pretty sure this violates steams TOS and valve can reverse the depot changes(I know they have done so in the past) and ban the devs from the platform.

Well that's a major dick move, we really need for Valve to implement a proper rollback option so we can just pull a previous version of a game in case a dev does something scummy like this.
