The date of December 21, 2012, is not based on Mayan 'years'. It is based on the total accumulation of days since the beginning of the Mayan calendar. Leap year has 0 impact on that: you just start at the beginning of the calendar and count forward in days. Granted, the whole thing is a load of hokum, but saying "it's not real because they didn't count leap years" is false. It's not real for a variety of other reasons, but leap years is not one of them.
