I received a strange friend request, the guy said to add a friend. But the link that he has written is a scam site.

Just asking, why do you want the name blurred? It's obvious an alt account, with most likely 0-1 games. Plus, why not spread the word about the scammer?

Also, this scam isn't new at all. Everyone who does/did even a small but of trading probably experienced this multiple times in the past few months

Site rules. No calling out aloud, even if its an obvious scammer. It prevents people from misidentifying other users, and prevents Support from having to deal with drama (such as between groups and former members).

  • I still get 2-3 of these adds a day, even though all my trades expired, but I got some expensive items on the market. Usually they either have a private profile or very few games. Sometimes they're actual persons and not bots

Me too. Private, level 0 profile with no friends or groups in common. The least these shitty scammers could do is join a couple of the open groups.

That's an old method of phishing.

I've also seen it as: cornmunity, communitiy, comnnunity, etc.

Why cormmunity anyway? Isn't cornmunity the best option for all these pages?

But if I was scammer I would use steamycommunism.com/gimmi-acc and steamid Jorji Costava

cornmunity was probably already taken by another bitc... ehem another scammer. Soon they'll run out of options for fake steam community names.

I remember somebody tried to do this to me (years ago).

I knew it was fake anyway, but instead of instant blocking them, i decided to troll them.
I acted like i was clueless, and wanted a "step by step" on how to do it. Basically, seeing how long i could keep them going.

After about 10 minutes, they got fed up with it and unfriended/blocked me. Shocked i kept them going THAT long.
People like that, that try to scam me and waste my time, i just waste their time instead. :P

Nothing new as its been stated. This is a very widely used phishing attempt. I probably get 5-10 adds of this nature a week, sometimes more. A few months ago someone on my friends list got phished this way and I came thisclose to falling for it myself, but Chrome actually caught that it was a phishing attempt before I input any info.

Best tip to avoid these: If you get any friend request from hidden profiles or profiles with very few games (less than 5-10) on them adding you, don't even bother adding them. Just block them immediately. If you have a trading thread somewhere make it a rule that they reply to the thread before adding you.

this exact user sent me a friend invite, same avatar and a private profile.
I looked at Steamgifts to see if I won a giveaway, found out I hadn't and blocked the user instantly.

Don't laugh at me but I didn't know about the search bar when I first started using Steamgifts and Steamtrades.

Kind of weird why they don't work unless you are on the main forum page.

It isn't exactly a search function...it's a filter...doesn't search it's filtering.
Therefore only works on the main page, because there is the list needed for filtering.
