Hi,

Question is for MMOs since offline games are usually buy once, unless it has lots of DLCs, like RockSmith or Train Simulator. On the other hand MMOs are usually Free2Play + Pay2Pretty, offering large amount of "ingame" items ranging from weapons, armor, upgrades and so on. Considering how much one loves the game, a player can spend a big sum for the "time" he spent since most MMOs will eventually die due their 'online' nature.

Been there, done that and spent good sum on a single game that I could've have spent on buying top games. But IMO it worth it. So what's your amount?

L5GA

Thx.

How much?

The last two games I remember paying full price for were Skyrim and Dark Souls II ($50 each). I've never been a fan of MMOs, so I can't speak for them, but it amazes me how someone can spend over $500 on a single game!

Well it depends on the MMO.

Back on 2011 when MMO communities were literally huge, i was spending 250$ year round. Now i spend 5-10$ annually.

Spent over $600 on a private server for Ragnarok Online.
I played that game for nearly 8 years on and off. And when I quit, I sold my gear for tf2 keys. Probably got all my money back that I spent on that game.

I don't know, but I think it's around $20... My older brother let me use his credit card, so I bought the Dota 2 Compendium last year. I don't usually spend money in games, but this case was special :p

Never spent anything in free to play MMO. I was really tempted when I was playing World of Tanks, tho

I don't really want to know haha. Spent a fair bit on playing WoW. Base game, all the expansions, game time and majority of the mounts and pets from the store.

I'm lucky I dodged XI, XIV has been gradually draining me dry. I can feel your pain, shaving off pieces of my wallet every month to keep Square happy.

But FFs worth it. My avatar says it so :3

In my opinion, FFXI is the most community-based mmo there is. I thoroughly enjoyed struggling through the content with everyone else. I played XIV too, but it just didn't have the same appeal, for me.

Fallout New Vegas bought twice (30 Euros in total I think), Deus Ex 1 four times (my guess is around 30 USD in total). These are the most I spent on a game.

Oh, and Remember Me, if we count Steam cards. The game was about 13 Euros, and spent another 15 on level 5 + foil badge out of appreciation.

Well, lets be honest: they are not free to play, more like free to try or free to grind infinitely.

Depends which game. Ones that you can only buy cosmetics are truly f2p. Like dota 2. Nothing you can buy will affect gameplay.

Oh yeah, forgot about the kid games and the Apple method of sustaining a mediocre product by creating an artificial need in people for unneeded and otherwise unwanted stuff (in our case, CS:GO skins and TF2 hats).

I actually love this system. Skins brining in the money means that the devs don't have to make the game pay to win to make money. It truly can be a f2p experience. Only the players who can afford to spend the money spend it while those who cannot, don't have to. In my books that is the perfect way to do this.

I +1 this as well. It gives the user the option without them having to do it to be able to "win".

it's the best system so far for f2p. no need to grind because they are just cosmetic items.

Jagex now has this thing like EVE where you can pay your membership with gp. It's a cool idea, but the exchange rate is pretty bad iirc.

Because MMOs are evil and they don't deserve my money (otherwise known as "because I'm stingy as hell" :D ).

Well, ok, there was RuneScape once upon a time. But I was young and stupid then, the game used to not suck and I consider the monthly "membership" fee to be more like unlocking the actual game (without it you're essentially playing a Demo).

Spent 120$ on a Star Citizen pledge. It comes with tons of physical goodies (limited amount) though, so it's a reasonable "price".

I won't even play pay2win games anymore. I only play free2play games that only sell cosmetics because then the developers are actually giving you an option to play without paying.

Honestly I haven't been keeping track. With sub payments the number is probably way up there. Vanity items isn't really something I spend my money on unless it's something REALLY amazing.
