Do you know how to cook?
Pretty simple thing actually... Spaghetti Bolognese and not out of a jar.
Today was just baked potato, fish and veggies.
When they say they can't cook, they haven't actually tried, as in took a recipe for something very simple and followed it properly. If you can read the instructions on a packet, you can cook. Lesson learned by a guy I went to university with. We were doing our Master's. For most people, this was their 5th year in uni. He was eating Pot Noodle every day. We were like "do you not get tired of eating those?" "Oh I can't cook, I have one for lunch, one for dinner and cereal for breakfast." Like... FFS. Maybe he was living at home during his degree and mommy cooked for him. One of the older ladies on the course was like... "Here's a list, go shopping and we'll come over and show you how to make something." He was like "didn't realise it was that easy." I mean... come on. Recipe says to put at x temperature and to stir for x number of minutes or whatever it is, just do it. You don't have to go for complicated things. After that, he was bringing in his own home cooked lunches. Not rocket science. lol.
You know, I am not a fan of potatoes in general, but they are nice fried on the pan with onions. People who say they had fried potatoes made me hungry. XD.

Cooking was never one of my strengths lol I can BBQ like a boss, but a stove just messes me up somehow lol I can make a couple simple things though. Last thing I made was some spaghetti with (surprisingly lol) homegrown and homemade sauce. I even grew some of the herbs in it. Wasnt too bad actually considering Ive been known to burn soup so... But man... that sauce was AMAZING. I had meatballs too, local grown and slaughtered beef, but the real show was in the sauce imo, though I may be biased :D

There's another thing you can make if you have a lot of tomatoes coming in and not a lot of time. Pasta Margherita just basically entails quickly sauteing chunks of fresh tomato, garlic and basil in olive oil and mixing it into your choice of pasta along with some parmesan and/or fresh mozzarella. It's amazingly tasty for such a fast, simple meal.

I made beans and greens, which is basically Italian. Cannellini beans (no cans, soaked and pressure cooked tastes much better), chicken stock, garlic, olive oil, oregano, red pepper, anchovy for savory and salt (I used a little fish sauce), lemon zest and fresh Swiss chard from my garden. Topped it with fried/carmelized bits of linguica sausage with thin pieces of garlic rubbed ciabatta toast on the side.
Very ease recipe for anyone to make. Chef John taught me how.

Last night, I made a great pizza. The base was made of cauliflower, eggs, cheesee and some spices. For the topping I cooked my own tomato sauce from scratch, cheesee, sliced green peppers, onions and mushrooms. Usually add some diced bacon but I run out of it.

Ah yeah I've seen that one. It's pretty close to the Anovas I have.
It was stupid easy to use and I'm hyped to do it again soon
I know, right? and it's also awesome in the summer when I don't want to get the apartment too hot to cook stuff that takes longer. It works for so many things too. I've done everything from the cheapest chicken and romemary potato confit to pricey lobster and scallops. Have fun!

So jealous of people who can grow their own tomatoes! My balcony is full sunlight (scorching really) from 10am to 4pm and pretty much total dark before and after so my best efforts have remained fruitless, which is a shame considering the bland plastic crap that's being sold as "tomatoes" these days even in the full season. If I had a house, my garden would have more tomatoes, salads and herbs than flowers!

Kinda same balcony situation here, got sunlight from noon to 6pm. I don't know why but I somehow torture myself every year with my plants - hardly any of them will grow properly. Got several old varieties of tomatoes but their fruits always spoil before they grow bigger or ripen. The only one that actually bears edible fruits is a cherry tomato. I don't even need a house, just want a big garden.

Heh yeah I always say I'm fine with a small apartment if I have a nice kitchen and a garage to put a couple of extra fridges to cure stuff and stock condiments.
There are actually public gardens here in Paris. You can apply for a small lot to grow whatever you want. Of course, I applied 5 years ago and I'm still on the waiting list...

Cooking isn't that hard, but I tend to do it for my taste only. Good thing about it: I love it ; bad thing: few people will truly appreciate it. To clarify: I abuse salt, pepper, and anything hot.
Haven't cooked in a while though, but I do specialize in scrambled eggs, and omelettes.

The last meal I cooked from scratch (not for work) was brunch last Sunday. That's what happens when you cook for a living: you have no time to cook for yourself and when you do, you really don't want to :P
I made orange glazed duck tacos with an espresso bacon jam, avocado crema and a cherry pico de gallo.

I cook eggs for breakfast a couple of times a week. I also try to cook something nice for dinner at least once a week. I don't really do anything fancy, I'll bake or grill a fish filet or a chicken breast and steam some vegetables to go with it.

You flexing on us with those cooking skills :P
I sauteed vegetables today, does that count? lol

What's the latest meal you've prepared from scratch?
(using spice mixes, sauces and similar additions is okay; using frozen pre-made foods doesn't count).
For me, it was yesterdays lunch, it was pork with vegetables and rice in some garlic sauce. It was nice.
