Definitive Edition is not the same game, they have different entries in my Steam library and different achievements. You have to buy Definitive Edition separately if you want both, you won't get DE for free if you buy a GOTY edition. DE GOTY was recently bundled, you can easily get it for around 1,5-2 CS GO keys.

1 key = about 2,30 euro atm. You can get them directly from steam market but they'll have a trade hold(unless that changed with the Authenticator, haven't bought any since). Browse the Trades section first though. Many traders will trade you the game for another and with the Sale right around the corner it might be beneficial to go down that road. use the search function at the top and Input "dead Island" in the "I want" field to only see people that have it

It was not an authenticator hold, it was a market hold before the authenticator was introduced and I hear it's still around. Like how the stuff from a badge crafted with a card bought from the market is also not tradeable for a week. I just haven't tried it myself so I can't be 100% certain.

Definitive is supposed to be HD version of original I heard. Its 85% off at moment. Why don't you wait sometime? Dead Island Franchsie has been bundled tons. In summers ale you may find it at 80-90% off soon at IG/Humble or steam store itself. You can maybe buy full pack of DE of both DI and Riptide Pack at discount as you said - You have tons of games and so should have time on hands. The originals have been in so many bundles by now they will come back again soon.

GOTY has been removed from steam and it's highly unlikely we'll ever see it again being sold anywhere besides 3rd party marketplaces like G2A from unauthorised sellers. Also the discount on the Definitive edition only applies to people that own a past version I think.

My main problem is they removed the original version and I unlocked achievements on the original version (during a free to play weekend). And the Definitive Edition counts as a different game (so it will have it's own set of achievements). So now I have to find a key for the original version that is no longer available, otherwise you would be correct and I could just wait for the right time to buy it on Steam :)

Oh yeah seems removed. It was recently in Humble Bundle a month back. I am sure many offers exist in trading section from bundle traders. You can see that.

I can't be sure since there's no store page anymore but I believe Definitive and GOTY use different APIs since owners of GOTY didn't get upgraded to Definitive(if you have it though you get a -85% till tomorrow for definite), so their achievements would not be shared.
I can't give you a price estimate but you'll find numerous people trading it. The only advise I can provide there is try to find someone with high enough rep(like over 100) and as low negative rep as possible(if 0 that's perfect). It'll reduce the risk a lot.

I think I'll look into trading if I can find a good offer but 2 keys seems expensive if they got it from the 1$ tier from the Humble Bundle. So I might have to buy it from G2A if I can't find a good offer. Thanks to everyone that replied, it was very helpful :)

So I once played Dead Island on a free weekend, I enjoyed it and unlocked some achievements, but I already have too many games so didn't feel like buying it. But I recently read that any game where you unlock achievements will always count toward your achievement completion percentage whether you still own the game or not. And since I'm an achievement hunter I don't want it to mess up my statistics, and I did enjoy playing it. But recently they released the Definitive edition and I can't find the original version on Steam anymore.
So here are my questions: Is the Definitive Edition (in the Steam app store) the same game as the original Dead Island? (need to know if the same achievements will still be unlocked for the Definitive Edition) What happens if you add Dead Island GOTY to your Steam, will you also get the Definitive Edition? What would be a good price to buy Dead Island GOTY from a trader? Any advise to not get scammed? (I have never traded before)
Please no achievement hunter drama, I enjoy the way I play and I enjoy collecting achievements. I don't expect you to understand, just that you respect my decision, I don't judge the way you enjoy playing your games either.
