“NOTE: Players who currently own Don't Starve on Steam will get Don't Starve Together for free when it exits Early-Access. During Early-Access, current owners of Don't Starve get 2 copies of Don't Starve Together through the Frontier Pack at 75% off."
It's an old news

To all people above saying it's old news: what we didn't know is WHEN we were going to receive Don't Starve Together if we already had Don't Starve. Now we know the release date, and the deadline to receive "free" extra copies of DS Together by buying DS. That is new news :P
PS: Unless they do another sale this month, it seems last week's sale was also the last chance to buy the Frontier Pack (DS+ 2 copies of DS Together) really cheap :/

What I wondered since the start of this deal is what happens to the people that bought DST or frontier pack if they already owned DS.
Will they get a gift copy of DST in their inventory? Or what?

But what about the part of:
Store steam
"Buy Don't Starve Together
Includes an extra copy of Don't Starve Together. Send it to a friend!"
Shouldn't they include an extra copy for you to gift taking into account that THAT's one of the main concerns of the "play together" pack?

Probably best at this point in time. There have been several incidents where keys bought from grey market sellers have been revoked recently, and chances are that they'll really start to crack down on people buying stolen keys/keys bought with stolen credit cards soon, to set an example.

Thank you for explaining it to me :)
I'm still a bit fearful of trading as there is a possibility for it to go wrong (I just have the worst luck) so I mostly wait for the games I want to get bundled or go on a huge sale somewhere.
Hopefully, some day I'll give it a go and I'll know a bit of what I'm doing thanks to you <3

As long as you do an actual trade using the steam trade interface, it should be safe (but you need to plan ahead, as you need to wait a week before you can trade keys that you've bought). Trading keys for game keys is always risky though. Personally I've stopped trading, as long as no-one I know is safe actually asks me to do a trade, not because I got scammed, but because it was so much work actually figuring out who's trustworthy and who's not. Every time I posted a trade offer, it felt like I got 5 scammers for everyone who actually were interested in doing an honest trade (and they almost always tried to impersonate some other well known trader). And actually saying "no, I don't want to trade with you" never felt good, due to the off-chance of them actually not being a scammer.

Does it matter where we buy the game from? Because after activating the HB key, it showed up as Don't Starve 3rd party redeem. So, I'll still get DST on the 3rd right? It won't be a problem, right? Maybe I'm being uselessly paranoid. Right?

Wow, that was quite a quick response. Thanks for your help!

Discrimination, I am Master of the Universe! I deserve all games!

I bought it already, because i love the game and wanted to support the devs.... who cares if i could get it free... i knew that when i paid for it...... the game is cheap, its fun to play, and well worth your money...... instead of griping.... go buy it, but it all..... it is money well spent.

bump with fresh info: "If you bought Don't Starve on gog.com, send us an email with the key you got from gog.com and we will give you a steam key."

I guess we should look into steamdb, if there are some new and old Don't Starve versions, but you should be right - at least that's how keys work, according to http://steamcommunity.com/games/219740/announcements/detail/120815979558708987

Wouldn't be so sure, there are tons of games that have different entries for cd-keys and steam-bought-copies (can't say if all have that).
Anyway, I checked and there are two (actually, there's more, but they are different versions of same copy, most of a times...) different Don't Starves on Steam. New one is this: https://steamdb.info/sub/67579/apps/, while old ones are like this: https://steamdb.info/sub/28478/apps/ .

Long story: http://forums.kleientertainment.com/topic/53413-dont-starve-together-floodgates-are-opening-soon/
TL; DR: "We can now confirm that Don’t Starve owners will be gifted Don’t Starve Together on June 3, 2015. (...) This means that June 2nd, will be the last day to qualify to receive Don’t Starve Together by purchasing Don’t Starve".
