Is it possible to delete an Administrator account from a standard user?

I have a problem on my Administrator account where it freezes a few seconds after logging in and when I open the task manager it doesn't respond, and I am pretty reluctant to format my computer...

And now because I'm not an administrator I can't install anything or use anything that needs administrator privileges and I can't even open a new Administrator account.

So could anyone help? I couldn't find answers on the internet and I figured people here probably would know...

Edit : When I press CTRL ALT DELETE and Logoff it stops being Frozen (but then it obviously logs off) and a couple of times I managed to cancel the logoff in time, but I just can't hold the "are you sure you want to log off?" screen long enough to press cancel... If I do manage to do it though, I will terminate that account immediately.

Even if you can't log into the Admin profile you should still be able to use those credentials to install programs or run programs as an admin as long as you know the password.

Try rebooting in Safe Mode and logging in as the admin.

Do you mean even if it is Safe Mode or under the normal booting procedure?

In regular booting, I go into my standard but right clicking things and pressing Run as Administrator won't work.

Ah I forgot about Safe Mode. I forgot the key combination to bring up the list for choosing Safe Mode. You might want to teach him that.

That is not possible as standard account is lower class. Do you have another account with administrator access? If yes then you will be able to use that account to delete the problematic account. If no, then you might need some expert help. Last I know is that on Vista there is a way to get by pass administrator password. But to give another account an admin access, I'm not so sure.

For me, most of the time I'll get ready to back up my files and do a format.

Reboot the system, press F8 repeatedly until you get to the alternate boot menu and select Safe Mode. Try to log in as Admin while in safe mode. If you need additional help, this is a good resource for PC support:

And would that just solve my problems forever?

Will I have to keep logging in through safe mode?

If you can get in via Safe Mode you can create additional user accounts or try and repair the issue with the Admin profile.

Well, what you can do is try to make a 2nd admin account through Safe Mode or try to fix the problem from there. If you create a 2nd admin account, you can choose to delete the first which will be the result that you wanted.
There is still a chance that you can't delete that account though. From what I know there is an admin account that cannot be deleted, though it is normally hidden for safety and support purposes.

He's not having problem with the account password, but rather he's having trouble because the account causes his computer to freeze.

Another alternative is on sites such as http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php
They are willing to help you a limited number of times to fix your computer but it is in their policy that you have to follow their instructions to the letter. They will also have you remove any pirated software and torrent, etc.
