Hello,

yesterday I clicked in the Origin icon in my desktop; it asked me for installing some updates and I chose yes, but it never opened. Now, I am trying to open it but absolute nothing happens; double click and thenโ€ฆ nothing at all.

I looked for it in the task manager (windows 7), but there is nothing about Origin. What can I do for solve this?

Thanks!

UPDATE: Well, that's weird. I uninstalled Origin and installed it again, updated it and I have the same problem. It doesn't open.

UPDATE 2: Maartonius solved this issue: "Go to your Origin install folder. delete origin.exe and rename 'originTMP' to 'origin'. Then launch it." It worked for me!

Have you tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it afterwards with a fresh installer from Origin.com?

No yet, but is an option. Do you know what happens with my installed games if I uninstall Origin?

If you have any doubt and fear they might be deleted, you could try renaming the folder that contains them, so they don't get deleted. Once re-installed, rename the folder back to normal.

It works for Steam, not sure about Origin however.

Exactly. Alternatively, you could try to move the game folders to a temporary location for the time being, if you want to be really, really safe. From what I've heard you wouldn't even need to move them back, as Origin can run them also from other folders (e.g. when you have downloaded an EA game via Steam).

Another idea would be using a windows restore point of last week or so, although I'm sure that the re-installing option is a lot faster.

I don't know if this could work. I think Origin is working "hidden" in my computer.

Does its icon show up in the bottom-right corner of your desktop ? I can't recall how it's called...the "tray" ? If yes, right-click on it and try to launch it from here (once the process is running but it doesn't show up)

No, I don't have any icon there. Origin don't appear in the process list neither.

I'd make sure your firewall is not blocking it.

I have rules for Origin in my firewall, it is not blocking it.

I found this on a EA forum :

  • Exit Origin (if you can't exit it normally, try opening Task Manager and use End Process on Origin).
  • Open Screen Resolution by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, and then, under Appearance and Personalization, clicking Adjust screen resolution.
  • Click Advanced settings, and then click the Monitor tab.
  • Under Colors, select True Color (32 bit), and then click OK.
  • Launch Origin again.

Also, that list of things to try

I tried it, but nothing happens. However, I've always selected 32 bit selected. Thanks anyway ;)

I had that for a while. Luckily, there's a way around it.

  • Start Origin like you usually would. (It won't open)
  • Click the hidden icons button in the taskbar.
  • Right click the Origin logo.
  • Click Open Origin, or alternatively, My Games or Store.

Then you're done, it should open Origin.
I hope this helps!

Ah, that's weird. Have you tried launching Origin through C:/Program Files/Origin (or in whatever registry you installed it)?
Also, did you launch as Administrator?

well it seems like the process gets terminated when it wants to start. Make sure you launch origin as administrator. also i would suggest disabling or removing your anti virus at first then try removing other apps that you installed recently ( they may have interference with origin ). if it didn't work, try windows restore point. Sorry I don't know any other way. ( doesn't origin have something like beta version so you could try that too? )

In the EA forums a user talk about installing and old version of Origin and he said it worked for him, but I don't know where can I download it. Origin doesn't have them, and I'm not sure about downloading it from any other source.

Last time my Origin worked was long time ago; I've installed a lot of software since then. I don't know what should I uninstall D:

I had the same issue, where it wasn't opening, it wasn't showing up in my hidden apps, and it wasn't running in my task manager! I tried some things and nothing worked. Then I decided to try something that I thought of. I opened my task manager again, found the Origin app, which like I said wasn't currently running so I had to scroll down further to find it, I right clicked on it and clicked, "end task". I then exited out of task manager and tried to open Origin again and it worked perfectly fine! Hope this helps anyone!
