EDIT: 7 Days have passed i did not recieve the game.

I just won a giveaway of Doom. It was 7 hours ago. I added the creator, he blocked me, his profile is private. He has X (edited) positive feedback and X (edited) Gifts sent. All of them were recieved, but they are at least X(edited) months ago. So what do you guys think? Am i really lucky enough to actualy get the game or do you think it was a fake / he aint giving it to me?
(I dont know if i am allowed to post the creator so i better dont)

(Yes = i get it || No = i dont get it)

CLOSED! : Thanks for all the answers guys. I'm not very much into this community and i didnt know that contacting the gifter is seen as rude and inapropriate. I did not want that so i hope noone was too offended by my "blindness". Good luck everyone on your giveaways.

We can't really know that. :/ But given the fact that he blocked you, maybe he won't give it to you. :/ Also, well, maybe it's a steam key, so he may add it later. :P

It's quite rude to pester on steam. Likewise, making a thread about the matter this early on is being discourteous and nagging toward the GA creator, which isn't going to incline them more favorably toward you. [It also is likely to get others frowning over you coming across as rude and impatient.]
If you really have concerns, you can post on the giveaway itself- though you'll want to stick with simply leaving the clarification for why you added them on steam [eg: "sorry if I bothered you by adding you on steam! Let me know if you need anything from me to complete the giveaway!"], rather than pestering them about an obligation they're already aware of.

You should also check your e-mails, it's likely enough it got/will get sent through there.

The GA creator has a week to get it to you, according to site rules.
Thus, bringing this up before a week has passed is in bad form, and worrying about it till about 5 days in is a waste of your energy.

Just put it on the backburner for a bit. :)

P.s. Private profile individuals tend to, y'know, value their privacy- it's reasonable enough to assume they just blocked you from their notifications list out of habit.

This was not meant to be rude in any way. I just wanted some opinions from users who are more experienced than i am. I realised how "adding the gifter" is seen as bad and i guess i wont do that again if i get ever in this situation. But for someone who just won a giveaway and wants to contact the gifter i dont see any rudeness or something like that.

While you might like seeing the win notification, taking a win and not marking it as received is kinda... rude, to say the least.
It's like saying: I'm glad I won, but I don't want you to be acknowledged for sending the gift.

Would you consider the giveaway creators' feelings? Seeing that the winner happily took their win but didn't bother to mark it as received wouldn't be conceived too well by many...

I don't actually take it though. And I always do mark as received within 7 days, just not usually within the first 3.

Permalink

As you want to keep your trophy, a gifter on the other hand want to get rid of seeing the "Awaiting feedback" notification.
Maybe it takes some gifting to actually know the feeling.

Actually, the "giveaway ended" notification is turned off the moment we click the "Send Key" button.
But there's still the "Awaiting Feedback" notice, although it's a silent one.

Well, that's fine by the rules, but some people might not like it too much.
Personally, I wouldn't mind, unless it's an expensive AAA game, or if I need just a bit of CV to get to the next level.

I'm just kidding anyways, it's not something I'm serious about.
Usually I just can't claim on the first day (I was just about to have to go do something else) and then forget about it for a day or two.
It's not like I intentionally jerk people around for 6 days, or that it's ever lasted 6 days.

By not marking received, you are also blocking a spot (or even two) that could be used for another GA, especially if they are lower level or making trains.

It's okay by rule standards, and life can get in the way sometimes, but not something I would do.

Agreed. Wait the seven days out and if they don't deliver, then you're within the guidelines of the site to ask for action to be taken. If he doesn't deliver or refuses to, action will be taken against him, but that doesn't mean you will receive the game.

Just be patient. You likely just annoyed them.

EDIT: The site will take action, Tex. Usually in the form of a suspension for a false giveaway. They're not going to let people get away with that and ruin the flow of the website.

FAQ says:

Giveaway creators are allowed one week to send the gift after the giveaway has ended. Depending on the type of gift and the giveaway creator, you might receive the gift to the e-mail address you have listed on the account page, a key might be added beside the gift you won, or the giveaway creator might have sent you a friend request on Steam to make the exchange. Please remain patient, and do not contact the giveaway creator during this time. If the gift is not received after one week, you can mark the gift as not received, and attempt to contact the giveaway creator on Steam to follow-up.

isnt nice to just annoy someone because you won each of his GA's, but who im talking about, your last GA is older than 2 years. you cant know that as a leecher, only gifters know that because they read the FAQ / Terms of Use, you did not... so i dont wonder about.

But remember, with that ratio and opening a thread like that, you be a nice target to get blacklisted, better to close/delete this thread ASAP.

EDIT:
and yea, sure you will get your Key because of the site rules, if not the gifter gets suspended. but i bet both my balls, he let you wait now 6-7 days just because he can ;)

i know that he has 7 days and i have read the FAQ. I also dont understand the hating on "leechers". Everyone is able to make a giveaway for high levels. Anyway i just wanted some opinions and i got them. I wont delete this Thread just because people could blacklist me.

Edit: well seems like thats a common thing to let people wait. I dont see a reason for that but i also dont care. 7 Days / 1 Hour doesnt bother me. What bothers me is IF you guys think i get it or not.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Its because theres a difference between leechers and "MEMBERS"... sure SG is for everyone and i dont care about if someone have a ratio like 1.000 wins, 10 given away. but your "only" GA were ago 2 years, you won a couple games this year. this just showing that you arent willing to giving something back to the community.
Not everyone have money to spend on SG, but there like 10 other ways to earn game keys without invest a single cent... as example read this:
https://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/cVY8v/no-more-excuses-getting-to-level-1-without-spending-money-a-short-simple-guide
https://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/CaalE/tremor-coins-help-not-spamno-ref-links
and there a lot other threads on "how to be not a bad person" ;)
So the hate isnt about the leechers, the hate is about people who arent willing to give something back ;)

Edit:
as i said, you are a legit winner and he have to send the key to you, SG support wont agree for a reroll because of "private reasons". you won, you deserv it. if the GA creator done a fake, then you dont get the key, but he surley get suspended.

i had this issue because of a indiegala mistake. They revoked every AXYOS key whilst i created 2 GA's with AXYOS keys.

Normal shopper/user: Goes to a shopping store, grabs some free samples, buys a few things. Give and take.
Opportunistic shopper/poor-ratio user: Goes to a shopping store, grabs a lot of free samples, buys a little. We don't know their circumstances to judge them, and they still contribute in part to the whole.
skeevy shopper/Leecher: Goes in, grabs handfuls of free samples from every location offering some, walks out- comes back immediately for seconds. Never buys anything.

if you can't get why people have problems with leechers, you should take some time to think it over.

obviously this guy needs to wait for his key and learn a little patience but this got me thinking....the gifter has 7 days to send the key does the winner then have another 7 days to mark it received? or can the gifter just send it the last minute then ask for a re-role a minute later?

I don't believe so (answer to your last question), as you'd have to provide support with proof that you attempted to reach out to the winner if you want a re-roll after 7 days for not activating their win.

The winner has not redeemed my gift, and I'm unable to get into contact with them. How do I proceed?

If you've been unable to reach the winner of your giveaway using e-mail and Steam after seven days of your giveaway ending, and they have not yet activated or redeemed any keys or gifts you attempted to send, please contact support to request a new winner. When creating a ticket, we ask you to include data that suggests you made an adequate attempt to contact the winner, such as screenshots of e-mails, friend requests, or gifts pending on Steam. If the request is approved, a new winner will be generated by the site.

Permalink

yea i had read that also but if a person was sneaky enough to have tried to send the key last second im sure they could send a friend request with the person offline get a screenshot then cancel the request or something along those lines :)~

anyways just hypothetical i have seen a lot on here lots of low level scammers and is why i mostly do group and whitelist and high level Ga's these days i was more just wondering if both the giver and receiver both get 7 days.

I believe it's 7 days for both the creator and the winner, not 7 days for each.

thats what i had thought also but then read this:
If your gift has been activated or redeemed by the winner, and they have not left feedback after seven days, please create a support ticket to request received feedback. A support member will review and ticket, and if the gift is activated on the winner's Steam account, approve the ticket and update the feedback to received.

Yeah, I'm not sure about it. The FAQ mentions seven days after the giveaway has ended. How would you know exactly when a winner activated a gift or when a creator sent a gift? Seven days starting after the end of the giveaway is what makes the most sense to me.

It's considered extremely unpolite to add creator yourself and ask for win (unless creator specifically says in his description something like "add me if you win" etc) especially so soon after GA ended. He has 7 days to deliver game to you. If it's been 6 Days you may add him and ask, but not after 6-7 hours.

I know that if you won it form me and added me to ask.bother me 6 h after GA ended I would block you myself as well. Even more - I would wait on purpose will it's 6days 23hrs and 59mins after GA ended until I would send it to you. Just to teach you some freaking patience ;p

Now that this question arose, I have another question too.

Do you guys make giveaways before buying the game? Or you have the key in your possession when you do the giveaway?

It's curious that WinGouZ was blocked because he was asking for the game... If the guy cares about the CV, he'd give the game instantly, since the winner is active at the moment...

I don't know... It's strange...

I know it's also rude to contact others, but people just can't control their excitement! xD

My advice is to just wait... The guy might not have the key at the moment... Wait for him to come to you, as much as you depend on him, he also depends on you! ;)

Usually I already have a key/gift or buy it while the giveaway is still running. Sometimes, mainly with gifts, I buy afterwards. Of course, I have to be sure I can provide the game.

That's what I do.

I can't do a giveaway without being sure that I have the key already in my hands!

If I make a giveaway without it, there are things that might happen, according to one's luck.

What if your bank account with your money to pay the game is frozen for like a month or something? It would be impossible to pay the game, unless you ask for a relative help.

I would like to come up with more worse case scenario situations, but I have nothing as of now! xD

I only make giveaways while I have access to the relevant key/gift.
I make all my giveaways gifts, so I time them to end when I know I'll be awake and have access to my desktop PC.
Then I check winners to see if they already have the game, and if they broke the rules, and eventually send them the game.
Apart from a time when I fell asleep, I usually deliver keys within a few minutes from the drawing.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I also normally giveaway only when I have the key.
But the person doing the giveaway might not be home when the giveaway ends.
There was once I was at a friend's birthday party (lasted 2 days) when my giveaway ended, and I could only give the game the next day.
[Could only access steamgifts and steam through my phone, but the key was saved in a text document on my computer]
So yes, waiting and patience is the key.

Edit: I just looked at the OP's recently won, and there wasn't a Doom giveaway. Maybe he bypassed an sgtools check, or broke a rule that resulted in a reroll? Not sure what really happened. O.o

To add a little, so you may understand why people say to be patient.
Not so long ago I put up a larger number of keys to the public. After they all ended, within 48 hours I was contacted by almost THIRTY people (sadly, mostly from one certain country) who used a variation of the "I won, give me my game NOW!" message. (20 of them even added me on Steam… including those high-level ones.)
It is quite fucking infuriating. Especially when two flat-out accused me of cheating and ripping them off, before I even could get to send out the keys.
So it can grind on one's nerves, leading to have incredibly short fuses when it gets to an impatient winner.

Will you get your win?
Maybe yes, maybe not. Only time will tell.

When will you get it?
Within 7 days from the giveaway end, at most. If you even get it, that is.
Given that the giveaway creator hasn't been here for a week, I'd just wait for him to come back.

Will you be able to activate it?
Probably not. His profile is private, but most of his giveaways suggest he might be from the RU/CIS region, so there's a high chance you would get a region-locked key or gift.

Basic etiquette:

When you win... be calm, and be patient.
DO NOT add the person on steam, unless they specified that in the GA.

Remember: People are in all parts of the world, so they may be different time zones than you, AND they may have to go work.

at the time he blocked you, he may of not known you were the winner... like many people, he probably doesn't accept RANDOM adds on steam. He may have just thought you were a random.

Give him the full 7 days and mark it NOT received if he doesn't send the key
** double check that the email address you have on SG is the correct address, and check there... as many people prefer not to add people to their friends list, but to instead send via email.

and please just give people the benefit of the doubt! Most of the people on SG are pretty cool cats! ;)

And always SAY THANK YOU for any win, but especially a big win!!

and last.. close this thread, now that you know your answer.

hope this helps and that you get to enjoy your win! :)
