Whay not Fallout 4, there is a survival difficulty mode, and with all the mods available you can pretty much tailor the game into what you want it to be.

are the dlc worth getting?

For my style of play yes, but Im all about the settlement building. Far Harbor is by far the best, probably the one youd want the least is Wasteland Workshop unless you do intend on doing the settlements. One thing to keep in mind is at least 60% of the mods out do require all dlc to work. Have a gander at the 23,000 + mods available https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4 . There is a hard limit of 255 mods you can run at once, but there is also a file conversion methos that can get you around that limit. I run with 277 at present, mostly building and clothing mods with alot of hairstyles thrown in to make all the npc's look unique. Im by far no guru but Im pretty good at combining mods then doing the conversions, so Id be happy to help :)

LIF is reeally grindy, so definitely recommend playing with a group of people so you can allocate tasks.

Banished is created by one man city building simulator, but a bit hardcore.
No money, no army, pure surviving.
I love this game.)

I'm surprised no one's mentioned Distrust or Home Behind.

Both relatively inexpensive and well-made games worth playing.

both, the few time i have spend there was nice at the biginning at just "all the same" ( i have seen and done this before several times) at the end. In subnautica all the time you play you see diffirent biomes, diffirent creatures and so on. in the Long Dark you see only the same bildings same few creatures and most of the time you need to find something to eat and heat place to sleep or repair your clothers. Dont recommend to play this game after subnautica.

Survival and open world single player games aren't really something I've spent a lot of time on but I have to say that Fallout New Vegas is easily my number 1 pick. I know it's 8 years old but it still stands the test of time. I haven't beaten it but I've spent over 115 hours in the game just enjoying everything about it. I don't know if you've played or not but I really think it's worth checking out.

I see Hammerwatch up on the list and it's pretty fun. I don't have a ton of games on my pc(maybe 30 or so) and it's one of the ones that stays installed as I do enjoy it from time to time.

Fade to silence reminds me of a movie called The Thing (1982)

The Final Station is quite good (you run around with a train, scavenging supplies around stations and helping survivors), the game is not very long and it lacks replayability though, so the full price is a bit too expensive. See if you can get it on a sale/bundle.

FTL is a solid recommendation, but my vote goes for Thea: The Awakening. No zombies, but lots of encounters and decisions to be made.

Hmmmm I haven't played them all so I can't be of MUCH help.

7 Days to Die is a fun game to play with a friend or two (or more) but I wouldn't recommend playing it solo as it gets to stressful having to manage everything yourself and having to relocate to a new location each week ... by yourself.

The Long Dark is a very immersive survival experience with a decent story but the game is filled with long fetch quests and gets quite repetitive...

The Forest, you can play this with a friend or solo. The game was a fun experience with a few scary elements but a very nice experience the bit I played.

Savage Lands, eh ... decent graphics, decent gameplay but not an amazing game. Would pass

ARK , well hell it's ARK, dinosaurs, taming, survival, friends and all that. It also apparently has a nice story mode now ???

Dying Light, ah heeeeell yeah, Dead Island meets Mirrors Edge in a really good game. If you are planning to play a game solo I would recommend this one as it is awesome and I've been playing more than 50 hours so far.

Dead Island, kickass game, gets repetitive but it's fun enough :) better with friends

How to Survive ... alright isometric survival game, not for everyone and I wouldn't really categorize it as a survival game

RUST ... eh, just played for the multiplayer, not much fun is to be had here for everyone

So anyways I went through quite a few games here XD, out of them I would recommend Dying light the most, awesome game :)

I highly recommend Wurm Unlimited! Though it has a very strong crafting element and once you've got yourself established, its easy to survive. Tough to start though!
