i don't have really any special thing to put someone on the whitelist
just if he/she/thing is funny, nice, and not a dick, probably i'm gonna put it in the whitelist

Maybe also WL people do who puzzles? I really like the work that they put in, but those people also tend to be people who comment a lot anyways.

Thanks for all the replies. I made some adjustments to the criteria. So...
Factors that potentially contribute to a good profile and make a user worthy of whilelisting:

it's all about having an awesome avatar! Just kidding. I agree with your two clear cases (good giver, quality poster) and that it's tough to make a call on the middleground. Activated wins, not acting immature on the forums, something close to an even balance for give/win... all really a personal call, really.

Well, remember that Whitelists aren't a fixed list, so you can always add or remove people as you see fit.
I tend to add people from the forums that I've enjoyed chatting with, that also have at least a balanced ratio. For a span of a couple of giveaways, I added anyone who actually read and responded appropriately to my posts in the previous giveaways (I demanded pictures of clowns/spiders/baby animals or asked people about food). Basically, people that are here for more than just winning games.

I'm trying to come up with some guidelines (for myself) for whom to add to my whitelist. One factor that I'm looking into is the users's participation on the forum. If they post really insightful or interesting comments, nothing else really matters. They can be Level 0 and I'll whitelist them. At the same time I'll also add people who are "giveaway saints" (I'm looking at you, PuddlePirate) - those who continue to give and give even if they have little or no wins. They'll be whitelisted too, regardless of participation in the forum.
The more challenging thing is how to balance comments and profiles when both are ok, but not exceptional. Here are some factors I think are worthwhile to consider that contribute to a good profile:
Untainted trade ratio
Any suggestions for how to balance these factors (and forum participation) together?
