I guess there is a good reason for not deleting a giveaway rightaway when a delete is requested, but is there one if the GA didn't even start ?

I was preparing a train with a bonus game but forgot about the GA limit, when I got the limit error message, I wanted to delete one in order to create my bonus one, but it seems that they will count towards my GA limit until they expire ?
It's a bit annoying !

If there's a good reason, I'm interested to know why, else my suggestion is to immediatly delete GA when a delete request is submitted if it didn't start.

Thanks.

Thanks for the explaination.
Then I update my suggestion : don't reduce the GA limit if you delete a GA before it even started ! I don't see how you can abuse the system in this case.
Or at least display a warning before deleting ;). If I knew deleting a GA would not free a slot and even remove one, I wouldn't have done it.

They are not counting against your limit, you get one slot removed for each deleted giveaway. Abuse protection.

If you delete 1 giveaway, your limit -1.

Create a support ticket asking for more giveaways slots. If you say to support how many you need, they can help you.

Ok thanks... But with a few GA already created and starting soon, I won't bother support, they have more important things to do ;).
I'll just be more careful next time !

When you push create button, you lose 1 slot and received it back only after feedback confirmed. For each 3 positive feedbacks you gain addition slot. If you just delete GA you can't receive slot back.

Thanks, I thought it was tied to level. I wish details like this were more readily available.

The FAQ doesn't state explicitly 3 received means +1 slot, but it certainly doesn't imply it is tied to level:

Why is there a limit to the number of gifts I'm able to give away?

  • We limit the number of gifts a user can create for security purposes, and to prevent a new user from potentially posting a large number of invalid gifts to the site. When you create giveaways and your gifts are received, this number will increase, and you'll be rewarded with the ability to create giveaways with a greater number of copies, or more simultaneous giveaways.

You can delete GAs on your own if there is no winner, without contacting support. It will remove a slot from you though just so you're aware.

If they are invite only just don't share them anywhere and you won't need to delete them.

^ That is the elegant solution to removing an unwanted giveaway. You do have to wait for it to expire, however. P

Actually, I think this idea has some merit.

This seems reasonable. If the giveaway hasn't even started yet, nobody's wasted any points entering it or anything. As long as people don't get the creation points until the giveaway actually opens, there's no way to abuse it that I can think of.

I too could delete giveaways and not be affected by it. Essentially, those that are generous will naturally build up large number of available slots. At this point, I am able if I so desire, to create 525 GAs.

Losing GA slots only really hurts when one starts out.
