So [I really do try to only enter to win games that I have on my wishlist. I haven't always done that but it is my modus operandi now. I have won some real crap games but some great ones too. I was just curious to see peoples opinions.

If you give away a game how long do you expect the winner to play the game?

View Results
Doesn't matter to me.
At least start it up.
It better be longer than just card farming.
To completion would be best.
Another pointless poll, ugh

Depends on the game ... it was some bundle shit that i couldnt even be bother to activate my self and threw away here ... i wouldnt really expect anyone to bother touching it either.

If it was some nice game , i would be happy if the guy who won it would at least give it a shot

^ this x 100

actually I've accounted for that putting all the bundled shit that I couldn't activate myself in low level public GA's and everything that I think is good (I may not like it due to tastes but conceptually its good or maybe I just don't have enough time) in playing appreciated

Are you crazy, don't let people know you didn't like Witcher series or you will be thrown into the blacklist abyss 🙀
Nothing to see here, praise Geralt! ଲ₍⸍⸌̣ʷ̣̫⸍̣⸌₎ଲ

Is not the serie, loved the first one, but the second one.... i tried 2 times, one "vanilla" and the second time with some mods, but after errors or uninteresting/werid game mechanics, i dropped it twice (not lucky/rich enough to talk about the 3rd one :p)

Honestly you wont miss much by skipping the 2nd game and jump on the 3rd one. Yes, you can import a save but it wont change much.

I loved first and third, second though i hated so i did what any self respecting pc gamer would do. I downloaded a god mode mod and enjoyed the story built the save.

Same, I really liked the 1 (not sure I finished it though, but I must have been at least fairly close), and the 3 seems amazing (haven't had the occasion to play it yet, but I watched a few streams). But the 2... Ugh :x

I didn't like the 1st one at all, but I loved the 2nd one. Obviously, I fell in love with the 3rd one too. xD

I expect them to at least try the game, maybe they don't like it after all so I don't mind if they played for 15 minutes or something.
One of the reasons why lately I haven't been entering that many givevaways, I don't have the time to play them at the moment if I do win. (Unless it's a game I really want :P )

I win quite a lot, sometimes i end up stacking them but i still do play some of the once i win.
Verde Station, a game i won 4 weeks ago. I just played it today, completed it but NO FUCKING IDEA! what the game was about, litterly xD
Maybe because the puzzle to end the game was soo fucking simple that i litterly guessed it on my 1st try so i skipped parts of the game or something along those lines

I don't care whether my games get played or not. Considering the amount of giveaways that occur here, chances are you're going to win something else and completely forget what you've won.

For however long they find it entertaining.

I'd like them to at least try it, be it for ten minutes or ten hours. If you don't like it, fair enough, but if you don't start it up then I feel like someone else who wanted it could have had a go.

That said, I completely forgot about a game I won until recently and only ended up playing it about three months after I won it. Oops!

I've also won a game that worked for the first play but next time I tried to start it I got a black screen and I haven't been able to work out why. So if the person who gave it to me was to check, it would look like I haven't played much of it at all. But I tried!

For public GAs, I don't care. I know most of them will be farmed or ignored.
For group GAs, I expect people will use restraint and only enter for games they want to play. So, longer than card farming.

i expect people to play them, not to farm cards.
to all those idlers on sg, just beg in the street if you want money, don't leech games from others that could be interested in playing them because you want 15 cents worth of cards and a shiny +1 in your library. it's sad and stupid. 😑

i also got stuck with some games that are awful (greedy beginings on sg, happens to most people i suppose), just don't sweat too much if you don't like some of your wins. maybe you could give them a try and see if there's something you like, i did that with several of my wins and even managed to finish them. 😁

Game-dependent.
Whenever I post a public giveaway, I pretty much accept the fact that the game will never be played beyond card-farming.
For a large group I post giveaways for, the same.
For the HOG group I post HOGs for, they better well damn play the game if they joined a group dedicated to them!
For the other groups, I half-accept that I am throwing some decent titles among some collectors, including some really hardcore hoarders.
For the invite-only ones I reserve for some of the nice threads here (peace, giveback, positivity), I really well damn hope they are played, since I am carefully putting together the games in hopes to find some people who'd really want to play them. Whenever I see one of them just sitting there untouched, my heart sinks a bit. (Especially since those are the games I actually sink real money on.) =(

It's cool to see people play the games you gave them, but I can't be upset if they don't. I've played very few games that I've won so it'd be very hypocritical of me to hold them to a standard that I don't hold myself to.

Depends on the game. If I give away some decent game, I expect you to at least want to try it. I won't check if you do, and I won't blacklist you for not playing games you've won from me, and I totally understand that there are some cases where one can simply not play a game they've won (limited internet connection, no storage space, computer specs not up to par, etc).

Basically, I just wouldn't want a good game to go to someone who just enters giveaways for the heck of a so-called "digital collection" or some bullshit. Otherwise, all good. My bundled giveaways are just a way for me to cope and justify my leeching by lying to myself that I'm giving back to the community for what I've won. It's all a lie. ;_;

But yeah, if someone tried playing a won game, and even came back to me to say "Hey, I tried playing this game, and I would have liked to enjoy it, but I just don't", I'd be totally fine with that. I've won games I couldn't play. Just not my kind of game, and I always enter for games I really really want (unless the giver requested my entry for one reason or another). :P

At one point I noticed, that I had a bunch of games in my library, games I have never played before.
So, a few weeks ago, I decided to try every game at least once and write a short review of the experience. Every game, even the bundled a dollar point and click garbage. It's a nice way to spend a few hours/minutes of your week. So far, I've tried around 15 and two games actually surprised me, so it was worth it on the whole, I think.

When someone wins a game from me and after the usual checks the moment I send the game to them it's not my game anymore but their game. If they play the game I'm good, if they don't play the game I'm also good as long that in both cases they follow the real and documented SG rules like for example activating the games on their own Steam account within 7 days.

Tl DR: I'm good either way. ^^

Unbundled games - yes, don't enter to +1 your library and farm cards. It's rude to the people who actually want to play the game.

Bundled games - don't particularly care.

Depends on where I'm giving it.

  • With publics I have absolutely no expectations, I know in most cases it'll just be card farmed and thrown into oblivion.
  • With forum only, I also have no expectations but I hope it'll be given a try. Usually it doesn't though.
  • If I'm giving it in a group there I have some more expectations, I'm only part of 4 after all, one of which has a rule that games won in it have to be played and another that is comprised of members that are actively trying to "assassinate" their backlog, and another focused on a specific genre, think I painted a good enough picture without naming names :P Still I don't expect it to be played 100% of the time, especially with that one group for people with few wins :P
  • If it's a whitelist giveaway I almost absolutely expect it to be played. I'm keeping my whitelist small exactly for that reason, so the people on it have a good chance to win a game they actually want to play.

Also don't sweat the bad games, a good portion of us started like that and decided to change our ways later. It's rather common. Or fall into the ratio groups with mandatory monthly GAs pitfall where you feel you "need" to win just to even it out and not "lose out". I cringe at myself every time I think of myself back then ._.
