All of you people with zero giveaways need to step it up. Here I am a guy with 0 income and i'm almost level 2........ What's your excuse?

So yeah there is a little something more than just a plain old rant. However I wanted to stir the pot just a bit so that maybe just maybe I could get some people in here for this crappy game :)

http://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/eXT40/sacraboar

Also I really don't care one way or another. I personally think if you join a community you should give something back after so much is given. Lets say you have a field of rice if you keep taking and taking and you never once turn around and put one or two seed back into your field you'll eventually run out of rice. Maybe just maybe one of those leechers might see this and start contributing and become a part of the community who knows. Now come on bump this thing there are more coming!

I literally have no income. Yet I managed to do my first few giveaways by selling steam cards. The others are all through another website where you look at ads and get games for doing so. Like I said I'm almost level 2 and it makes me sad that there are people that have won like 300 giveaways and have given nothing back.

For tremor games I'd recommend idling and trade cards. You can usually trade for a bundle game every 100-400 coins (each card if usually 50 coins)

I wasn't gonna say anything but now I cant help it. That may be true I wont deny that but it only works if you live in a nice allowed-non-restricted region. I don't, I'm from Argentina, sure you've heard of it, and there's ZERO offers/surveys/videos/games to play, tasks, hum, it used to be, but now they don't work or don't pay anymore. You know what is the only friggin' thing working? login in daily for 5 coins. Yeah, calculate how many days/months you have to log in to get a single crappy game, and also that game is prob a bundle, so SG wont give you cv to levelup. Yes, you can technically still give something away, you can trade a game with cards, sell them for 10 cents and rinse and repeat, maybe one day if you're strong willed you'd have something to giveaway here.
Also, restrictions apply for me too, if I buy something from steam that is, so only those in SouthAmerica would likely to be able to grab it.

You'll notice I did gave away stuff before and I'm half way to lv3. Kinda stopped when the restriction hit the fan. I'm unemployed as well, but I don't want to complain or justify; I'd love to give away just because it feels good!
Those few who know me know how I am, those I've gifted stuff outside SG, even AAA titles tho outdated :P like GTA San Andreas, 2 times Nuclear Throne, etc
Tbh, I'm a bit let down by the rumour(?) that SG takes CV from you, so you have to keep on giving more and more just to stay afloat. May sound selfish, granted, but here it isn't easy to buy stuff not even for myself let alone to give away. I won't offtopic no more, but google 1 arg peso = usd dollar and you may get the picture.
I wont mention the other giveaway sites, I've given in those too, same or even less resutls than here.
If you want to give away, bundles and sales are great, but if you want to LV here then it's another story.

Just a lil comment about bitcoins and gambling, I've tried those too, let none say I didn't tried every possible way, aside try getting a job, here, nowadays, easier said than done.

Thanks for reading, hope you know this isn't personal, just felt I should share my 2 cents..

It's sad to know about that... I'm from Brazil, just at your side, and I'm able to make a lot of coins in TG.

Got a lot of games there, and I'm not talking about bad/cheap games, I'm talking about games like "Borderlands 2 GOTY", "Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor GOTY" and "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Legendary Edition". Obviously needed to "work" a lot to get them, but you got the point. I was also able to reach CL 3 giving away games I got there.

Don't know why there are those restrictions in Argentina.

Hope you find a way to be able to get more games.

You also can't do jacksh!t from hungary as well, play games / login, or play with the "download this app" crap. Though already saved up for a Longest Journey a few months ago - luckily I'm not reliant on that site - it would be quite a hassle to get more than like a dozen points each day.

Permalink

but how on earth did you managed to do that? right now there's red bold letters on top that specifically says there are no stuff for Brazil.

There was a time, for Argentina, Brazil, Venezuela, Colombia, maybe Hungary too, idk, that there were no restrictions. What changed? someone or a group of a$$holes abused the system, exploited it or something, getting thousands of coins way too easy. Think it was the flash gaming part. Naturally, TG instead of investigating and patching the bug/exploit, restricted the whole dang regions, multiple countries.
Whomever that managed to register before this, retained full access to videos, games, offers, etc, but the new ones didn't.

So yeah, it seems I have a talent to find the pointy end, sharp and poisonous too! XD

This thing on red letters is just for offers ABOVE 1000 coins as reward. I can do offers with lower rewards with no problems.

Most of what I do are tasks that gives between 50 and 150 coins. Sometimes appears something that pays more, like surveys.

My account is just 4 months old and I see no difference in the things that are available to me... Not sure why or when those restrictions started.

well it depends, I'm not too confortable with referrals, you also need them to continue to do it, and it always seems like you're screwing someone with that. Plus not everyone is grateful and used to "pay you back" your help by being your referral..

About selling Trading Cards, access to the Community Market is locked until you complete a purchase on Steam. About watching ads and the like, I know by experience that often these "offers" are not available in all places. Not saying that people shouldn't give something back, but it is wrong to employ absolutes, so I call devil's advocate as needed.

I don't think you understood my comment. For the first year and a half I wasn't able to activate the market or buy anything directly from steam because I didn't own a credit card, and that pretty much closes almost all ways of acquiring games, since even other ways of paying require a credit card to use, for example Paypal. I get it there are other ways but some of those get blocked in some countries.
So even though I know what you mean and I also don't like seeing members with 300 games won and no contributions, sometimes they just can't buy stuff, and I get that.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That makes sense. I didn't have a Credit/Debit card either for the longest time and getting games to giveaway or get for myself came mostly from Tremor games, but when the offers started drying up for me and I got my Debit Card I started getting bundle games. It was around that time that I was able to join SG. For the first 3 months I didn't win anything nor give anything away and then I decided to start giving games to people on SG over time though I decided to put my Giveaways to have a level requirement as I know there are those people who are unfortunate enough to not be able to buy games, but when my friend told me about the possibility of bots or people using scripts to enter GA's then I started putting that level requirement there. When I read OP's post I automatically assumed he was talking about the people who have won a bunch of games, but never gave anything back and I didn't bother thinking of the other explanation. (The one you listed here).

P.S. Sorry for the long message.

Apart from trading (which also takes time) the other ones aren't viable unless you have a lot of free time. I once spent a month to get 1 dollar of bitcoins. And Tremor Games it's blocked in A LOT of countries, not to mention is also very time consuming and you don't get that much for the amount of time you spent. It just isn't worth it unless you want a crappy/bundle game for a lot of effort. It's like asking someone to donate an organ to be able to buy games and give them away (Terrible comparison, I know, but you get my point).

Hello NIGHTSWALLOW22,
Thank you for contacting Steam Support.
Even though you may have attempted similar steps already, please re-test the issue now using the methods below:
Note: These processes will not affect your currently installed games. If using a PC

  • Please exit Steam, and navigate to the …\Steam\ directory (by default this is C:\Program Files\Steam - if you set a different installation directory, you will need to browse to it).
  • Delete all of the files in this folder except: Steam.exe and the \Steamapps\ and \Userdata\ folders -Restart your computer and test the issue again.
    If using a Mac:
-Exit Steam and go to the folder Users/[username]/Library/Application Support/Steam
-Delete all of the files in this folder except for SteamApps and Userdata.
-Restart your computer and test the issue again.
    For all operating systems:
-Ensure that you are not using any IP proxy or VPN software. These applications must be completely deactivated when purchasing >through Steam.

If you feel bad for being level 2 and seeing people not giving anything away maybe you should stop giving it away either.

There's no requirement to create giveaways. If someone doesn't like that, then he/she should just create level restricted giveaways and quit whining.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Level-based giveaways aren't a perfect solution, because the winner may have reached their level a long time ago and stopped giving. A whitelist-based giveaway is a better way to tell the winner is at least someone you like for whatever reason (good post in the forum, good ratio etc).

Even then, I don't really penalize someone for not giving away something recently. I'm no less grateful for the things they've given away in the past, simply because it happened a while ago. Although, if they haven't given anything away in years, but are still entering and winning giveaways, it would certainly make me curious.

I'm pretty sure though not 110%, since I didn't create this discussion that this was by no means the focus of the thread. What OP simply meant is that there are people who've won a lot and been here for the longest of times and have never bothered to contribute to the community in any way that is not limited to gifting.

I don't want to take a peek at your private life, judge anyone's rate or discriminate them for such things. I'm sorry if you've experienced people here that are like that there are some.

I guess some people are just so capable of giving, they sometimes forget that's not a luxury of the generous, but A luxury of the wealthy.

Sorry for the long reply.

Exactly. There is more than one way to contribute, and people play blind about it.

Forgetfulness is a human mistake.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I kind of find it funny how some people say contribute in the forums (which by all means I think the forums are an awesome place so people shouldn't stay away from it). While others lurk the forums and from people that post that they don't agree with/find they have low CL/unbalanced win ratio etc etc, then they blacklist the person.

It sends some mixed messages for those that want to contribute to the forums at the very least - I know I don't have the best ratio so it's not too surprising when I see myself on someone's blacklist but I also can tell one of the reasons I get blacklisted is because people spot me random only forums and the such, which is fine, it won't stop me from posting. I just find it amusing that all the people with incredibly bad ratios (worse than mine) that don't post on the forums usually don't get caught.

Again though, to each his own how he/she uses their blacklist but just something I find a bit funny. Anyways, I get what you mean but I also agree with ruigomes at the same time.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I completely understand what you're saying. I read in one thread (I wander too much around here, so I don't recall if it's this very one or another) someone talking about how there are elitists here. People who give a lot and have amazingly good ratios but don't do it only if at all for the joy of giving, but of bashing those who do not. I've seen those, and they're honestly everywhere (just like the lurkers who downright don't give anything in return for theirs year-old 300/0 bad ratios).

It's unbalanced.

As much as I've come to like this community (and I'm proud to announce my whitelist is ever growing) I feel sad for having 1 person in my blacklist. Because I wonder, if this list drifts people away so much, why does it even exist? But of course, it dawns on us all at one point: some people deserve to be in them, whilst others don't even dream that they are (and with reasons not to think so).

So I feel you. Although I don't even know if I'm in some elitists blacklist, or some ignorant's worse thoughts, I understand (perhaps only outside of these forums) the sheer bother that it is to be tagged as bad when the people who do it don't even know why you are who you are.

If you have a bad ratio, I'm not blacklisting you because of that. I blacklist people who are jerks.

And, if it makes you feel any better, you've just gotten yourself into my whitelist (it will come in handy soon)

Cheers and sorry for long response.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No worry on the long response, mine wasn't too short anyhow. I completely agree with you, I don't have anyone on my blacklist right now just because I haven't seen anything specifically that made me want to blacklist someone. I also don't have anyone on my whitelist because most of the time I'm doing private forum/puzzle giveaways or just public ones.

However, there are a few times thinking back I definitely would have added people to my blacklist because they were completely rude or even racist and hateful for no reason at all, which is I think the same as your reason for those who are jerks. I don't really expect people to have the greatest ratios since this is a giveaway site after all but I do think it is slightly sad when they have near 50+ wins and no giveaways, especially when I look at the games they've won and they've put near no time in any of them (or if they put little time, that's fine if it's a short game).

I think you get what I mean, but thank you for reading what I wrote and responding, also thanks for the whitelist :3

Because this is a charity site. They are part of the community to participate in community activities and be recipients of charity. There is no obligation to contribute whatsoever and I would argue that it is even fully within their ethical boundaries to be noncontributory. Contributions are beneficial and preferable, but neither translate into punishing those who do not. You punish for violations, not for differences in equally lawful conduct.

I'm fine with people not being able to give much, but anyone who enters for free games, has internet, and has a computer on which to play the won games, can afford to give away a single bundled game. What does the count of giveaways say about? What does the value of $ say? Nothing! People always look at a profil and only watch the top right corner. But at least if you have given away 100 bundled games which you bought for 15$, you have a value from about 1200$ with 100 giveaways. I have given away 2 giveaways with an amount of nearly 150$. If you think people should give away more stuff its ok. But I dont think we need more people who are giving away bundled or free games.

I have also a lot of gifts in my inventory, but I wont give them away here because if they were bundled once, I dont get a fair value. Other sites make a diffrence between steam gifts and steam keys. Steamgifts neither...

But you could potentially mark something as a Steam gift, while in actuality it is just a key that you are e-mailing or friending the winner to give, there are also other ways to get keys that aren't through bundles, such as the Humble Bundle Store or Green Man Gaming. Another thing is that if the winner doesn't report it as a key when it should have been a gift, you can cheat the system.

Why does it frustrate you that some people don't give away games? Actually giving away games is not a requirement to join the community.

I just don't understand why this frustrates you. People give away games because of reasons, and people don't give away games because of reasons.

He's allowed to be frustrated and the people unable to give away 1 game are allowed to have their reasons for being selfish. Human beings have their own standards and morality code. I don't expect anything from anyone here, but I find it inconceivable to accept gifts and never feel the need to return the favor. That's how I am wired personally, however, from a purely objective standpoint no one is required to give anything here.

Of course you're allowed to be frustrated, but that wasn't the question. The question is why would you allow yourself to be frustrated over other people's actions? I find it .. childish, or immature, whichever way you want to take it.

Yeah. That edit clears the fact that you're frustrated by others. Maybe you shouldn't be looking at SG as a community of givers, because giving isn't a requirement to join. Maybe you should look at it as a community of gamers coming from different backgrounds.

That'll blow off some steam.

If your standards of morality include shaming people for being recipients of charity, then perhaps you should reconsider your ethical code.

Everyone has different beliefs, desires and code. I didn't make this thread, nor would I shame anyone publicly. I don't blacklist anyone for anything ratio related either. I stated my opinion like everyone in this thread, but no I won't reconsider my ethical code and I won't impose my personal beliefs on anyone else. I'm here to give and that's all :)

It's not required to give games. Not moralizing however, should be. Even so, I have never worked a day in my life but I've given away over 800 games. Sure, mostly bundle games though.

I know it isn't the best, but at least it is something. And surviving off a $830 a month budget till the VA gets done trying to leave me for dead or homeless (Doctors on my side, compensation department is fighting them at this point), about the best I can do short of throwing up short games from the Tremor website.

Got hurt March of 2012 myself thanks to one doctor who didn't want to do his job and misdiagnosed me and then lied on the paperwork so no one would check behind him.Wasn't till my leg started getting hard to move and going limp that they finally check at which point it was too late and the damage was done.

Going the Lawyer route at this point as even with the VA's own doctors on my side, they are fighting me. Getting a lawyer was literally, doctors orders.

Comment has been collapsed.

As someone with a parent who has been a VA employee for years, I just want to say Good Luck and I wish you the best.

The worst part about the VA is that it is still a government ran operation. There is so much red tape and bureaucracy going on there, which yes you do find at any private care facility, however some of the things that the VA does just blow my mind. Especially when considering those who served before Operation Desert Storm.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Trust me, I know. At this point, I have one of the VA's own doctors on my side.

They have told me that I will never be able to hold down a job again and I will be in pain with my right leg being dead weight hard to move till the day I die. The compensation department tried to do me so dirty they actually had the doctor studdering when I let him read it. And the civilian surgeon they sent me to said I might need a lawyer after their 2nd attempt at trying to ignore my MRI in favor of an X-Ray to claim lack of evidence.

At 50% so far, they already have me service connected and all, they just have to listen to their doctors at this point. They actually tried to discard part of my doctors paperwork claiming they didn't count because the way the doctor phrased it.

The government only cares about you when you do for them. Need something from 'em? They tuck you away like so much paperwork, and wait for you to die. I hate it to no end.

Oh, wow. I wish both you and Fugus the best of luck with that.
My mom had been working on getting her disability for years, and almost died while waiting. That's how bad her health was. But thankfully she has it now. Been doing a whole lot better, too. Sucks that the system is so messed up.

Situations like this are why I only judge people as "leeches" when they come straight into things saying that they're only here for free games, and don't give a shit about the community or its members. There are so many other ways to contribute to Steam Gifts besides spending money on games to gift out. Like this conversation, for example. The latter gives far more quality and personality to this site. If it wasn't for this, I probably wouldn't be here, free games be damned. I could have just bought myself whatever I wanted with the money that I spent on gifts.

Cheers! c[_]

The thing is, if you GA first and reach decent levels, you'll more than double your chances to win (at level 2+, average entries required to win stuff is below 400). So your 'strategy' might be detrimental to yourself. At level 0, even leechers basically punish themselves with horrible odds (compared to gifting crap and reach at least level 1).

  1. Gifting away if I feel like it.
  2. Add +1 contributor requirement. Raise it up if any of them doesn't know how to claim the gift (Starting with lv1 and now currently at lv4).
  3. Don't bother with how other people participate in Sg.
  4. Don't bother checking any winners, whether the gift is activated or not (imo all gifts are not mine right after I create a giveaway.).
  5. Don't bother checking any winners, whether they're gifting anything or not (Their choices and they're not forced to).
  6. Don't bother .. lot.

Tl:dr Me living a happy life.

I use this site to giveaway games I do not need (or have them already), i used to not care who will take them. But then I find out that some of us are robots and added +1, then i realized that lvl 1 is achievable for almost no contribution and doesn't keep me safe from regifters and people who use free games to create GAs.

So now i'm using +2 because of that.
And now i see new problem - about 10% of entries are from accounts with lvl 4-5 or higher with no public contribution - only group GAs for less than 10 people (sometimes less than 20) and all their winners are repeating. Imho its dishonest and i find them as worse than people with no contribution.
