My 7 year old PC just got a much needed speed upgrade in the form of an SSD. (My first SSD ever I might add)
It only took my good friend MadNinja 2 years to convince me it would be worth it. (I'm a bit slow and also a cheapskate)

https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/29494591

Feel free to post your scores but please only do so if your PC is slower than mine... Nah, I'll live but it will hurt my feelings if it's much, much faster.

Yeye whatever! didn't you say something about celebrating?

12 TB of HDD, 740GB SSD.
Is it for your homework? :P

Porn, kidding.

I got about 40TB total with externals, and still short though. I am a collector/preserver i'd call it (some pirate) but for example check redump.org they make 1 on 1 copies purely as preservation, as so many games are disappearing, like Simon the Sorcerer 4/5 and Everlight (Simon the sorcerer 5 1/2 as i call it) games from around 2007 they were barely available anymore, and you got games where people ask ridiculous prices for. And i got music all the way back to 1920-1930 stuff which all will just eventually disappear, and i notice it already with even a lot of tv shows that aren't even that old, like if i want to rewatch mission impossible from the 80's, i want that option, so many that were never on dvd, and there are just things that will never go on a netflix.

I really wish for petabyte drives, but it seems to have hit the roof for years, 20 years ago it kept doubling, megabyte, gigabyte, terabyte and now it's stuck for ages.

Heard about redump.org for the first time. I like their objectives and I am glad there are people contributing to preserve the vulnerable products.

After the introduction of the cloud storage I guess the storage manufacturing companies didn't really give priority to high-capacity consumer HDD, they had to focus on highly efficient and lower failure rate enterprise level storage, which is not so practical for consumers in terms of cost effectiveness. I guess we wont see much growth in the capacity aspect like we used to see.
Anyways hope something will change soon. For now 12 TB ironwolf is cheaper high capacity option for you.
Keep up with the good work.

Cheers.

Seems the focus is also on SDD these days, but a few tb is still very expensive.
I honestly don't know if it's also a technical roof they hit.

And for some reason internal drives are also more expensive, i don't like the way dust can build up in them and no way to open the case without breaking it, to clean it, but right now i am using these, still expensive but a bit cheaper. ;)

You should turn on XMP :D

Yeah what i was about to do, but i watched a video and on ASUS it could be called DOCP or is that something entirely different?
I could overclock a lot (cpu too) but am so afraid i'd screw up something (and in the BIOS there are like a gazillion options), didn't know it was this bad though.

My pc was busy unpacking, why i probably got the SSD needs a sata 3 cable thing, now it seems in the green area.
https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/29500479 expected more that the ram would be better, well time to dig in my bios.

Happy Cake day. ;)

Weird - bloody companies calling the same things different names for marketing reasons! Actually I did a search and its because ASUS would have to apparently pay Intel for XMP apparently

Thanks :)

Well then it's even weirder on my motherboard (ASUS Hero Maximus X) it was called XMP actually. :)

Things look better now (and to think i been running it like it was for 2 years).

i have the same problem.. both of my ssds show running way below average. they still are mush faster than a hdd and my pc boots in literally under one minute, so i have no reason to really complain. i'm pretty sure the problem lies with my old-ass mobo. i wanna replace it, but that would mean buying a new cpu and ram. i don't really wanna dump that much in my computer when i'm already happy with what i have.

Well what made it disappear for me (see later tests) is don't have things downloading/unpacking in the background, seems obvious, but maybe you forgot about that too?

Atleast you aren't in the red, think this site is quickly to judge (looking at my hdd's) to pass something of as old, even because i got some "slow" hdd's it makes my workstation score also less, while they really aren't bothersome.

i wish that were my issue, but i've ran this benchmark periodically over the last couple years (the link i posted was actually from may 17) and keep receiving low scores for my ssds. the mobo is the only thing i can think of as the drives themselves are samsung evos which everyone seems to love. i even made sure that i have them plugged in to a sata 3.0 port with a sata 3.0 cable, per their suggestion. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

not bad but why that ssd? was it on sale or something? here it's crazy expensive for the capacity.
i've got one crucial mx200 250gb for windows and one crucial mx500 1tb for steam. plus two wd red spinning drives.

also i'm still rocking a 4770k with 16gb 1600mhz ram. internet high five!

Ye it was also a bit pricey here but I wanted an SSD with "MLC", I don't really know if it will make a difference in the long run but one can hope...

I couldn't believe the difference in finally using an SSD over my old WD Black HDD. I upgraded to a new PC end of last year was my first time in having SSD's.
I won't post my benchmark but it says UFOx3

Nice one, and a good rig overall considering you've had that PC for a while.

https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/29499238

I've got to upgrade my GPU - I'll probably get a new one at the end of the month, and it won't be an AMD one this time. No way.

Surprisingly my 1600X is holding up okay - I bought it as soon as it was released so I've had it for about 3 years now.

That's some very fantastic scores! Might I ask just out of curiosity, was buying a 4th gen processor a lot cheaper than getting a new one? or was it because they aren't available or maybe you didn't want to upgrade the motherboard?.

here's my build: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/22461937
Only thing I'm proud of is my GPU score lol

Do you Overclock the 4670K? There's a wicked bottleneck between that and the 1060 6gb

Nice! if the heat becomes too much of a problem you should look into undervolting. That's what I had to do with my laptop because it was getting way too hot! Even on Chrome!

Congrats.

My PC is about 7 years old as well, but I did get an SSD when I built it. At the time, it was $150 just for 128GB..

I'm really in need of a whole new build, since everything is getting a bit too old now, and my 1GB 650 Ti (which was supposed to be temporary) is pretty awful. =P
