows?

I don't know what it is with gamers lately, but people feel a sense of entitlement. That they are entitled to games, or to gifts of some kind.
You aren't entitled to anything.
No one here owes you anything.
Just because someone creates giveaways doesn't mean that they always will. And it sure as hell doesn't mean that they will give you something if you ask. And you shouldn't ask. Asking implies that you are entitled to get it, that you deserve it. When you were a kid and asked your parents for a toy, or a certain cereal or something, did you always get it? The answer should be no. If the answer is yes then you're parents failed you. You have to work for things in your life, things aren't just handed to you because you exist and you asked, which is what our parents teach us by doing that.
You work for it, you earn it.
People shouldn't send friend requests to users from here simply because they've created a giveaway before and you want to ask them to buy you something. That's not how the world works. And it pisses me off that people still haven't figured that out.
Unrelated: You started your message with "Gentlemen". So us ladies don't count? :(

Gentlemen, it has been brought to my attention that people from this site have been harassing not only the staff, but also the kind people who put their own money into giving away games...
This, is unacceptable - no, it's worse, it's reprehensible. It is not a right to be here, you are here at the behest of good men with good intentions, what you do not only sullies that, but sours the opinions of the people who are doing nothing but good.
I have spoken with a good man, a man who, because of this site's involvement in his life, may not use his Steam profile any more.
If this childish, greedy, despicable behaviour continues, this site will not work.
This is supposed to be a site where a group of like minded, friendly, kind people share the games they like with one another. These jackals have harried a person away, chasing someone who, in my opinion, holds a place at the top of the community for their giving nature.
For shame, each and every one of you need to take a serious look at the people you are allowing into this community, you're not just letting in a buddy who is a bit of a jerk, or a kid who wants free stuff, you're letting in poisonous, noxious elements which will kill this community.
Do not take this lightly - this is not the golden eggs being laid, this is the roast goose you're dealing with.
