Have an option when creating a giveaway if you want people to be able to comment or not.

I didn't think much of this, but it could be a cool idea. PROVE ME WRONG, SG! Which I'm sure you will.

This very horribly bad ugly idea?

No, I think you're the Einstein of our generation.
Yes, this is an awful not good very bad idea.

MAYBE... the option might be okay if you at least allow after the giveaway ends the commenting.. (gotta have a place to request re-rolls and such)
but even then i don't think most would agree for other reasons (asking for permission to enter on GOTY editions that come with DLCs & relatable)

+1. need to have ability to communicate once giveaway is over in case of issues (rerolls, key problem, etc),

yeah, that's a must.. and it would drive me nuts not to thank the gifter if i were a winner also.. otherwise though i think it's fairly harmless in disabling it as the GA is active, though i wouldn't suggest it on the packs with DLC's that people frequently ask if they are allowed to enter.

agree. I was going to add "to say thanks" because it seems like I really ought to say thanks if I win, but I totally understand if somebody doesn't even want a thanks.

this, but only for the winner/creator...

after GA ended winner/creator should have the ability to add comments for stated reasons...

Yes, sounds awesome. If it could be a setting that all giveaways are created with that option turned ON would be even better. Suddenly all message alerts would actually carry a meaning.

I still don't understand why people dislike gratitude they get in comments when they create a giveaway. If you don't wanna read that generic what you think is scripted gratitude, it's easy enough to press "Mark as read" button without reading the comments.

I'm such a bad person showing my love/gratitude to users who give games, shame on me :(

On the topic note, it would be useful to those who don't wanna gratitude in their comments BUT then again, how would I thank the user after I would've won the GA?

I tell you why - Since SGv2 gives msg notification for GAs by default and there's no way to turn it off, massive amounts of GA notifications would make spotting replies that are important to you much harder if not impossible. In SGv1 I was big suporter of Comment when Enter rule, but in SGv2 not so much. simple example - I currently host a month long event, I have way over 650 GAs in it, each with dozens up to 200-300 entries. If all these entrants commented they each entry it would mean I'd get few tens of thousands of comments. Making spotting anything I need to spot actually impossible. Ofc I can mark all as read and ten choose to view just Discussion comments - but what if someone asked something important in GA? Like if it's ok to enter for DLCs or informing me I screwed something up with GA? I would never notice such a comment.

When I'm hosting one or a few GAs I do enjoy every comment I get, but when hosting tens not to mention hundreds of Simultaneous GAs ability to turn commenting off for them would be great improvement.

But then when turning them off, that would make it impossible for people to do exactly what you said - ask something important in the giveaway. I think a better way to deal with this is to simply ask in the description for people not to leave meaningless comments. Sure, there will still be some by bots, but the amount of those comments should reduce a lot, and you can always blacklist those people using bots to reduce it even more.

" I think a better way to deal with this is to simply ask in the description for people not to leave meaningless comments. " - 90%of people on these forums don't read descriptions. And we don't have nearly enough BL spots to BL other people. I made a forum topic with GAs once when in every Ga description I asked ppl to do a simple thing otherwise they will be BLed. lvl0 GA 400+ Entries, 4X comments...

That's not true. I've seen many giveaways where the creator asked in the description for people not to leave generic comments (loud and clear, not something small or hidden in a big text), and the amount of generic comments was close to zero. In most of those times there were only a few bots and the usual trolls.

And I also did something similar once, in a region restricted giveaway, where I asked people to post something red in the comments. There were 540 entries and only 5 out of 108 comments (roughly 5%) were generic. In all the others people did what was in the description and posted something red. So I don't agree with that 90%.

Also a public experiment which shouldn't even count, since I hid it in a big text. 2 generic comments. 236 entries.

5% if you count people who posted but you miss the fact that 80% didn't post at all, only 20% posted. Looks quite different from your 5% doesn't it?

Oh, yeah, I misread. I agree that 90% of people don't read the descriptions, but I disagree that 90% of people who comment don't read the descriptions. That's usually only bots.

But anyway, there isn't a better solution to this, in my opinion, unless cg increases blacklist limits.

and in my "experinment" I didn't even ask to post something specific. It could be any comment at all, but no comment would mean BL and reroll (it was b4 support said no more custom rules). In higher levels sure - results were much better, like maybe 1 to few ppl not commenting but at lvl 0 and lvl 1 GAs vast majority didn't comment meaning they didn't read description, because if they did they would know that no comment = reroll anyway so no GA for them anyway.

I just had an idea that I thought would be cool (or maybe not): in each giveaway there would be an option for the creator to request a pop-up message to the entrants while commenting along with a message for confirmation.

Example: you don't want generic comments. You check the pop-up box and add a note "Please don't post generic comments." to the giveaway. Every time someone tries to comment in the giveaway (in the giveaway itself, replies to other comments wouldn't be affected by this), they get a pop-up message with your note, giving the person the option to edit or cancel their comment, or post anyway.

This would be a nice way to bring attention to something. And this could also be done while entering: every time someone enters the giveaway they get a pop-up message regarding something important (like don't enter if) or asking them to leave a comment, for example. But that wouldn't stop bots. Other than that, only captcha is the solution, I think.

I'd like this idea ;) Like I said - my problem here is not with bots, well I have problem with bnots but not here, here my problem was that if someone is hosting few hundreds GAs like I currently am people deciding to post in them may be a problem. Same goes for developer who puts massive GA - they will get tens if not hundreds of comments, so in such cases adding any form of preventing or visible asking not to comment is a good thing, it's up to Contributor if he wants comments or if he believes that he may receive as many of them that they will become spam rather than grattitude.

Generic spam isn't very nice, but then some people may ask a legitimate question that you didn't anticipate (like, β€œis this Car Mechanic Simulator 2015 OR 2014?” :D)… so cutting off communication altogether doesn't seem like a good idea.

People need a place to do their calling out. How are we going to report them if they don't have any place to break the rules?

But seriously, someone could have a legitimate question, or warning, to post on your giveaway.

they can reach out to you other way then. It's not menqt to be on by default, just toggled option which I fully support. If you host a few GAs it's no problem, but moment you host few tens not to mention hundreds if everyone commented on them even if someone had a valid concern you would not be able to spot his comment.

Why not implement captcha for commenting on giveaways? This way you stop the spammers and still receive important messages.

I have seen many giveaways where the creator specifically asks for no replies (many with a blacklist warning) and I seldom see any. Don't bury the request in a wall of text so there's no excuse for not seeing it and if someone still does anyway then blacklist them. Problem solved!

It's very convenient way to contact giveaway creator in case something go wrong. So I think disabling comments is not the best idea.

Sure, why not, I think people should have the right to choose if they want comments or not. BUT I think once the GA ends, the winner (and GA creator of course) should be able to comment on default regardless of if the GA allowed comments or not.
