I got no idea about the banning part though. Might be possible that you share the IP with others by using VPN and I got no idea if those shared IP users get checked manually.

Since Roskomnadzor started a "war" against Telegram messenger, some websites became unavailable in Russia. I tried to open this site on 2 browsers and it goes with "No access to the site". I used the VPN and it works.
Not sure if you care about Russian part of community, but could you do something? Or at least tell am I right? I wonder if joining giveaways using VPN will get me banned.
