Not so much for PC, while I'm sure some users have lesser PCs that won't run everything they buy, bundles would inflate the numbers of many. I'm meaning other systems, both consoles and handhelds. I'm wondering if many users here pick up games for a system they don't yet own, like me with my PS3 collection (though I keep promising myself to get one this year, but I was saying that last year as well).

I only buy games for PC, kinda gave up after buying ps1/2/3 , enough is enough, having to buy a new console to play newly released games or waiting for them to be ported to the old console sucks, and i can just DL SP games for pc which saves money so yeay PC \o/

Only thing I buy on console's are the exclusives, everything I can grab at PC is bought there

My goal is to have the ability to play any game I get my hand on, but there's a few I don't have as of yet. Having a game for a system I don't have, just serves as a reminder that I need to try to get that system.

Well, I had a DS then I sold it but I still have the games, that counts?

I don't, as I still have PSP games unmentioned here. You bought them when you could use them.

I saw the game for 10€ in a shop many times and thought about buying it cause I planned on getting a Wii eventually. Now I have a WiiU and the game is gone forever.

A couple yrs ago, when one my friends told me he was going to get me a PS3 for my bday, I got online, after talking to a couple friends that owned one and had similar taste in things as I do, and got Dragon Age: Origins, the special edition one with Awakening and all the extra stuff. That was like 2 months before I got it.

I will still on the rare occasion buy a PS1 game if the price is right, because despite not having a PS1, it is compatible with the PS2 and PS3 I have. Right before I knew I was going to get a PSP for myself at xmas, I got on ebay and amazon and bought several games.

Same friend got me a Kindle Fire HDX for Xmas this past yr. Amazon's Andriod/Kindle store has a daily free app (I have an Android phone also). So I will check it out on the website everyday, and if any look vaguely interesting or I think the kids might like it, just "buy" it, then have it just stored on the cloud. So I have a couple hundred apps or close to it, that I have yet to use or may never. But I like knowing that there is a huge choice waiting if I ever need or want it. So not really a "buy before having it" but similar in concept.

Why? Why buy anything beyond pc? Why game on a sofa instead of your dark private room? Is there better gaming then one alt-tab away from all interwebs and all the pr0n and all your digital music? Why? Why give money to those devil-dealers that turn some awesome games in evilish exclusives? Why, WHY?!?!!1!?

Id rather make Gabe more rich

I enjoy games. I enjoy games you don't play because you don't want to look beyond your PC.

I have Demon's Souls. :D

At first I was like "that's so dumb why would any one do that?"
Then I remembered how i bought Red Steel back in the early days of the nintendo wii. At the time I wasn't really playing any games and I got caught up in the idea of motion controls. Fortunately I didn't go thru with my purchase and gave the game to my friend. I know there were a few good wii games, i just think i would have regretted buying one.

why should i buy games if i cant play them?

Depends, pretty much all older cd/dvd based systems you can emulate so having original game is being legit.

ok, that would be a reason. but buying the system for the game and playing it like it has to be is much cooler. also i dont like emulating, that feeling is different

I buy during sales, and have a number of games that will only get hard to find and bleeding expensive if I left it to later. Look at it like those Steam games that get removed. :P

but cant i buy them in physical form at any time (ebay etc) and add them to steam? ok maybe its more expensive if you wait, but like hillary said normally games are becoming cheaper

Not always.

And even if you could, it will never be as good as the deal you might find on Steam.

Example, I paid NZ$8 for Ni No Kuni. Normally I'd pay about 10 times that, and think of how hard it would be to find cheap later. Its an RPG. People love to hoard those.

Might as well wait till you got the system to buy games, everything gets cheaper eventually, unless its a company that limits amount of games, forget which but a couple do this...

Many games can be a pain in the arse to find later. Given I have several titles that would be hoarded for profit, I'll grab them now.

Makes sense, personally for me if the dev/publisher doesn't sell it anymore its free game to "get it elsewhere" but thats just me...

I did that with the Gamecube, for example I bought on release date Fire Emblem: Awakening and I started it a couple of weeks ago. Ive had some games like that for a while even though I didnt have a cube. Now that I have a Wii I can play em.

Also got Crisis Core for PSP and I dont have a PSP. Not many games but I did buy them knowing I could not be able to play em any time soon.

Recommended, some of the best games I've ever played on the Gamecube: Tales of Symphonia, Skies of Arcadia Legends, Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean, Beyond Good & Evil, Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, Prince of Persia Sands trilogy (Sands of Time, Warrior Within, Two Thrones), Metroid Prime.

I still want Skies of Arcadia Legends and Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, but I was given both of the Metroid Prime games and Tales of Symphonia (as well as Resident Evil Remake and Resident Evil 4 CE) for free. That was great.

Skies of Arcadia is gold.

Also when/if you get a PS3, start with Lollipop Chainsaw just to set the bar low. I bought it for $20 at GameStop, and sold it back the next day for $18 after beating it. (the game)

Some people want to be legit when they emulate so they buy original games :)

I bought Wii U games before I got a Wii U, and I was tempted to buy Persona 4 for PS Vita even though I don't own one yet. Still planning on it, if someday Persona 4 Golden doesn't end up on PSN sometime.

I have some PS2 and 3 games and have yet to own any PS-series system, games such as Resident Evil: Code Veronica X, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands (I beat the Wii version and LOVE the POP series so got the PS3 version in hopes of owning the system one day to play it. Yes, the game is THAT different), Prince of Persia, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. I don't do Xbox like that because I don't like the Xbox series systems.
